    That is a good price.

  • +1

Bought for $699 a year ago. Excellent grinder, built like a tank.
The unit I received was damaged, and Coffeeteca was very nice and sent me replacement promptly. Very recommended.

    • They definitely seem well constructed, but mine stopped working after less than a year of light use.

      • +1

I’ve had two of these for 4 years and they’ve been great. Solid build, reasonably quiet, great performance. Never skipped a beat with daily use.

I’d recommend to get a good cleaning agent to help keep the burrs in good shape. I use this one(cafetto.com), which I purchase off eBay, and run some through after every couple of months or so. I’m surprised at the difference it makes in getting rid of built up old grinds.

        • +1

These grinders are so easy to open and clean that I've never even contemplated using a cleaning product.

Just don't over-tighten any of the screws.

  • This over the df54 ?

    • +2

      Pretty equal

    • +9

DF54 is probably a marginally better grinder, cheaper, and has more burr options if you want to upgrade in the future. But the after sales support and ability to find spare parts for any repairs in the future will be significantly better with the Eureka.

  • I just noticed this model seems to no have the adjustable portafilter holder which could be an issue depending on what portafilter you use and if you want to use a funnel.

    • +2

get a dosing cup like https://www.jetblackespresso.com.au/shop/p/rhino-coffee-gear…
One of the best additions we bought. Grind into it then put the basket on top and flip over. Reduced cleanup due to stray coffee grinds everywhere.
Btw the grinder is good. We have had one like this for about 6 years and still going strong and reasonably quiet.

    • Actually, the height of the portafilter holder on the Eureka Mignon Specialita can be adjusted, so I don’t think there would be an issue with fitting different portafilters or using a funnel.

As for the dosing cup, I took it a step further and purchased the Eureka Mignon Single Dose Kit (similar to this one(eastlinkespresso.com.au)). It’s been a great upgrade, and I haven’t looked back! I honestly don’t even remember where my original bean hopper is anymore. 😄

edit: My bad, just realized that this model is Silenzio, while I have Eureka Mignon Specialita 55, different model. Apologies…

      • +3

That kit looks really nice but how can they justify nearly $200 for it

      • I totally agree! Nearly $200 does seem steep. I didn’t pay that much myself - I bought mine a year ago from here(espressocoffeeshop.com) for EUR 73.16, including delivery. My 28Degrees card was charged A$129 at the time.

    • I've got a bottomless portafilter so i just removed the holder anyway.

  • +4

Got one for ~$520 back in 2022. Still going strong and makes 1-2 coffees a day. Highly recommend it - just 3d print the dial adjustors to get more precise settings.

    • Any recommendations on dial adjustors?

      • +3
        • did you get the single dosing hopper as well or just the dial ring? been looking for a dial ring and all I found were 3d printed Etsy ones so this looks good. how is the single dosing hopper if you got it?

          • -1

@fruitloafer: I didn't get the hopper just the dial. I'm lazy I tend to just grind a small batch that will last 2 or 3 days at a time.

          • @fruitloafer: Yeah I got a single dosing hopper as well - they're all pretty similar though from what I could tell.

        • Bought one thank you :), not that we need to adjust too often but at least this will take the guess work out.

    • +1

Oops, just realised mine is the Specialita.

      This is what i used

      https://www.printables.com/@ordnerino/collections/571691

      • +1

I printed this too and it's great. Much better adjustments and also better repeatability when changing from espresso grind to V60 grind and back.

  • This or Baratza Sette 270? (I heard Sette is quite loud but fast and ppl who use it swear by it). Use case: espresso single dose, currently have the Breville Duo and Pro Grinder

    • +3

I would get the Eureka or a DF64.

    • +2

The Eureka for sure if you're single dosing. The Sette is a good grinder, really fast, but it's loud, plasticy and gearbox failure isn't uncommon - mine failed after a couple of years and I upgraded to a Specialita.

