Just get something with Stainless Steel Burrs and dont regret having to buy another grinder after this one.

I recently bought this one, what are the issues with ceramic? Cracking?

      • +2

No issues at all, been using mine for over a year and its great! Stainless is an upgrade from ceramic but thats not to say ceramic is bad :)

      • +2

Ceramic is harder than coffee beans, so won't get damaged or worn down. Some enthusiasts think ceramic doesn't affect the flavour like metal will… but for most people the difference is non-existent.

I’ve had my handheld grinder for years and never had an issue with the ceramic burr. Been using it pretty much every day for the past 3-4 years

You don't know what your missing out on.
Steel burr grinds twice as fast and is far more consistent. So if your using it everyday like you said, it's worth the extra investment.

My kmart electric grinder for $15 has been working wonders for me

      • Hi! Which model would this be :)?

ozbagends My kmart electric grinder for $15 has been working wonders for me

That's what i thought at first but it is so inconsistent as it chops and not grinds
Bought a cheap electric grinder(Sunbeam Grindfresh) chalk and cheese the crema is miles ahead being ground

Jeez my bad for pointing out a cheaper alternative for people who aren't coffee perfectionists

If you are grinding coffee beans for a shot of espresso, you'll be grinding for a very long time to get through 22g of beans. Go powered if there is an option that gets down fine enough for espresso.

For all the DIYers at home, the 5-sided input shaft on this grinder works fits in my Ryobi 18v cordless drill. Chuck bites on fine, just gotta run it at about 50% speed as any faster tends to make grinder spin so fast it prevents beans from getting ground up.

I can make 12 cups of medium-grind (i make cold brew) in about 5min.

    • Haha that's what I ended up doing while waiting for a deal to come up on my Breville electric grinder.
Trying to grind enough for a large cold brew batch with this thing by hand was rough.

  • I used this for about a year before switching to an used 1zpresso pro on coffeesnob, that was such an improvement it really made me regret getting a ceramic grind set in the first place.

    • Also it could not grind fine enough for espresso on my rancilio Silvia, despite its claims. Even if it does, I would imagine it would be a pain in the ass to tune in your shot with it.
I used it to grind beans for pour over and it usually takes me at least 3 and a half minutes to grind 60g for medium grind size. Avoid this and get stainless steel any day of the week

Been using one of these for over a year now and love it. Great if you're only grinding for a cup or two
