This very much reads as spam

Who needs tie dye - just wash a bunch of my clothes together and I can get the same effect.

  • and if the item is something like a t-shirt, to be worn by a woman, don't get a young child to do this for you, unless you want to have two circles … guess where…
My mother could tell you how I know about this. (she was not the kind to wear the said shirt)

My business has done professional tie-dying and we tried these packs. Some colours wash out in the first wash, the other others fade fairly quickly. They don't prep the fabric so the colour does not stick as well. Proper tie-dying is done in 3 stages over days or even weeks. The first stage is soak in soda ash for hours or overnight and then drained to barely moist. Then the pure dye (watered to right ratio) is added directly, it's active for a long time and you can soak for days in a plastic bag in the sun. This really sets the colour. These kits, push 2 stages into one, the soda ash is in the dye. This means the fabric is not optimally ready to take on the dye AND when they are together it shortens the life of the dye hugely (I think 15 minutes or something like that from long aago memory). So even if you let these dyes sit for days in the fabric, the dye has gone off and wont stick. This means the 3rd satge cant work. So 3 stages become 1. Just be aware, you won't get the results of the photos in the marketing. Good bit of fun, however disappointment will follow if you expect it to hold.

    • Agree. If you want a kit i would recommend spending two or three times as much on a Jacquard kit. Very much worth it.

    • Hey, that's good information and I agree that soaking in soda ash overnight can give you a good result as well as leaving the dyed item in a plastic bag overnight for best results. I have used this tie-dye pack a few times and have dyed shirts, bandanas, sheets, and pillowcases and they are still looking the same as they did when they were first done ages ago. I even did a bandana for my dog which looks great. For me, these items are still keeping their colours and tie-dye patterns. I'd post some photos but can't see where I can do that here. It's a great activity for kids in the summer - supervised of course!

  • @Wanderoo what kind of dye is this?
