  • Stack?

    • I think the stack would require westpac card and getting the super swap $100 with $10 back then using as part payment on eBay with remaining as westpac payment for essentially 30% Cashback

  • +1

Will you receive 10% Westpac cashback if you use a discount coupon?

    • +5

I would like to know the answer as well. For large purchases, the use of coupon code yields a far greater saving than the measley $20 cap.

PS: Your avatar is quite disturbing to look at. :P

    • +3

Yes, as the upsized cashback will track at 1% if a coupon is used, which will also activate the Westpac at 10% bonus too

      @DoctorCalculon FYI

      • +4

        Thanks, BG.

GYB should have officially left you in charge during his annual leave.
$5 cashback for every comment you answer. :-)

      • @BargainsGrabber are you sure if using coupon other than 1%, it will also activate the Westpac at 10% bonus? I saw via the Westpac lounge ebay promo it also has the same condition 1% if a coupon is used.

        • Where are you seeing that t&c?
This is what I’m seeing via the ShopBack app: this and this

          • @BargainsGrabber: When I click on shop now on the 2nd image you linked, it brings me to this with the conditions.

            • @Bargain321: Yeh there’s two separate so long as if you use a coupon it’ll track at 1% + Westpac 10%

  • +2

What's Westpac getting out of all of this? Did the marketing team decide to ditch their TV ad buys and just give it to people directly $15 at a time?

    • +1

They bought a chunk of SB I heard

    • I guess, they get what AmEx gets from their cashback offers, e.g. they encourage you to spend more money and also get stats about what people buy.

      • +3

they get you to open an account in the first place then lazy tax you for life

    • they are keeping up with (copying) their main competitor, ANZ with cash rewards. Both cashback co's produce relatively peanuts, by bank standards of profit, but they do it just in case it becomes big; in other words, FOMO.

    • Westpac is an investor in Shopback.

  • Someone remind me.. Is it that ebay tracks westpac even if $0.01 is paid on the card, they pay 10% on the total?

      • +2

Thanks, thought so. Time to stack with the super swap! Just so long as I'm careful not to redeem too much of the super swap that the Westpac card doesn't get used

      • While gifts cards are eligible, what about voucher / coupon codes like the eBay plus black Friday $25 voucher (Min spend $150)?

        • +1

10% Cashback without Coupon ($20 Cap), 1% Cashback with Coupon

          They’d be categorised as coupons

          • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Thanks! And if we do not use a gift card / coupon, we will receive the standard shopback 10% Cashback off total price, with an additional Westpac 10% Cashback off total price. Meaning 20% discount in total?

            • @chillipaste: Using a gift card won’t change the upsize cashback rate afaik :)

              So in summary:

              • 10% cashback without using coupon + 10% Westpac bonus
              • 1% cashback with coupon used + 10% Westpac bonus
              • @BargainsGrabber: So, to confirm: Using an ebay gift card for payment won't reduce the "total" amount from which the 10% Shopback cashback will be calculated? (I'm not using any Westpac card.)

                • @dlee: It shouldn’t, unless ShopBack has changed it recently but using eBay gift cards will still get the full 10% cashback if no coupon code is used

                • @dlee: Only for Westpac you have to have at least partially paid for by the Westpac card, otherwise usual rules apply. So yes

  • Great timing, was planning on buying something from eBay!

  • This sounds like it could be a winning stacker deal as I was thinking of buying a $3k item on eBay which happens to have a 10% off coupon.

    • +3

There's also a bonus $10 challenge for $350 spend for eBay just so you know.

      • +1

Just got hit with the max $1500 GCs per transaction limit :(

    • There's a $40 cap total so max spend is $400 for 10% savings (probably less if you do that maths that I can't be bothered doing before 7am on a Saturday)

You're not getting 20% off $3k lol. Also you'd want to be real sure that gift cards are accepted.

      • +2

So the item was a Canon Eos R7 camera with 18-150mm lens which I ended up getting 3% off for $1500 gift cards ($45), $20 from Shopback 1% cap because using coupon and item was $2500 less 12% eBay plus promo (good thing I signed up since it paid for itself), $20 from westpac Shopback cap, and $10 from the spend $350 Shopback challenge for eBay. So all up $95 in additional rebates to the reduction from $2500 down to $2200.

I didn’t count the $10 credit from the super swap gift card since I couldn’t use more than $1500 :(

        • Great work!

          • +1

@King Steuart: Hopefully it all tracked ok. Made this painful westpac credit card sign up process worth it if so!

