  • I heard the 4 isnt as good as the 3 coz its not a True HEPA filter

    • they advertise it to be better than conventional HEPA

    • +1

Purifier 3 series has been end of life. 4 series uses an H13 filter, still efficient (99.97% elimination of 0.3μm particles) and has longer life (6-12 months vs. HEPA 3-6 months)

    • +1

Can confirm - Currently going through this with a sibling of mine - I own 3H they borrowed and it helped a lot.

They then bought 4 Pro and it wasnt as good. I gave it a try too and agree its no where near as good as 3H.

They have since returned the 4 Pro and got a 3H.

      • what are you talking about the actual filter can be used interchangeably between the 3 and 4 but not the pro tho, your 4 pro probably had one of the other colour filters rather than the grey one which is true HEPA

        • The 4 Pro doesnt have HEPA - it only has their "new and advanced filter".

I am giving insight as to my and my siblings experience of this product :) - hope that clarifies it!

Edit: Just fact checked myself - Looks like from the Mi-site the HEPA filter doesnt show as being compatible with the 4 or 4 PRO.
Also the 4 Pro filter shows a comparison between their filter and the old models HEPA filter

What isn't as good? In what way are you measuring its effectiveness? More allergies? Not getting rid of smells as well? Thanks

        • +2

My sibling wasnt able to sleep with it in the room (Breathing difficulties persisted).

Me personally, I was able to sleep with it in the room but I felt like the room just wasnt as clean as normal and I noticed small annoyances as well.
I.E had slightly blocked nose when I woke up - walked out of the room (the 4 PRO was in) and it cleared up straight away and i could breathe - walked back in 5 min later and I had a slightly blocked nose within 2 min.

Very anecdotal but just our experiences !

TLDR: More allergy type symptoms vs 3H + less clean air feeling.

My 3H died after 6 months and now I need to try to get any kind of warranty out of Gearbite..
Sometimes I wonder about the value of these brands and sellers.

    • +1

At least with Electric Unicorn it's through Panmi so you'll have no issues compared to Gearbite who grey import. Still it's only been 6 months so they shouldn't be difficult about it.

    • Do you know what you’re gonna get next if you do?

      Contact rep on Ozbargain https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/140858

I had issue with my xiaomi electric scooter. They stopped responding to my messages on ebay exactly 180 days after purchase. They know ebay will do nothing after 90 days and paypal after 180 days.

Contacting rep was the only way to get fixed afterwards.

  • dam good deals all around. Thanks op

  • +3

anyone seen any deal around the filters themselves?

    • Any deals of the HEPA filters?

  • The compact one comes with an adapter.

It that the same for these or do these ones come with an AU plug?

    • Purifer 4 lite comes with an adapter as well as plug is build-in. 4 and 4 pro come with an AU plug

  • are the filters washable? do they have to be strictly replaced when the app says or can their use be extended?

    • You can always use one of those thin pre-filters which they sell at places like Daiso for range hood or aircon intake.

  • @Clear , what's the difference between the one you posted and this one other than AU vs Global Version?

Does the one you posted come with an extra HEPA filter?

    • +1

It's more expensive than the Air Purifier 4 linked in this deal. There's a comparison in my deal too.

  • My 3H has developed an intermittent loud buzzing after just over a year, which is apparently a very common issue. Can't even sleep with it nearby now. Have tried blowing out the sensor fan (which is the culprit), but no luck.

I wonder if they fixed this issue in the 4?

    • +1

Those fans don't last long. Not much you can do other than removing the fan and trying to lube the bearing in it underneath the fan sticker, or replacing the fan itself with a new one.

  • This or a Levoit 400s?

  • Are there any filter deals?

    • +1

Yes, I am also after new filters for Pro 4. I paid $92 last month and noticed that this store has it for $62.

      • How long does the filter lasts and what's your average usage ?

        • +1

I am a cheapskate and normally use for at least 3 months (past its warning alert). My filter runs 24/7 though.

  • Great for the annual bush fires we seem to have.

  • +1

Pro H13 filter seems to be around $69

    and FWIW, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12557533/redir

    • Oh I didn't see this before - My sibling had a similar issue !

