  • Does anyone have experience dealing with Amazon for Warranty purposes for imported HDD?

  • Not familiar with all the different drives and SMR vs CMR - would this HDD be good to store movies/tv shows? if not what other drives should I be looking at? This will be going in my PC so it won't be running 24/7.

    • it will be all right.

    • I’m no expert either but red is probably a bit overkill. Can probably just use a WD Blue.

    • These are typically designed for NAS usage, if you have one.

    • +1

8TB Blues are around 200, and are CMR.

For anyone wondering about packaging, this is how mine were recently received.
    https://www.raminfotechdatarecovery.com/images/shipping/2.jp…

    Was pleasantly surprised.

    • You beat me to it.

    • -2

      That’s good right?

      • +2

        Better than an envelope.

      • +2

Yep. Securely held in place. Much better than an envelope or some bubble wrap in a box where it can bounce around.

    • Thanks for sharing!
When I ordered previously, 6 HDDs came with one sheet of paper. 2 HDDs had dents and 1 HDD was dead on arrival.

    • this is the standard oem packs i get, in the past (before 2019) amazon will pack these boxes inside their amazon branded boxes with bubble wrap.

now they just stick an address on those and ship it over.

  • Good price.

I've a six bay NAS loaded with these. No problems thus far. Sourced from both Amazon and Futu.

Amazon packaging was way better than Futu Online. The latter basically sent a naked drive in static bag and a padded envelope. Amazon sent it in a proper cardboard drive box.

  • WD40EFZX = CMR

    • +2

      which is GOOD for NAS

I love that this author is going to suddenly receive a bunch or royalties from ozbargainers buying his homoerotically named Christian book to save $2 😂

    • +1

Win win right? No better outcome.

  • Unrelated to the product but does anyone know how often camelx3 updates its' data?
If I click the camelx3 link above it shows the price as at 08/12/22.

    • In this case you need to look at the blue price graph for 3rd party new, as it's sold by Amazon Global Store. The green graph Amazon price tracking is for Amazon AU store only.

I keep overlooking that connection between Amazon AU and Amazon - thanks for reminding my fading memory.

  • tempted.. hmmm on my nas one drive is 1TB only, omg how quickly it gets filled up

  • Any good deals for larger capacity?

    • +1

12TB WD elements seems to be $299 still, but low stocks at officeworks/amazon

      • Thanks. Got 2 16tb red pro coming from the previous deal for the qnap nas also from previous deal. Chasing another 2 red plus drives on special, maybe should wait till the 2x16tb run out first.

  • this or the seagate for a home nas set up?

    • +2

both are fine any of them, if both are CMR
if not then pick one that CMR. brand doesnt matter.
you will find 100ppl say Sea is better today,
then tomorrow 100 others will say WD is better than Sea

      • just ordered 2, thanks

    • By Seagate I am assuming you mean IronWolf. WD Red Plus would be quieter than the IronWolf, which might be important depending on where you place your NAS at home.

  • I need 10tb to pair

  • +1

Can any one recommend an enclosure.
Was after a drive that could be left plugged into the USB port on a router 24/7.
Being a NAS drive I thought it may be more reliable then an average off the shelf external HDD

  • +1

These drives are pieces of shit. I've had 2 fail in 3 and 2 years of use.

  • I bought 5, thank you OP.

    • Received my drives today. The delivery guy just throw the box with hard drives on my porch and left without even knocking on the door… I hope all the drives are going to be healthy.

  • +1

bought. with the red handle. thanks
better than the book i can actually use the handle

  • and case recommended to make it portable for laptop storage at home please?

    thanks

  • Looks like this has gone up in price. I am seeing $128.20 base price now.

    • Back down to $118
