So I recently started trying bouldering and found out that most bouldering gyms pretty much all have similar first timer (at their gym) deals which is around the $20~25 mark for a full week of unlimited access & some form of shoe hire inclusion. So I'm working my way through them to find the one I like the most. So far these guys are slightly coming out ahead given the shoe inclusion is for the whole wk, its big and the routes are interesting.
Normal entry is around $20 per visit for a 10 visit pass, plus around $7 for shoe hire (It makes more sense to buy your own by then). Given part of the fun is the variety of routes and a lot of bouldering gyms are concentrated in the Inner West, it makes sense to take advantage of each gym's first timer deals in turn.
I find Blochaus to be the most 'fun'.
Nomad tends to be on the more technical and harder side (even for their beginner side of climbs).
9D has a lot of locations so there is some good variety of climbs to be had.
