  • Which one is better? MP600 GS or MP600 Core?

    • MP600 GS is HMB-based with TLC NAND, while MP600 Core is DRAM-based with QLC NAND, your pick.

      • Yeah, would you like dog poo on your chocolate cake, or would you like strawberries on your cow pat pie. Decisions….

  • Will pcie 4 nvme work with pcie 2 nvme slot? mobo has a second free slot, I know speed slows down, but I cant find much info if it would work 2 generations apart. Thanks.

It will work, but you will see a massive reduction in speed.

PCI-E 4.0 has a max throughput of roughly 1.9 GB per second per lane, while PCI-E 2.0 only gets about 0.5 GB per second per lane.

0.5 is still huge in the real world - jmo

      • Thanks. PCIe 2X4 gives 2GB/sec which is 3.5X Sata SSD. And in most scenarios, transfer is random read/write than continous and will fall in that 2GB/sec ball park range. So I dont think I will notice any difference as I dont work with large video files etc. I just wanted to know if it works. I dont want to buy a drive just to figure out it wont work lol.

The only thing I can offer is to test a NV2 Phison E21 version on my old B450 which has a PCIe gen 2 x4 slot. It should work, but if you are really concerned.
Just an FYI, with NV2 Phison E21 on PCIe gen 3 x4, its performance is a bit inferior to SN570 so it doesn't mean PCIe gen 4 x4 SSDs are better on slower interfaces.

This SSD uses better NAND flash chips than E21.

          • @netsurfer: Thanks for asking. I think I should be good. I ended up asking on tomshardware and got the same reply. The reason I want a gen4 is down the line I will be upgrading my mother board and I will then get full speeds. For now, I need an ssd as my mx500 2TB is running out and I need something in a months time. Worst case if it does not work, I will move my 970 Evo to second slot and put the new nvme into that primary nvme 3 slot.

Get a Pcie 3 in this case

Yes, it will work. If that PCIe 2.0 NVMe slot has access to x4 lanes, then it will transfer at up to 2 GB/s, still a very nice fast speed. I find that when copying from PCIe 4.0 to 4.0 (two separate 980 Pro drives), the sustained speed drops to below 2 GB/s anyway.

        Cool, thanks mate.
