Only 2 years of support, so about a year and a half left.
Got Android 13 near the end of last year.
This is what I struggle to get past when looking at android phones. My iPhones get updated for six years. And if you replace the battery, a five year old iPhone runs surprisingly well. I tend to buy Apple products and run them into the ground. When I used to use android I couldn’t shake the feeling of feeling left behind after a year or two.
Eh, at least old versions of android aren't crippled. iOS forces you to have the latest or apps stop working.
One of the best phones according to mkbhd video.
The more I look at it and read about it the more I want it. But my note 10 plus is still good…
Maybe I can hold off until the zen 10.
The only thing this phone is really missing is the wireless charging
Geez that's a big omission on a $1k phone. Especially a small compact one too.
Was looking at this but what threw me off was no wireless charging, no zoom lens and only 256gb
How good is camera on this?
Pretty good. Top 3 camera systems according to MKBHD. It was his 2nd favourite phone of 2022 after Pixel 7.
Pretty damn good. People seem to have a bias against any camera that's not Samsung or Apple, but MKBHD's blind test shows the Zenfone 9 to be the top 3rd camera, with 1st being the Pixel 6a and 2nd being the Pixel 7 Pro.

Not sure if you follow mkbhd, but he’s sort of the go-to tech YouTuber when it comes to phones. He’s a bit of a fence sitter for my taste, but he has clout in the space.
Every year he does a blind camera test on twitter where he uploads pics from various phones in a head to head poll. But generally twitter compression kills the picture quality and the winner is usually “the picture that was brightest/most contrast”.
This time he built a site, built the algorithm to randomly serve images, images aren’t compressed so it’s an actual representation of the phones. It’s the most comprehensive camera test I’ve seen any YouTuber do. Like him or not, I have to admire the thought process and execution of the test.

Couldn't agree more. It's generally why I avoid his videos, he's too bland and politically correct, but yes he did good on the blind camera test this year.
say what
Better off just buying one of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones released in the last month off Aliexpress for around $900-$1000. (if you watch Youtube reviews, most reviewers have no issues with getting network coverage, Google Play services and even Netbanking to work successfully.)
I guess the issue is that it's "most", and once you buy it and try it, you don't want it not to work locally….
If you're paying $900-$1000 for China phone from AliExpress with no local warranty, you're doing it wrong.
how is jbhifi when it comes to online refunds?
I don't know about online delivered phones, but I got a pixel 7 pro online and picked it up in-store. It was randomly turning off and I took it back and after about 15mins I walked out with a new replacement with new warranty.
Having a similar problem with a phone brough from JB (motorola). Dreading taking it back because the fault is hard to recreate, did you have to prove the issue?
I got zenfone 8, still working fine, how much improvement is this to 8?
really thinking about this. apart from wireless charger though the only other issue i have is it comes with android 12 and i dont think asus have promised more than 2 years of updates. so android 14 will be its last update.
Unlocked bootloader and source code is public though.
So community support is likely.
Great that it has a 3.5mm headphone jack
OMG! 3.5mm FTW!
Order placed. Partly because of the 3.5mm jack.
If only it had a micro SD card :(
Got this phone in the last sale - no issues so far. Love the headphone jack, decent battery (6 hrs SOT even with 4G/120Hz/full brightness) and feels very snappy (fingerprint scanner is almost too sensitive). Camera is good though no telephoto.
Great phone, such a shame only 2yrs OS updates
I've been happy with Android since about 8.1; I don't mind 12.
Wouldn't bother me if it got zero.
I do not mind stuck at Android 10 either, but I like security patches.
I'm not on a network that requires them. The attack vectors so long as the apps are up to date are hardly worth mention.
How is their os support