  • +1

Any deals on Xiaomi Pro H air purifier?

  • Does this do much for Melbourne since air quality is good anyway

    • +2

Good for allergies and particularly good for bushfire season and winter with all the woodheater smog.

    • +1

It won't do much if your air quality is good, mine only good to show how many ppm is in the air, which almost always around 2-5. But then can spike to 200-300 the kitchen is cooking in the house.

      • Thats cool if it can quickly remove smell from cooking in house.

        • It doesn't remove smell unfortunately, after cooking the spike would lasts for around 15 mins before it goes back to normal single digit number, but the smell would still lingers. It's still more effective to just use an air freshener or just opening the window.

          • @BargainDemon: Ok thanks for the information. I will stop debating whether i need one or not.

  • Avoid the lite imo, it is a pain to use and significantly noisier than the 4.

  • Will this help with dust in the house?

    • +1

From my experience, not appreciably. Anyone who says otherwise only has to consider how much dust the filter captures after say, 3 months, versus how much a vacuum cleaner collects after a week.

      • +1

I agree, this air purifier is not a replacement for vacuuming. You have to have both, or just the vacuum cleaner.

Vacuum regularly and then have this air purifier turned on while sleeping. When sleeping, less dust is kicked up from the carpet and the air purifier can do its job clearing up what is left floating. When there is activity in the room, dust keeps getting kicked up and it takes some time before the air is all cycled through and cleaned, but new dust keeps getting kicked up anyway.

    • +2

It will do absolutely nothing in regards to household dust. If you want something that helps with that, you'll need to buy a robot vacuum.

  • Will this help with hay fever allergy?

  • +1

How does the 4 compare to a Philips 1000?

  • tempted, but imma hold out & build a corsi rosenthal box myself on the cheap instead. heard some ppl have used pc fans for this!

  • bang for buck which one to get?

  • Got a 3H which is overdue for filter change. Where do you guys get yours?

    • +1

I used to get mine from eBay, but genuine replacement filters are hard to find these days as the 3 series have been phased out, so it's mostly unbranded 3rd party filters that are being sold now unfortunately.

      • Thank you. Would you be able to link me of the one you buy please?

        • +1

The last set of 2 filters I bought was from gearbite on eBay, but that was over a year ago and they haven't restocked it since then so it's been sold out ever since:
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184797407688

Someone said that the filter for the Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 (not Pro) is compatible with the 3 series, but I can't confirm that at this point, I'll have to do some more research on this.

          [Update]
I just did some googling and this PCByte product page does seem to confirm this is true — unfortunately it is quite a bit more expensive now, but you might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else:
          https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/xiaomi-mi-air-purifier-hepa-filt…

(try searching for "Xiaomi Air Purifier 4 HEPA filter", but make sure it's not the 4 Pro version as that is bigger and not compatible with the 2 and 3 series)

          • +1

@deadpoet: Thanks @deadpoet. Your responses are always helpful on Air Purifier related threads.

I am in the same boat as @DardyMate. I need new filters for both of my 3H. Constantly being reminded by the Mi app.
I should have stocked up last year when they were on sale.

Question for you: How do you dispose of the old filters in an environmentally safe way? Just place them in the red council (rubbish) bin?

            • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Unfortunately the used filters are essentially landfill, there isn't any way to recycle or re-use them as far as I know. You can probably stretch out the usage by vacuuming the filter every month or two (this is what I do) to get rid of any built-up dust bunnies, but the filters do wear out eventually.

You can also extend the filter life by only running the air purifier when you need it — it seems that some people run theirs 24/7 which is not necessary in the vast majority of situations.

Also to follow up on the earlier info, I think I was mistaken about the series 4 filters being interchangeable with the earlier series — as far as I can make out, you can potentially use the 2/3 series HEPA filter in the 4, but not vice versa. I am not sure if Xiaomi enforces this with an RFID lock or whether the actual form factor is different, it's a curious thing.

It seems to be very hard to find any reliable information on this, and Xiaomi's own site doesn't make any mention of it, other than saying that the new filter for the 4 is only compatible with the 4:
              https://www.mi.com/global/product/xiaomi-smart-air-purifier-…

              Very frustrating.