            • @jace88: All tracked :)

But oddly my other purchase only tracked the 1%. Not the westpac bonus. Must be one per account.

    • Wait. If you use the item's 10% off coupon, won't that mean that Shopback will give you only 1% cashback?

      • Yes but if item is $2k+ then it’ll hit the $20 cap anyway.

  • So spending 200 (no coupon + westpac) would net 20+20 = 40 cb? Or capped at 20

    • If I'm not mistaken, if you're paying with westpac, it's capped at $40 per transaction ($20 standard + $20 westpac). $20 cap is only for those not paying with westpac.

    • I'd like a confirmation on this! This seems like the best deal, to not use any gift cards and get 20% Cashback off $200 Max spend

      • Gift cards are OK for partial payment (if using Westpac and wanting the full benefit), it’s coupon codes that don’t attract the upsized 10% cashback.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm this is for any item on eBay, or is it restricted as per categories?

  • -1

Does a gift card count as a coupon code? For example, with purchases where payment is with gift card (say $190) and Westpac card ($10). Will i receive 20% cashback on the whole $200, or 1% for $200 (or even 1% of $10)… and 10% bonus westpac on $200? (I understand I get the 10% westpac bonus cashback as long as I use a relevant card for a portion, but just trying to confirm if I can use a gift card and still get the base 10% on all)

    • I’ve already linked to a comment from the store rep above.

      • +2

Thanks. I understand your comment that using a westpac card for partial amount triggers the westpac 10% bonus cashback on the whole amount. I am asking about the upsized 10% cashback (not associated with westpac) if you use a gift card. (eg some retailers will only pay the base cashback on the partial amount not paid with a gift card…or at the lower rate/not upsized)

        • +1

eBay and Amazon are the 2 retailers that are safe to use gift cards to still get the full cashback rate

  • Amazon is so much cheaper for the MX500 2TB @ $199. best I could find on ebay is $192 after the extra $22 cashback.

  • Just bought something total of around $500 after using a coupon. Paid almost entirely by gift cards, and the remainder (about $1.40) with my westpac card. Cashback got tracked as "Westpac bonus Cashback - ebay Australia", cashback amount is only $0.96. This is neither 1% of the amount (should be around $5?) nor is it the $20 capped westpac bonus cashback). I was thinking I was getting around $5 + $20 bonus, but instead all that has been tracked is $0.96. Did I calculate wrong or is the cashback amount correct? Thanks

    • From my last purchase experience, I think the Westpac bonus doesn't get notifications immediately (except for gift card purchase from shopback), I get notifications in about after 7 days. Your purchase is tracked, that is a good sign.

      • The $20 bonus has been tracked, but the standard cashback is still $0.96 only instead of the actual 1% it should be, ~$5. And I also see in my rewards that the $10 for spending $350 is marked as completed, but in the reward list, it is only listed as $5. The amounts are all incorrect. What's going on?

  • -1

What happens if you only use gift cards to pay?

    • you can’t pay with a westpac card

  • +1

Thanks OP, copped this overpriced quartz toy watch

Got this awesome Casio ana-digi which was almost exactly $200 before this deal, but felt the need to buy something.

Dumb deal U less buying something I bought yesterday without coupon for 100..!

Most eBay item has multiple coupons running 17% deal at the moment.

    • +1

      Most?

    • Most eBay item has multiple coupons running 17% deal at the moment.

And yet you still can get the 1% cashback + 10% Westpac bonus

      Not a dumb deal?

  • So I get 10% back if I am not a Westpac customer?

    • +2

Non Westpac customers will get the 10% cashback if a coupon is not used, 1% if a coupon is used

  • Nice. Had some things to buy during the week but held off hoping a weekend deal would pop up!!

  • Does this work if I add multiple items to the cart and pay in one go? Or will it track only if I buy one item at a time?

    • You can buy multiple items at a time just keep in mind the $20 cap, depending on how much you’re spending.

  • +1

Is it me or does ebay not show up on the chrome extension anymore? I can't activate shopback?

    • +1

Doesn't work on firefox either; you gotta click through the shopback site to get it tracking

  • Purchased but no tracking

    • +1

It can take up to 7 days to track as mentioned in the description but usually takes the next day or two for tracking based on my experience

      • My experience was that, if not tracked immediately, will never be tracked after that. Let's see.

        • Westpac deal took 24 h + for me last time then tracked full bonus rate, patience was challenging

  • Should rename Shopback to Westpac.