      • +4

Specialita checking in. Fantastic grinder 2 years going strong

      • I didn't try to use my Eureka for single dosing, mostly because I've read a lot of reviews saying it isn't great for it so I didn't bother. This model in particular I don't think would be good for single dosing if you are switching back and forth between different beans as the adjuster isn't very precise.

      • +1

Yep. My mate had a Sette and it didn't last. We've both got Eureka's now and they're super solid. (Specialita for me and he has the larger version).

        I grabbed mine from here:
        https://www.espressocoffeeshop.com/en/coffee-grinders/55-660…

Basically $630 for the Specialita shipped from Italy.

        • I've had my silenzio for over 5 years, still going strong. For a single dose unit i would need to be modified to add a hopper pump as the in find the retention of the grinder can be up to 2-3gms on a 14gm single dose or 18gm double dose.

Also the portafilter risers that didn't fit due to the design of the portafilter holder.

    • +1

      This or Baratza Sette 270

From my research Baratza Sette got too many reliability issues - too many plastic parts.
Also the noise - in my book even entry level Eureka's noise level is below average while Baratza Sette is well above average.

    • Great, thanks everyone! Some friends have Specialita and I will probably go for it too. Btw, as mentioned below, I will most likely mod it with something like https://www.printables.com/@ordnerino/collections/571691 or with an ARO Espresso mod.

    • Having owned a settle 270, don't even bother adding it to your list choices. Choose a df54, 64 or a eureka. The df64 has more available burrs to choose from as its a very popular size. The eureka line up has their own proprietary sizing, so range is limited

  • +3

Great grinder. Purchased this about 5 years ago, and as another person mentioned it’s built like a tank. I see this lasting for a long long time.

Great buy if you’re getting into good coffee at home.

  • Great grinders, have had mine trouble free for a few years now. Probably still cheaper on espressocoffeeshop but I guess if you're worried about warranties then Aus is better.

  • In terms of quality and versatility, anyone knows how does it compare to te 064s?

    • DF64 is a much more capable grinder and a upgrade over this. It's dial is easier to adjust from espresso to filter and it has It has bigger burrs so it will grind faster and cooler.

      • Thanks but I’m referring to the the Timemore 064s.

        • +1

Even easier choice Timemore hands down.

  • +5

If you are already spending $600, why not go for the Specialita? $725 at time of this comment.

    https://coffeeteca.com.au/product/eureka-mignon-specialita-5…

    • +3

Because for $30 more than this deal (and about $100 less than your link) you can buy it from here

      https://www.espressocoffeeshop.com/en/coffee-grinders/55-658…

      • +2

I posted that link for apple to apple comparison (i.e. local stock, warranty, AU plug).

If you are go to buy from ECS, even more reason to go for the Specialita.

      • +3

I bought my Specialita from there a couple of years back. Best decision I’ve made.

Due to the simplicity of a grinder there’s unlikely to be problems with getting it internationally. Also, shipping was super quick from Italy. Faster than a lot of domestic stuff.

        • +1

My thoughts too, purchased from there 2+ years ago too. Hard to imagine much going wrong and if it did I could get it resolved anyway.

        • +2

I couldn’t believe how quick shipping was. I ordered 2 days after my local coffee machine, and both arrived on the same say.

  • Got this grinder as well for a number of years, still working great.

  • +1

Newbie here. I see this one does not measure weight and it works manually or based on a timer.
Same brand here also around the same price: https://coffeeteca.com.au/product/eureka-mignon-casa/
Or same brand bit higher on price (not much): https://coffeeteca.com.au/product/eureka-mignon-specialita-5…

Anyone with experience can explain the differences?

    • +5

@persianoz Here's a run down on the Eureka grinders in this category.

      • The Specialita has 55mm burrs, 310W motor and just the right mount of electronics to have seamless workflow without too many things that can go wrong. I have one and like it a lot. The grind by time feature works really well and 0.1 second increments are small enough to satisfy even the most demanding tweakers.

