I have a feeling it would go even lower in the future so I'll hold off buying

    • +5

      This is the way.

It launched on 01/09/22. There's plenty of time left in its production run for further discounts and this isn't even $100 off RRP.

    • +4

My target buy is $300 for this set, let see if we can make it ;)

      • same :)

      • Yeah its a really nice new gimmick but i don't have the money or space either.

    • What kind of feeling are we talking about, exactly? Are you planning to let the LEGO go down until you’re satisfied

  • +4

Damn, this set looks awesome but I dont have that sort of spending money

  • +1

No longer Amazon exclusive, smaller retailer TRU Metrohobbies even gamesmen got it. S4M has advertised it for 20% off. So expect at least 30% or more in the future

    • Do they have free shipping?

    • Sold out at this link.

  • +5

Rather than discount it like people are saying, they should just put a Hagrid and Harry figure in there and rebrand it as Harry Potter merch, at a price bump.
Could include Dudley with a pig's tail holding a squashed birthday cake and have a broken door. "You're a wizard Harry!"

    • -1

Nah, not a fan of Harry Potter

    • +13

Could've made it Australian and done a Round the Twist edition…

      • Definitely!

  • +1

    Has Lego jumped the shark?

Seems all of these premium sets are on sale nowadays, are people losing interest in the over saturation of sets?

    • It’s always on sale

    • +5

Lego is like rugs and jewellery.

Never pay full price, always on sale somewhere.

    • +1

Don't forget lots of the people buying these are adults and lots of those have mortgages or pay rent too. Whilst inflation and increased interest may have lead to these RRPs, cash rate increases are here to slow demand and purchasing.

    • +1

Lego jacked their prices last year.

The energy crisis in Europe has meant that Europe sales are down (so I'm told). What disposal income people had is now going to cost of living increases.

People still buy Lego, but the smaller sets or less premium/feature sets. Lego responded with the 2023 catalogue featuring smaller sets.

You will probably see more discounting for the next six months, but this is model specific.

I have a feeling lots of OzBargainers have a dedicated Lego display room in their houses. A luxury the peasants in shoebox apartments definitely don't.

    • +6

My lego room is full I need a ozbargain deal on a warehouse

    • Just a Billy shelf, manly so far with builds of bulk buys, and a couple of new sets.

    • I don’t even display, i build and then downbag back into the box and then build again some other time. Now storing all those big arse boxes… that’s becoming an issue

    • Buy at 20% off or more, play with it, take as many photos as you like, then sell the set for 20% off 2nd hand on gumtree/ebay, just display the photos at home.

    • +1

This "peasant" is unimpressed with this overpriced #!!Q$!

  • Looking for the next expert lego gift, but that's not many pieces for the $…

    • +1

Keep in mind there's a real Fresnel lens and motor in there

      • A clear plastic lego element that's vaguely shaped like a lens, and a tiny little white LED. Looks pretty crummy considering it's meant to cost half a grand.

        • +3

I’m going to replace the LED with a high-powered laser. This will be a great addition to my home security setup

  • I paid full retail 😏😔

    • +7

      Never go full retail

      • I needed to buy a birthday gift before Christmas and this was the perfect present

        • For yourself?!

  • +7

Have you ever.. ever Lego'd like this?

    • +4

When you're buying sets at 45… are you going round the twist?

  • +1

when modular used to cost $250 and it was considered expensive. Now the norm is close to $500??! wtf lego…

    • What build are you comparing this to

    • -1

      Modulars are $350

  • When I was in the lego store last month, this set really caught my eye. I spend quite a few minutes looing at the display model. If I can get a new set of $250, I would not hesitate to get 2 sets and open one box for fun, but at the current price I will just wait. Maybe $250 is not realistic but I don't think I will pay more than $300.

    • +7

Don't kid yourself. $250 is realistic for a 2000 piece unlicensed set (and $50 for the extras)
They still think there is free covid money around.
And before the haters come I remember picking up old fishing store, Ferris wheel 26xx pieces) and the like for 160-180 on sale. Rrp on the Ferris wheel was $290 so you cannot possibly tell me a price increase of 62% and parts decrease of 600 (or ~20%) can account for the motor and inflation.

      • The fishing store is such a nice set. I disassembled mine but keeping it!

    • I totally agree re: unlicensed sets. I almost get why Star Wars etc sets are expensive, they’re paying Disney, but when it’s just Ideas/ICONS sets, they’re should not be that markup (especially when they make the production version smaller and less cool in almost every case).

Can’t see that Hocus Pocus set selling very well at all either.

  • +2

This price is outrageous, why is lego so expensive?

    • +3

Lego has become incredibly popular and people with money enjoy things too

    • Isn't really any competitors and popularity has grown.

  • Now showing as $389.99
