Ideal for easy paces and marathon running. Has great reviews. I'm more of a fast sub-10km runner, so will pass, but great deal.

    • +3

Too heavy and slow for marathon running, but ok shoe for recovery short runs i.e. slower than 5:30/km

    • +2

Absolutely not in a category of a 20km or 42km shoe. You'd be looking at a superblast 2 at a minimum for training and a metaspeed for a marathon.

    • +3

      Respectfully withdrawn. Wrong shoe.

  • +1

Heavy and too clunky. Go the Novablast

    • -2

      Almost double the price though

      • $200 on asics website

      • You’re thinking of superblast maybe? Novas are ~$230

    • +3

Unsure why the recommendation to a shoe that's completely different feet type to the Kayano. The Kayano is a stability shoe whereas the novablast is neutral feet. You may risk injury if you switch to a different style

  • How are the width in these? I usually wear 9.5 Wide but it's so hard to find wide runners except New Balance.

    • +1

Standard width, I wear wide as well, stuck with boring colours and nearly always full price :(

      • Yeah, sad. I've only ever got a pair of wide from New Balance… The rest of my other running shoes, I give it a shot at half size up and hope it's wide enough that I don't get blisters.

    • +1

You can find 9.5 wide in these, but they are rarely discounted until next years range comes out. Just search gel kayano 2E at athletes foot or rebel and you'll see the wide (2E) range.

      • I experienced the same. Size & everything.
Stumbled across some in a Thai department store, and grabbed 2 pairs. They're like 4WD shoes, perfect for my feet & needs. I just can't afford or justify their normal price

    • +2

Check out Brooks, most their common models come in wide

    • I suggest checking out Brooks Ghost 16, in the wide or the extra-wide. They're my new favourite shoe, having come from ASICs (though I mainly use them for walking and light jogs, not serious running).

      • +1

I had some Brooks Trance back in the day, they were awesome. Not like the style of these massive cushioning/foam ones but felt very secure and great quality.

    • I bought these with no feedback from Ozbargain and they are really good. Friends & family who've tried them have also bought them and say they're good. Only issue is the glue holding the rubber sole on seems to fail after a few months of daily use on some pairs.

    • +9

These are highly rated in running communities for runners that needs a stability shoe or over pronation that could cause injuries. Not just OzB. They're not the fastest shoes, but they're great for all kinds of runners. There are feet of all sizes and shapes. I don't see why you have to criticise a pair of shoes that doesn't fit your needs. Your favourite pairs of runners might not fit someone else's feet and that's okay.

    • +3

      Your 5496th dumb comment 👏

    • Not for sikk lads. But normal people who run are welcome.

    • What do the fully sick eshay kids wear?
Maybe stick to tuned air, or some ASICS gel Quantums like your hero Spanian wears.

      • -2

LOL are you really giving me attitude and acting tough online?

        • Dunno you're telling the story?

Maybe just elaborate what's the choice go to for sik lads at least?

We'll know that summer fashion shoes and some running shoes but there's a quite a good overlap buddy.
I got some quantum 360s so I think they are good balance of both

          • @G-rig: Mate, anything looks better than the new kayanos with their goofy lower portion. May as well just get some Hookahs. Funnily enough, I've seen some sikk lads actually rocking the hokkas. I'll just rock some random nikes or whatever.

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Yeah that's fair haha. The crazy cushioning fad is a bit over the top, feel like you're walking on clouds but hardly that stable. Comfort over style is nice sometimes.

Ps wasn't having a go and don't mind watching Anios just seeing what options were out there. Air max 1, 90s, Peggys and Jordan lows are pretty good for general wear.

              • @G-rig: Bro there's heaps of shoes out there - I bought some random Nikes on here a few months back and been wearing tf outta them.

Kayanos peaked in 2017 or 2018 sometime IMO.

                • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Yeah all good one bought enough for a long time now. Nike Vomero 5 go pretty good for cheap everyday ones, got onto NB as well this year.

                  • @G-rig: Pretty sure they (vomero 5) are the new eshay shoes fr though

                    • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Culture kings sell them so probably ha. Just kind of 2000 running/dad shoes. Actually very comfy worth trying can get for under $130.

          • +1

@G-rig: Love my Quantums. Usually I jump on footlocker and grab whatever clearance model is in my size. Just got a black and gold pair for $99. A bit brighter than my taste, but I don't really care, shoes are shoes imo as long as they are comfortable enough.

  • I think this is really well priced for a very good shoe.

The Asics professional discount is 35% off.

    Revision is due July 2025.

I know people are bitching about trying a different model but the Kayano is well rounded. If you're light and fast, sure, go the Nimbus or Novablast. If you want more, go into their supershoes.

    • What do you mean by ASICS professional discount? I'm keen on the deal

      • +1

You have to be a health professional e.g Psysiotherpist

        • Any health professional? Not exactly physio and the like? Does anyone know?

    • Can anyone help me buy a shoe I desperately need?

  • I ended up going for the Nimbus after trying both on. Been very happy with them.

    • Yeah I have the Nibus 26, very good and nutral (the asics are more for people who pronate but either would be fine for me to be honest)

  • +1

Be a little careful with these. Lots of the data coming out now is that stability shoes are unnecessary and pronation is a normal part of human running form. Stability shoes can do more harm than good. You may be better off with the Nimbus (also on sale on cotd). Novablast even better, but not sure on sale.

PS, I say all this just from reading widely (and as a keen runner), not as an actual medical professional myself.

  • +1

Just an FYI with Catch.com.au, they won't provide refunds for change of mind returns.
You'll only get the choice of Exchange or Store Credit, and you'll have to pay for return shipping (even with OnePass).
Stitched myself up by buying 2 sizes, hoping I could return the pair that didn't fit.

  • -2

Original price is $229, not $279. Goofy design. They remind me of the On Cloud 5. Comfortable but not aesthetically pleasing.