      • The Libra has 55mm burrs and 310W motor, like a Specialita, but it has more complicated electronics. Some people report issues with the built in scales. I don't see much value in having the scales built into the grinder. A separate coffee scale (Carrottimes(amazon.com.au) works well for me) is a lot more useful as you can move it as required and get it to show you both the ground coffee weight as well as the extracted weight, shot timer and ratio. If you are so inclined, you can also get a flow rate. None of that functionality is available if the scale is in the grinder. Also, grind by weight is not completely precise. If you are OCD, you'll still weigh the ground coffee separately and adjust the last 0.2g or 0.1g.

      • The Silenzio 50 only has 50mm burrs and 260W motor, non-adjustable portafilter holder, but extra sound proofing. Electronics appear to be the same as Specialita.

      • The Silenzio Casa increases the motor power to 310W, the rest seems the same as Silenzio 50.

IMHO, the Specialita is the best grinder in that group. All these grinders are relatively quiet - certainly much quieter than Sunbeam or Breville grinders. If the noise level is a major factor, the Silenzio Casa (with bigger motor) might be a good choice.

The adjustable portafilter holder may or may not be a factor for you. I was using my Specialta without it being installed for the first two years and was fine with that. I then installed and adjusted the fork to fit the portafilter and dosing funnel for a hands free operation. I love it and it is absolutely mess free. I never have to wipe down any coffee mess near the grinder. No static, no spills, no retained grinds falling out of the chute. A very pleasant and uncomplicated workflow.

I'd go with the time more over this.that was recently put on ozb

  • looks like a nice flat burr

  • +6

Best grinder I've owned. The whole house doesn't need to wait for me to finish grinding coffee to continue a conversation. Ie its a fairly quiet. Much quieter than a Breville smart Grinder in tone and volume.

    • I’ve got the Breville Smart Grinder paired with the BDB approx 5 years old now. Would you say this is a step up from it? Any noticeable improvements with coffee taste. I’m only using Aldi Beans.

      • +2

Night and day difference. Once I switched from the Breville Smart Grinder Pro to a Eureka Specialita, I realised that I wasted years drinking badly ground coffee. The Sunbeam and Breville grinders are not very good. Both the workflow and the taste in the cup will improve.

If you have a grinder, do yourself a favour and order some decent beans instead of suffering Aldi coffee. Two OzB regulars are AIRJO and Lime Blue Coffee - both will deliver good coffee at reasonable prices.

      • Yes - Eureka grinder a step up from Breville Smart Grinder.
But only if you are interested in improving your skills too - tweaking grind size/quantity is not hard but majority of Breville coffee machine users don't do it.

  • I have the Eureka Atom, very happy with it 7 years of use still going strong.

  • For similar money the DF64 gen2 is also a good option. Currently $613 delivered from here(df64coffee.com) .
Bigger burr and better for single dosing. But would be louder than the Silenzio if that is important.

  • love mine, excellent machine

  • How’s this stack against a WPM Welhome Pro ZD18S?

    • Not in the same ballpark.

WPM grinder is a commercial 64mm workhorse at double the price.

Eureka Silencio is a 50mm grinder - the smallest they make. Next step up is Eureka Specialita class, at 55mm, then you go up in price and burr size.

      • Right, but Costco is selling them for $500.

Would that make it a good buy or just overblown completely for home use?

        Currently have a smart grinder.

  • +1

No one compare this with Timemore 78S?

    • They both grind coffee. Everything else -> Different.

That includes price category. Kind of like comparing a $40k car to a $100k+ car.

  • BTW: The bonus items that come with this deal:

    • Tamper - a good one is important. This one looks the part, but the devil is in the detail. In this case the relevant detail is the fit of the tamper to your basket. 0.5mm clearance is about the max you'd want. Most "standard" baskets are 58.5mm, the tamper is advertised as 58mm. It may be OK.
    • Leveler - waste of space (but at least not money, since it's thrown in). A rotary leveler, like the ones on offer here, are nowhere near as useful as a (much cheaper) combination of a dosing funnel and a DWT tool. Speaking from personal experience.
