    good for Steam Deck?

    • +2

I bought based on the 'buy it now and work it out later' philosophy.

      • +4

        Speaking like a true ozbargainer.

        Buy now ragerts later.

    • Serious and curious question. For what exactly?

Like what exactly are you trying to achieve?

      • Connect Steam Deck to a computer monitor or TV probably. and having extra ports lets you use wired controllers, keyboard and mouse.

    • Also curious!

    • Says yes in the title and this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyThKVj7Ldo - ordered one too based on that.

  • Is Cable Creation a good brand?

    • +4

It's a good brand, I've had many of their products before. Not sure how good is this hub though!

      • Good brand, good cables, excellent customer service

The hub has a good layout - all the cables/ accessories are on 1 side

I had one, and it lasted approximately 9 months, they replaced it very quickly via their website

now that one is dead =(

    • I've been using their usb 3/LAN hub at work daily for the last year and it works flawlessly, for the price I paid it was worth it.

  • Not sure what the difference is to ones like this - which are everywhere: https://www.amazon.com.au/Docking-Station-Dongle-Ethernet-De…

2 positive ratings .vs. 1870 ratings, I guess.

      • My point was that the one I linked is a generic item which sells under many names for about the same price, that was just the first one I came across in the link.

If this comes on sale it would be ideal. Has both enough PD to charge and 3.2 usb ports to fully utilise an external SD

  • Does this work without installing drivers?

    • Yeah should do, I've never had to install drivers for a usb hub

      • I think for the older hubs/docks where it's primarily USB 2.0/3.0 (with USB-A interface) and uses DisplayLink technology for the display, those would require drivers. Windows already have the drivers so it's usually still 'plug-n-play' for Windows but macOS will require the user to manually install DisplayLink drivers.

With USB hubs/docks that's using the USB-C interface, good chance it doesn't use DisplayLink as it's probably also USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt and have enough throughput to handle display without having to use DisplayLink technology.

Though I might be wrong about the 'USB 3.1/Thunderbolt' technicality… this is all just based on my experience and a brief look at USB docks since marketing fluff makes it so damn difficult at times to compare different docks/hubs.

        • Yep

  • Does this one actually work? I've been looking for one for some time but most tend to have problems providing sufficient power among other issues.

    • 1800 positive reviews, safe to assumr it's not total garbage

    • I've used a few with MBPs and never had a problem. The hub consumes 8w power according to the listing so maybe that is causing your issue.

  • Can anyone suggest a USB-C Hub with PD which has multiple USB-C ports and USB-A ports? I have a Dell PC with enough ports to cover laptop, webcam and logitech receivers. Need a few more ports for charging/disks.

  • Bought a bunch of these for work, for much higher price. Can confirm they work well.

  • Pass .. no USB-C data ..

and who uses those data cards anymore? Lol

The 6 in 1 is better but higher price

    • No usb-c data? The hell is the point?

      • +2

I have usb-c to usb-c cables to connect devices and transfer data .. this hub cannot support this.

I have usb-c thumb drive .. this hub cannot support.

I chucked all my micro-USB devices about 6 years ago .. now I'm trying to move on from USB-A.

    • +2

SD cards? They're still common. Plenty of users - Photographers, GoPro, security cameras, Steam Deck, phones(though dropping off), other hand held gaming devices.

      • Must be behind the times .. haven't used one for 7 or 8 years .. guess because smartphone cameras are decent.

        • I find a SD card reader on a hub very useful. I keep a USB-C hub in my tech pouch(Use a TB4 dock at home). One of the primary reasons I have used it is for the SD card reader.

  • does it work with Chromecast w/ Google TV 4K Version?

    • +1

There's one review that mentions it which says that it doesn't. YMMV.

    • FYI: With the normal CCwGTV charger there is a power error. It does say on the hub "The power of attached PD adapter should be over 40W, otherwise it may not charge some of your devices through the hub" - so I tried with a 65W PD charger and it worked. Ethernet was successfully detected. Didn't try USB or Micro SD storage.

      • Same here. I got it worked with a PD charger (not the one from CC).

      • ah gotcha, my main need is expandable storage as the inbuilt storage is rubbish and can't install more than a few apps. any chance you can try and let me know?

        • +1

Yes, I tested it just now - can detect and read my USB drive!

  • Damn was looking at this at lunchtime but missed out…..

  • Anyone know of a usb-c hub that has 3 or more usb-c ports? They don't have to be full USB 3.2 gen speed but enough to give 45w charge, external SSD and a headphone dongle for my steam deck?

    • 3 usb-c ports would be amazing .. I have searched for a few hours the other week and couldn't find anything

      • I found this one when I was looking the other day but the negative reviews turned me off. The price also was a factor for an unknown brand.

      Also available from other retailers.

      • haha … just missing the power delivery, HDMI 4K, ethernet

      • Thanks for this 😁
I did find this one but unfortunately it does not support PD passthrough for charging.

        • It might be worth looking at docks(Thunderbolt of USB-C) though obviously more costly.

I have the WD22TB4, which according to Reddit, works with the Steam Deck. The dock has 2 TB4 ports on the back and a USB-C port on the front. I'll try it out myself in a few days when my Steam Deck arrives.

          • @ihfree: While this does look very nice, it is definitely way out of my budget.

Let me know how it goes out of curiosity though 🙂

            • +3

@drinkin-beer: Got the deck today and based on a very preliminary test works fine with the Steam Deck and one of the connected monitors(HDMI on dock) - keyboard, mouse, sound devices and webcam, all detected fine.

              • @ihfree: Did you try the ethernet port?

                • @videoman: I don't use ethernet so can't confirm that

                • @videoman: I just got mine today and I can confirm the ethernet port works on the steam deck. I did have to connect power to the USB C PD port for it to work though (even though I had nothing else plugged in to any of the other ports on the dock).

I am only getting 11.4MiB/s maximum speeds though. Is anyone else getting higher speeds? I am using a CAT6e ethernet cable and it says connection speed is "1 GBit/s".

              • @ihfree: Awesome! Thanks for the follow up. Enjoy your deck!
