    Just as 55”, 65” and 77” S90C and S95C are announced.

      Excellent detective work.

… and golden rule for consumer satisfaction is never buy first Gen of anything.

    • +1

If you understand where and how to use this tech, you can honestly buy now. The brightness upgrade is going from about 1100 nits peak when calibrated to 1300, or a perceptual brightness change of about 10%. The improved tech is mostly being used to increase longevity.

Away from that, apparently the screen is less affected by ambient light than its predecessor, and has upgraded image processing that will also help with longevity. Panel is also getting better reinforced this year as they went a bit too thin with the design.

I believe these 2023 models will also hit lower prices eventually, but that's probably 6 months away. Calibrated colours with 90% rec.2020 is glorious to see in person.

  • +4

Don't these have a ton of issues?

    • +1

That's what I'd think given the price lmfao.

    • I’ve got the 65” and it’s been flawless. What should I be looking out for?

      • It’s flawless now and there’s no doubt about picture quality.

It’s more about 1-2 years down the track - though in Australia you should still be covered by consumer statutory warranty if something happens

      • +4

I have the 65" and its been a dreadul experience. The first two broke twice within the first week. Ive had the third for about a month and a bit and its working great. Only reason i didnt go another brand was that when i went to exchange it the second time nothing was on sale otherwise i would have just given up on samsung.

        • I'm looking at the 65". What was breaking on them? What other models would you have gone for?

          • +1

@Pistoll: Not sure what was breaking. I had the same issue here twice though (i posted on reddit about the issue) https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/z7oq7q/dont_bu…

I would have gone for a c2 if they were on sale after my second samsung. The newest sony oled would have been another option but it was way to much for me to consider getting.

          • +1

@Pistoll: I also wanted the 65" S95B, but the reliability issues convinced me that Samsung QD OLED is not the right choice yet.
Then I wanted the C2, but the CS was pretty close for $800 less. If I could, I would have waited to see how the reliability and discounts for the S95C looks this time next year.

            • @WorstAgreeableRadish: Cheers. I'm in the same boat but I need something in the next 1-2 months so will probably go the CS/C2. I'm used to and would prefer the Samsung interface though for apps.

      • +3

It’s probably best we don’t tell you.

For everyone else though it doesn’t have automatic colourspace detection of HDR content so you’ll never know if it’s tone mapping correctly. Not that it matters because the tone mapping is terrible anyway.

HDR game mode is completely broken too.

      • A warped display. Bad firmware hobbling the brightness. Tizen sucking balls. No DV support.

        This TV should be recalled.

      • +3

Lol who is negging a genuine questions stop being a salty (profanity)…

    • what issues?

      • +2

        They bend easily from memory

    • +7

      Yep, plenty reported online.

When Samsung floats that the new models are built stronger at CES alarm bells should ring.

      • +1

Every post for this TV should say Warning at the start. Extremely high chance of TV being a lemon. Great picture when it works, but will it work?

    • +1

As someone on their 2nd replacement (i.e. 3rd TV): yes. Current one is perfect though.

So.. I'm confused. QD-OLED is basically LED with OLED backlight? Doesn't sound like OLED is the primary technology. I was expecting it to be a slightly tweaked OLED and it isn't..

    • +9

It's an OLED Panel using Qled Quantum dots for colour expression.
So you get the oustanding blacks from OLED and the colour vibrance of QLEDs.

        • +3

Please, feel free to educate me then.

            • +3

              @bargaino: Hm, good question.
I was under the impression that a quantum dot subpixel was applied to one of the layers of the panel which the backlight would shine through to emit a wider array of colours than what is ordinarily achieved through basic rgb pixels.

But you are right, I wasn't aware that they were applied in LCD tvs, only thought it was applied in LED tvs.

              • -2

@ForbiddenCouponJutsu: Yes, Samsung has been selling LCD panels with QD for years, calling them "QLED". It is a good tech, but they have been misleading people to think they are like OLEDs rather than LCD. So almost all QD panels are LCD - this application of QD to OLED is very recent.

                • +3

@bargaino: Okay that's fair enough, but does that make my original point moot?
Does this TV not provide a wider range of colour using the QD subpixels and darker blacks due to it using an OLED panel?
The panel isn't the problem here because as you said yourself this is an OLED panel, not an LCD panel.

                  • @ForbiddenCouponJutsu: It is OLED. But I want to know how it differs from other OLED panels.
The "darker blacks" is true in ideal conditions, but not necessarily noticeable in real-world viewing.
And colour range? Did people complain about flat-screen TVs having a smaller colour range than CRT? I don't think they even noticed.

                    • +1

@bargaino: I don’t think people complain cause it’s not like it’s something noticeable once it’s out of the box sitting on your wall/tv unit. You have nothing else to compare it to so as long as it works and displays a relatively good picture then that’s fine. Out of my friend group I think I’m the only one that cares about quality. Most just go for the best price/size ratio.

