        • My council took our recycling bins away because my arsehat neighbours kept doing it. Putting non recyclable material in the recycling bin.

They are so thick the couldn't figure out what belongs in the rubbish bin and what belongs in a recycling bin.

      Just spray paint the lid.

$57 for my council area all year around … even gets delivered and has the sticker already on it: https://www.nawma.sa.gov.au/bookings-and-requests/bins-for-a…

  • +4

People pay for these bins? I thought the Ozbargain way was to call your council and say your bin was stolen, wait for new 240L bin to be delivered free-of-charge, do the good ol switch-a-roo and thus free brand-new bin

    • Sometimes they give you referb. Never cleaned out properly

    • -1

They make you sign a stat dec. Not sure I'd want to be making a false statement on one of those.

      • my council has never made me sign a stat dec and i’ve got a few replacement bins

    • Cant use the second one as itll be identified (by the markings on the side) by Council as 'stolen', so what do you do with the old one once you receive the new?

  • +1

Had anyone use these for rain water storage?

    • +10

Only when it rains on pick up day…

    • +1

Only 240L? Also how do you use the water when it's full?

      • Maybe installing a tap near the bottom of the bin?

        • +1

          Mmm bin jus.

          • +1

@Bdawg: Mineral water. You know its good for you as its full of minerals.

    • No, but they work well as an extra dunny.

Usually get about 3.5 years before it needs an empty.

      • Reminds me of the toilet pool.

        • +1

I'm not even slightly tempted to click on that link…

          • @Bdawg: Do it. You know you want to.

    • Was my first thought when I saw this, I just bought some 100 litre tanks from Aldi last weekend and they were $69.99 each though they had some fittings and stand included. This seems like a cheaper option and better capacity, I’d just be using the water for the garden, interesting…

edit: Oops, not in NSW ☹️

Anyone used one of these for cold water therapy? How many bags of ice do you reckon you'd need to get the temp down to 1 or 2 degrees from tap water?

Tempted to buy two and have a hot/cold setup going.

    • +1

Let me know if you find a deal on an ice making machine

    • Yep thinking the same thing. Getting out might be tricky though?

    • AFL players use bins, so why not.
You can keep old milk bottles in a chest freezer and dump in when ready to use.
For the hot bin you might want to insulate it, a few towels would be useful.

  • All my life's problems go in this bin

    • +1

Make sure you do it before rigor mortis sets in.

    • +1

You're going to need a larger bin

  • In the same boat OP, really want the 100L one, but no way to convince myself to buy it if the 240L costs less…

  • +1

We use one of these for Christmas tree storage. Works quite well for that task.

  • +1

Great, I need one in case my bogan neighbours steal mine again but.. no deal here. Boo!

    • what the (profanity) is wrong with people , why did they steal your bin

      • Obviously they are in need of a bin…?

  • Would council trucks empty these without street number stickers?
good to have one as a buffer.
tried to add 2 in cart, still no free delivery with onepass. seems like its dimensions exceed free delivery requirements.

Will this fit a standard size person?

    • I am too scared to ask why…. but.. why do you ask?

    • Yes. Bin joustable and jump scare approved

    • Not quite, you need to cut the legs off

      • This man watches those crime show.

    • Horizontal chop from crotch should work really well.

    • I rather using an old rug 👍

    • I'm curious to know what you define as a 'Standard' Size Person

We have these for the containers for change scheme. The first one we found you can fit close to 1,500 cans (crushed). The second one we use for plastic bottles by first heating them up using the steam wand of the coffee machine and so they become easy to crush. We've not counted how many you can fit in but my guess would be 800 or so 1.25L bottles.

Both bins are stored around the side of the house so as to not be an eyesore.

This means we only need to do a trip there every few months which makes it more worthwhile as petrol / diesel is not cheap and we don't live close to a centre.

    • in nsw we can’t crush the cans or bottles as they need to read the bar code to get approved for the 10 cents

  • -1

People buy these? just call the council and say some bugger stole yours.

    • you need to provide a stat dec lol

    • +2

But that's lying and being dishonest, if it wasn't already stolen. Why do you even have to look at bargains if you can just steal?

      • Why not both?

  • Do these hold water well? eg will they fail if they are used as storage?

    • Hold water perfect, won't fail. I use one for rainwater for the garden but you won't be able to move it, also the lid doesn't seal so no good for drinking but fine for garden

  • +1

I remember getting one from Masters closing down sale for $30 and had to shove it in my backseat corolla lol

Free green bin from your local council

    • Our local council do not provide additional bins, but can apply for an additional green waste collection free of charge. We have to purchase the second bin from a nominated supplier (not this deal). I purchased one for a different purpose for this price. Thanks for posting the deal.

  • Does anyone know where we can get slimmer wheelie bins, that take up less footprint but are still acceptable by council for collection? I have a townhouse in CBD that doesn't have a communal wheelie bin space - wheelie bins are taking up space in the garage and causing damage as they are knocked against the wall.

  • Coming up as $139 in VIC

    • Change stores. $59 for me. SE Melb.

  • Is this the same size as standard council bins?

    • It's the same size but you may have to check with your council. Our council only accepts bins purchased from a nominated supplier because of safety reasons I think.

  • Still have to pay $52/year for council to empty it

    • As in extra on top of current bill?

  • In QLD its showing up as $139

  • Can I use this as a green waste bin in Vic as they have a different lid color here

  • Easy to manoeuvre

    Sold!

  • Arnt these free from ur neighbours down the road?

  • Handy, my last one was left out by selectors.

  • Just in time for the JB HiFi Perks $10 bin fillers

  • if i put two green bins in front of my property will they remove the rubbish from both? Anyone tried this yet?

my stupid council decided to come only every two weeks for landfill but come every week for compost…

    stupid

Not cheaper than this deal but if you're in Adelaide, Paramount Browns have multiple sizes and colours of bins (same as most councils) available every day, can even get spare lids to change to match your area.

    $74.99 for 240L
    https://www.paramountbrowns.com.au/products/wheelie-bins/240…

There's usually a grey recycled plastic one for $50 but currently sold out, great for hay feeder for your hobby farm animals, 240L fits exactly one standard size square bail, cut a couple of big holes down the bottom sides. Just FYI 🙂

  • Cheap Coffin - Thanks OP (and Bunnings)

  • Just ask council someone stole my bin. You get a new one delivered to your house.

Use the old one keep the new one to store logs or firewood