    • -1

      nah

    • I know it’s attempt at humour but it doesn’t make sense :/

      Westbac

  • Does anyone know what happens if the ebay purchase is in USD?

    • +1

Your mileage might vary. Works sometimes, others it's a complete waste of time and suspends the gift cards as well as incurs foreign exchange fees on the credit card. Typically the order status will hang in "still processing" for several hours after the transaction, only to then be cancelled by eBay without reason, looking like this https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/25320/101606/screensho…

You miss the promotion period and gift cards get suspended for a few days. eBay will claim all sorts of excuses such as their bank won't release the gift card balance, or even blame your credit card. In trying all of these, the only thing that's consistent is that orders are only cancelled during a cashback promotional period, which appears to be managing loss mitigation. This issue has been reported several times previously by many users, however gets lost amongst the allure of the deal.

Screen shot of today's transaction stuck in pending. Will update new screen shot later when status changes https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/25320/101604/screensho…

  • Has anyone successfully used the westpac lounge with the digital card offered with the 'Choice' account? It doesn't seem to be on the list of cards included in the promotion, but in a previous thread that's the one someone was suggesting would be easiest to get …

    • Can confirm previously, it works for me even though I entered my physical card details into shopback. The only difference is that the digital card changes the CVC every 24 hours, but the number and expiry is still the same

    • It lists Westpac debit Mastercard as eligible which is what you get with the choice account, so I sure hope it’s eligible

  • +1

So it's per transaction on ebay 10% and per member on westpac 10%?

It's a shame that multiple cardholders on westpac cards get the same card number as each other. I'm sure my wife needs some lego :p

  • Just bought something worth $44, $1.99 with Westpac and the rest with gift card. No coupon code used.

Immediately got a tracked notification for Westpac bonus cashback $0.45 which is not 10%.

I'm assuming the correct amount will track in the coming days, I hope.

    • Is it the right transaction or is it an old purchase that suddenly became redeemable? I know mine hasn't even tracked yet so you may be looking at the wrong thing?

      • It says purchased at Westpac bonus Cashback - ebay Australia on 11 February 2023. It's just saying tracked but I do hope it's an error on the amount.

    • Afaik eBay takes a day or two to track so I doubt your Westpac notification relates to your recent eBay transaction

      • I hope so, I really hate having to follow up on these things. I don't really keep checking on them.

  • When does this event finish? What time today?

  • -2

I did not get the Westpac portion of my cashback from the Amazon gift cards deal on 31 January. The straight discount has been registered and is confirmed. but nothing about Westpac cashback. Previous Westpac deals have been paid, so there is no issue with my card.

When I attempt to report the missing cashback the system just tells me it is inelligible and there is no way to progress with the claim. The Chat is offline at present, and even then is just a robot with no ability to go outside the script.

I am negging this deal because there is no obvious way to resolve issues like this.

    • There’s no mentioned of any Westpac bonus for the Amazon gift card deal that was posted on 31 Jan

6% Cashback on $50 & $100 Amazon Gift Cards (3 Limit Per Transaction) @ ShopBack (App Required)

It was just a straight 6% cashback only

Thanks for the neg when you didn’t read the deal posted correctly. I’ll return the favour

      • -1

Whoops you are right. I have been looking to see how to remove the Neg but not found so far. The comment about inability to progress with a claim still stands.

        • Votes tab underneath the title and click on revoke or the little red symbol next to your username

        • +1

The comment about inability to progress with a claim still stands

What’s there to progress when there’s nothing to claim? Your gift card cashback at 6% was tracked and confirmed

There’s also the store rep @gotyourback on OzBargain which ppl reach out to if there are any problems like these

          • @BargainsGrabber: So if there HAD been a Westpac bonus that the system did not pay, there would be no way to progress the claim. While the store rep may be on here (I did not know the name), what does someone not on Ozbargain do? There should be a Contact Us to be used as a last resort ….. as there is for the other well known cash back organisation.

            • @Dabbler68: Hey there mate, apologies for the delayed reply, I've been taking some time off recently and am back in today to help clarify here. Whilst I am always happy to help out here and will reply via DM as soon as humanly possible, outside of myself, we have a customer service team who are available to assist, if you engage our Chat function on our website ("Chat with us" at the bottom of our website, or via the question mark in the corner of the website) Where there is an option to select the Westpac Lounge and follow the prompts to leave your info for the team to get back to you. Alternatively, you can email the team via [email protected] if you'd prefer, the team will get back to you as soon as they're able.