So if you're after a new genuine filter for the 3H, best to stick to searching for the filter model number which is M8R-FLH/SCG4021GL.

It looks like Panmi, PCByte and Kogan still have stock, as well as several eBay sellers, but the prices are almost double what they used to be.
              https://shop.panmi.com.au/products/mi-air-purifier-hepa-filt…
              https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/xiaomi-mi-air-purifier-hepa-filt…

[Update] I found this listing selling for $52.65 with the BTSR22 discount code, but I can't vouch for this seller as I have never bought anything from them:
              https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114466235620

              • @deadpoet:

I am not sure if Xiaomi enforces this with an RFID lock or whether the actual form factor is different, it's a curious thing.

I am guessing the RFID lock must not be strictly enforced since there seems to be lots of generic filters out there.

When I was searching for replacement HEPA Class 13 filters for the 3H, I came across the following two unbranded models:

                • https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185538580479 [Gray Colour]
                • https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/384350782694 [Purple Colour]

They are almost half the price of the genuine filter.
Is there any significant benefit to buying the genuine filter over generic ones if the generic ones are not completely garbage?

Also, what is up with those purple coloured filters?

                • +1

@DoctorCalculon: I ruled out the idea of buying generic unbranded filters because there's simply no way to tell if they are effective or not — we'd need a lab to test them. For all we know, they could be doing barely any filtering. And since it's completely unbranded, even if you found a model that was independently lab tested, there's no guarantee that a future unbranded filter will perform the same since you don't know if it came from the same factory or batch.

For the kind of cost savings we're talking about here, it's not worth it.

As for the purple or green coloured filters, I believe those are the specialised versions intended for certain scenarios. Purple seems to be intended for "antibacterial/formaldehyde" purposes — I don't know how the specific material makeup of this filter varies, perhaps they have more charcoal in there? I personally don't think it's worth looking into these, better just to stick to the proven HEPA filters.

Maybe if you were doing lots of house painting and wanted to remove the fresh paint fumes, then a purple filter might be worth it over a regular HEPA filter, but it's a pretty niche scenario.

As for "bacteria", I have no idea what they mean by that. A HEPA filter is confirmed to be effective at reducing viral loads in the air (including COVID), so you don't need an "antibacterial" filter, a traditional HEPA filter will do the job perfectly well.

[Update] OK, so the official Xiaomi listing says the antibacterial filter is effective against dust mites, bacteria and mycete (mould?). I'm a bit skeptical about the effectiveness of that versus the regular HEPA filter, but that's their official take:

    • I bought mine from gearbite

  • My 1mth old model 4 is showing PMI of 300-400 and we def don't have that level lol. Cleaned the sensor and still the same

  • +1

I've been looking at the Philips Air Purifier Series 1000, it's just come on special for $218
Would really appreciate any opinions on these over the Philips?

    • After doing my own research further, I've pulled the pin on the Philips 1000 on ebay, sub $200 with ebay plus. Good reduction on rrp. Looks like previous model, but gets good reviews. Will see.

    • I have had one for 2 years now! Absolutely love it, but i also just bought the xiaomi smart purifier 4. Design wise, i guess xiaomi is nicer, and it has google integration which the phillips does not. Filters are cheaper for the xiaomi one too

  • how is this compare to https://www.blueair.com/au
    ?

    • I didn't know of this model, what is the price?

      • I think price range from $600-1K+
I saw my friend's workplace uses them

        • Oh wow, nice to see some workplaces finally adopting this in their office. Which industry is he/she in?

          • @sagrules: Wait, I thought it was a norm for offices to have this? (I wouldn’t know, I don’t work in office 😅)

They are accountants and software developers

            • +1

@froddoog: No it definitely isn't the norm at the moment. Although it should be. Hopefully people will catch on soon that we all need access to clean air!

            • @froddoog: Also, people I know BYO which is unfair due to the risks

  • Currently have a 3H upstairs and thinking of getting another for the bottom floor. Any reason I should consider the 4 Pro vs just the 4? I have 2 dogs if that helps.
