  • Nice work!

If you're not a gamer, install Linux Mint Mate. You'll be amazed. xx

    • +5

I game and Linux isn't as much of a deal breaker as it use to be.

The best part is when I'm mobile I can turn the GPU off in Linux which does improve battery life significantly.

    • +3

no I don't like the shade of green they use

  • Decent prices.

Any options to have windows 11 instead of 10?

    Cheers

    • +6

So long as it’s supported (8th gen onwards) it’s a free upgrade that’s easy to install.

    • +4

Build an install USB using Rufus. It has an option to remove requirement checks.

  • +15

Just FYI, there's a big jump in performance between intel CPU before the 7th gen and after 8th gen due to doubling in core counts.

Intel Core i7-7600U Cores: 2 Threads: 4 CPU Mark score: 3707
Intel Core i7-8565U Cores: 4 Threads: 8 CPU Mark score: 6227
Intel Core i7-10510U Cores: 4 Threads: 8 CPU Mark score: 6734

    • +2

So get the 8th at minimum if possible?

      • +2

Yep, also for official Win 11 support if you're running Windows that is

      • It would be definitely more capable.

6th gen, 7th gen are already slow at browsing few chrome tabs, although they are still usable.
8th gen and beyond will be good for 1-2 years before it starts to feel slow on general use. These are only based on my observation on the intel U series CPU however.

My general assumption on CPU Mark score is
Around 4000: Ok for now but laggy, will not buy personally.
around 6000: Probably okay for 1-2 years
around 8000: Should last 2+ years
around 10000: No concerns, it will last a while

        • +1

Nonsense! I have very old core i5 laptop with score of under 3000 that works more than great with 20 chrome tabs open.

          • +1

@MagicOZ: I've had way more than 20 as well on 1st gen i5, well before the memory and energy saving features came out in Edge and Chrome. It has 8 GB of RAM and ad blockers though. The real CPU killers when browsing on my i5 are intensive animations, 3D or videos, but I rarely bother with them. It's not as bad as just loading Android Studio. Graphics requirements have held me back for years.

            • @peterpeterpumpkin: Big programs like the IDE definitely would show the age of any old machine. I have SSD on my laptop, before that even opening the calculator would look a tedious task, the CPU is not the bottleneck, most of the time is the IO.

    • +4

Most applications are not utilising more than single core.

Single core performance is more important than those multi core figure.

Undeniably, 8th gen Vs 7th single core is the biggest jump. Previous gen only increase 3% per new gen

      • +4

Edge, Chrome, Firefox all use multiple sub processes for internet browsing and will benefit greatly from more cores.

Windows security likes to scan in the background a lot and use a full core while doing it's scanning (can restrict CPU usage in group policy if you have Windows Pro)

When Windows is doing updates it will use a core applying the patches and some of the cumulative updates are quite big and take a long time to install.

Heaps of reasons to get more cores.

  • Decent prices

  • +3

There are some good deals out there for sure, good work!

I would appreciate some REAL pictures of actual products instead of the ones from manufacturer.

Secondly How do you define decent battery life? do you perform any test and make sure its capacity is above a baseline (say 85%) ? Battery life is going to be very important considering this will be school laptop and needs to run for 4-8 hours without charge.

    • -1

      Hi, Thanks for your feedback.

Regarding real pictures, its quite impossible due to stock size. By decent I meant more than 3 hours but at the same time it depends on that apps running in that laptop as well.

      • -3

at the same time it depends on that apps running in that laptop as well.

Does that mean you don't format and clean install Windows on these, so I might get someone else's data?

        • Maybe just factory reset the system so it wipe and reinstall everything including bloatwares

        • +1

Some software uses more power than others, this means the battery will last longer on less power hungry software. I assume OP isn't giving away other peoples data

        • Does that mean you don't format and clean install Windows on these, so I might get someone else's data?

Likely means that battery life is dependent on the apps you're going to be running. Some apps use more CPU / GPU power than others and will drain the battery faster because of this

        • Hi, we factory reset all of them.

      • What will really help me pull the trigger is something like "Battery is guaranteed to be at-least 75% of original capacity" thanks!

        • +3

75%? Even eBay considers 80% to be the absolute minimum for anything claiming to be "refurbished". And 12 month warranty.

A 7th gen in poor physical condition (C grade), with questionable battery and only 3-months guarantee from a new dealer is no bargain at all in my books.
I paid less for an 8th gen Lattitude in excellent condition and 12-month warranty. … And OMG, the display is low-res!
          Stay well away.

    • +1

Battery life is going to be very important considering this will be school laptop and needs to run for 4-8 hours without charge.

I would assume a lot of these laptops don't even have a manufacturer claimed battery life of 8 hours

      • -3

Yes. Get an M1/M2 MacBook Air if you want long battery life for school, not that kids should be using the laptop all day. Unfortunately a lot of schools don't allow that option, despite all but the most specialised of software not needing Windows. I look forward to a cascade of flat battery excuses next year with BYOD (Windows only). Obviously there are other considerations as well, price being one of them.

        • This is bizarrely honing in on mac.
I've had thinkpads last ~20 hours of web browsing/light usage on battery.
No point in getting a mac if it's not supported.
Here, there are some schools that mandate mac usage. That's far more restrictive and expensive for parents - i can't imagine anybody sane wanting this.

        • I am surprised there are still schools dictating platform choice. Are these schools that actually buy the laptop?

Our schools is BYOD and mac laptops dominate. I suspect originally because of things like battery life and build, but then overtime peer pressure as everyone else has one.

Anyway, on these offerings wish that zBook had a more modern processor. Need a workstation for CAD.

  • -5

How much are your normal prices for these ?

