We (as in, SA/WA) have monthly discounts in the form of rent 'cheques'. This month it's $25 off a spend of $149 or more. Depending on spending patterns it's a better deal, and IKEA doesn't seem to control how many cheques a person signs up for…

      • and IKEA doesn't seem to control how many cheques a person signs up for…

The staff were happy for me to pay for one trolley load in two transactions, with two coupons.

Not also the prices vary, sometimes dramatically, between west and east.

  • Thanks Pavel!! ;-D

    • Damn, didn't realize I was sharing my details :) Cheers.

  • I prefer "Eat your discount".

  • not sure what their refund policy is but…………………..

    1. spend $200 on products
    2. obtain gift card
    3. refund products
    4. ???????????????
    5. profit

      That's just dodgy.

All for the sake of a $20 ikea voucher … are you serious??!

    • it's dodgy but good on him for potentially figuring out a loop hole

All that effort to get a gift card which eventually you'll have to spend at Ikea anyway. How much is your time worth? :P

    • Wouldn't be surprised the receipt is linked to the gift card, when you refund they just cancel the gift card in the backend.

    • Or the receipt can simply specify you've got a gift card out of it, either return it or they deduct $20 from your refund.

There's no loophole. When you return the products they deduct the gift card value from the refund amount. Same as when they had 25 on 250 spend earlier this year. There's a stamp placed on your invoice which says "voucher taken" so they know you got a gift card with purchase.

  • Check Ikea us website, almost 50% lower than Ikea au… they really should reduce their price.

    • For some products that's true. MALM 6 drawer units are much cheaper in the USA. Stuff like BILLY bookcases are almost the same.

Whenever I want to buy something from IKEA I now check the US web site to see if the local price is realistic.

  • wouldnt it be printed on the original receipt that you got a $20 ikea voucher ? anyway i wonder if you can buy a ikea gift card with a gift card and some items to make it a grand total of $200 and still qualify for this $20 ikea voucher ?

    • Answer to first part see my post above. For your other question, as per previous 25 for 250 promo, you should be able to purchase 200 of gift cards and get a 20 bonus card. The limitation is you can't use gift cards to purchase other gift cards.

      • FYI, I tried to purchase gift cards (so that I can shop later) at the checkout, but the lady said that the deal is not valid for purchases of gift cards. So, I ended up just shopping on the same day :) (Ikea Richomnd)

  • I don't see the deal anywhere, but I'll take your word for it. I was planning on going to ikea in the next week or two anyway.

    • The deal starts 26 Jul. There was a proof link to web view of that email I received, but since there were some of my personal details I've replaced that with just link to ikea's home page.

Australia Has The Most Expensive IKEA Products In The Entire World: http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/07/australia-has-the-most-…

That's true, but personally I prefer "the most expensive IKEA" rather than "no IKEA". And it basically applies to everything. It's good to have a choice, isn't it?

    • On newspaper forums there's usually no end to apologists for large corporations who claim we have to pay more than everyone else simply because retail workers and rent cost more here, while side stepping the important issue of us being charged more because we were once happy to receive the mushroom treatment on pricing.

IKEA is cheaper in Norway than Australia. Norway! A country with high GDP, strong currency, and high cost of living. On a stop over in Oslo airport I paid AU$47 for a plate of reheated lasagne and a pint of beer.

    • It is just because they can get away with it. Where can we find reasonable cheap quality furniture in Australia? There are even so little furniture deals posted here in ozbargain.

  • very nice, as moving house so need a whole lot of new furniture :)