    • +1

Anywhere from $80 to $150. Scraping auction sites is a business nowadays.

      • +1

I was asking how much the OP normally sells these for.

It looks like their normal price.

  • -1

I presume that “HD graphics” should be read as: the iGPU can handle 4k and beyond but this business laptop only has a 768p, TN, screen. Right?

    • +1

Yes, HD graphics is a 768p screen and the ones listed as FHD graphics are 1080p screen.

If it can handle 4k or not really depends on the codec and the bitrate.

    • +3

They are more than usable for day2day office/student productivity.

    • +1

Elitebooks are aimed for corporates. So the build quality is much better

      • +2

        But the TN screen…

      • old elitebooks aren't any better than the new envys

  • +5

A little overpriced for this one

    HP EliteBook 830 G5 – Intel Core i7- 8650u, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, FHD Display, Win10

I bought one a few months ago for $400. Am looking for another if the price is negotiable?

    • +1

I agree, $400 is what I would call a deal

  • +1

    need 8th gen

  • -3

some refurb was vomitted on then factory cleaned.

    • How was your factory job?

  • Any of them suitable for gaming?

  • +1

Not saying anything about this deal but I've been buying refurbs for years.
Make sure you check all USB ports, SD card port etc when you get it. Been stung a couple of times finding out something was wrong after the short warranty period.

  • +3

    overpriced.

  • Display is a deal breaker, only HD resolution not even 1080p

    • -4

Go buy a new laptop then.

    • Majority of the laptops in the list are FHD 1080p

  • +6

vis a vis the website, it was hard work to access if one uses noscript trusting nothing to start with - I had to temporarily trust 7 sites, one at a time, just to see a picture of a laptop. It would be great if the website displayed moderately well without javascript enabled.

  • Feedback: On the "Product Condition" tab, "Grade E", i think the word "new paragraph" is not meant to be there?

    • Thanks for pointing that out. Already updated.

  • +1

Gumtree/Markeplace can also get a few good deals.

    Got a ZBook G6 Intel i7 9th Gen, 32gb,Quadro graphics for ~$400.

Also helped that the seller had tax invoice, allowing me to depreciate.

  • Does anyone here own Lenovo Miix 510-12ISK or Yoga X390? Wonder how long does the battery last for on these devices? I'm looking for a laptop for year 5 student.

  • Little lost on which one is better between https://www.corporatepc.com.au/store/Lenovo-Ideapad-3-14IML0… and https://www.corporatepc.com.au/store/HP-EliteBook-830-G5-Int…

First one has better CPU and second has more RAM… some expert comments will help as I am keen on more RAM but if CPU is far better than I can choose first one. Usage limited to light video editing and streaming high res movies

    • im no expert at all .. but i would go for the lenovo pending double checking if the cpu is indeed faster, can never tell these days. its at least newer. you can always upgrade memory(also have to double check that), but you cannot upgrade cpu. also it has a bigger screen.

although the condition is a bit better on the hp… so who knows..

edit: however ebay now doing 20% off refurb and for this price, i think i might look closely at the microsoft surface

  • Anything older than 8th gen intel is not good. Even web browsing would not be snappy and lag a bit over time.
I picked up an immaculate second hand Levovo yoga 7 carbon with 11th gen intel i5, 8g, 512gb for $450. Weights only 900g and full spec windows 11 beast.

    • Are you sure it's not due to NVME Vs standard SSD?

Gen 7 to gen 8 kind of transition of SSD to NVME.

      • possible but the cpu core count is a likely reason too. Dual core cpu is way underpowered and from 8th gen, intel changed all u series laptop cpu to quad core, resulting in a 60-70% performance gain.

  • Anyone can comment on the C condition?

    • Hi, as per the store details, the product which are classified as C have minor marks, scratches, very minor dent or sign of usage. It may have minimal wear on palm rest, keyboard, touchpad or minor white screen blemishes.

Based on my physical inspection, 90% of them are between B and C. If you are worried about white blemishes/minor dents, I would say they are going to be really rare under condition grade C.

  • Interested in the Toshiba, https://www.corporatepc.com.au/store/Toshiba-Portege-X20W-In…
Any chances to knowing the battery wear? and get an actual photograph of the unit.

    • Hi, we have more then 20 of them in stock so really tough to share actual picutres with their battery report. Sorry about that.

  • Any suggestions that fit the below needs? Thanks you so much for any help in advance!

Use: mother in law for study, websurfing, needs to last her 3+years
Price: anything under $1k but closer to $500 is nice
Weight: Light (doesn't need to be the lightest but under 1.4kg max. closer to 1kg would be amazing)
Screen: 13-14" that is over 300nits and looks good (FHD/1080p is fine)
CPU: 8th gen or newer (or ryzen equivalent) and preferably 16gb (but maybe 8gb is ok)

As long as battery last 5-6hrs it will be fine and absolutely no need for any gaming or creative work.

  • What does the shipping time frame (with and without express shipping) to Sydney look like? Is there any customer care number? Couldn't find any contact number to reach out to.

    • Hi, with express post its usually 2 business days and standard postage is usually 3-5 business days depending on the location. Thanks.

  • +1

Received my unit today. Not so happy with the purchase. It feels more like used laptop than a refurbished unit. I was expecting it to be box packed unit (even if its refurbished, usually comes with manuals and official box pack) whilst this one came in some generic packaging with bubble wrap and no user manual or any other documentation. Not sure if this really fits in refurbished category or were my expectations unreasonable? Its really hard to know how long the device has been used for, what were the issues with original device or how long this will be covered under warranty etc. I'm not even sure if the OEM s/w has been reinstalled or not, it came with some "User" account created already with no password so wonder if i need to factory reset myself again.