                    • +1

@bargaino: QD-OLED has noticeable benefits over WOLED, particularly brightness. https://youtu.be/1R_2xnWMXIg

                      • +1

@Ryballs: And colour. Walk into a JB's and without looking at the labels try and spot the tv's that have excellent black levels then among those the one with the most vibrant colours and chances are you'll be looking at this tv. (Obviously this depends on content and the quality of your eyesight).

      • +2

Over vibrance is not a good thing either: https://youtu.be/rhto9MmiExE

    • +10

Blue comes directly from blue OLED backlight, whilst red and green are transformed from blue OLED backlight by QD material. So, all colours are emitted rather than transmitted.

      • So better than C2/CS? Lol

        • +3

LG’s WOLED cheat by using a white pixel to increase luminance. It’s never as true as bright and all-emissive RGB.

        • +2

I think the blacks are better on C2/CS but Samsung is brighter.

Also Samsung doesn’t have Dolby Vision (if that’s important) and I heard their implementation of VRR has some problems.

Also videos on YouTube talking about bending issues due to its thinness

          • @proudwanderer: .. hence, wait for second Gen reviews. Undoubtedly, some first Gen issues are resolved - pink tint, 4x HDMI 2.1, etc. DV omission can’t be resolved - Samsung’s on HDR10+ crusade.

            • @AlexF: Or - if need a TV now, maybe better to get the LG CS or C2 - the CS in particular have been going for about $1500 for a 55”

…..if brightness isn’t an issue of course.

They seem plenty bright from what I saw at JB - LG CS running the 4K HDR demo in a loop seemed pretty bright

              • +1

@proudwanderer: “Brightness” isn’t how bright whole screen is - it’s about how bright 10% window is in HDR.
LG’s desperate, hence MLA in new G3 models, but QD-OLED spectrum is inherently superior to WOLED. Samsung’s already won this (ie. brightness and colour saturation) round.
TV’s price is amortised over the 5-10 years you’ll own it. A few hundred dollars are irrelevant.

    • So.. I'm confused. QD-OLED is basically LED with OLED backlight?

      We're all confused!
It is not a backlight in the same way as QLED or other LCD TVs. Each pixel (subpixel?) is separately illuminated, hence the deep blacks in a darkened room.

    • +4

There’s no doubt QD-OLED is a superior technology, but it seems this first generation Samsung may be a bit flawed.

The Sony A95K which uses the same panel seems to have no shortage of accolades - albeit it is double the price.

Maybe that’s the reason this Samsung is so cheap.

  • $1768 if you have the $120 code. Down from $1888.

  • +8

Own this and the LG CS. In my opinion using both daily, if youre watching in the daylight pay the extra and get the samsung, picture qaulity is amazingand enhanced for daytime watching.

If in a darker room more often you can easily go the CS and be real happy and save $200, slightly worse picture overall but we are all bargain hunters so if not a picture fiend go the cheaper unless daytime watching is a must

    • +7

Also on the bend issues, mine wasnt bent at all. Can easily understand someone bending it when setting it up if you dont follow samsungs hand positions.

Also JB when i spoke to them befofe i took it said they had only had 5 issues of it and they were either due to the home delivery agent not transporting correctly or the customers. The box it comes in isnt as fat and heavily protected as the LG ones. So if youre careful with tramsporting you wont have an issue, you can also esily open at the store and check

      • Thanks @Thunder-Wombat, great summary 👍

      • Do they check the internals of each package in the warehouse before transporting the final leg

Wondering why original parcels often come pre-sliced and have duplicate packaging tape on top

      • +4

This has nothing to do with the bent panels. They are coming from the factory like that. Literally tens of thousands of them, If not more with people who dont notice or dont look for it. Of course a rep says its customers or delivery men doing it. Samsung have horrible QC and are doing everything to cover it up. Kinks that bad in the middle or edge of the screen would crack it if done by a person. They also have edges of the glass screen coming out of the panel. Nothing to do with handling of the screen!

  • Should the price be $1,888 instead of $1,793.60 before any voucher code?

    • Mod fell asleep…😅

  • +6

As I understand it, Samsung gave up on OLED some years ago, leaving LG as the only manufacture of OLED panels. Right?
Then they set about bamboozling the public with the QLED sales pitch, resulting in widespread confusion of consumers. Not that there's anything wrong with QLED - they are among the best LCD panels.

Now Samsung has re-entered the true LED market with these QD-OLED hybrids. It sounds very interesting, but I'm having a hard time finding some clear factual, technical information comparing them to other OLED TVs which use LG panels. Can anyone please link to a good source? What are the genuine pros and cons?

If you go direct to Samsung.com.au they also have it on sale for $1999. If you have another Samsung product ask chat for the 30% loyalty discount. That will bring this TV down to $1399.30, less 2.8% Shopback bringing the total to $1360.11 delivered. l bought the 75" QN85B Neo which had $1200 knocked off the RRP., less 30% loyalty, less 2.8% Shopback, total price delivered $2250.

    • +4

30% is only QLED. The OLED disocunt is 15%

      • I tried as well and they will only give 30% for the QLED.

        • They still giving out 30%?

      • +1

Yep just tried and got 15%

        • +3

It's still ~$140 cheaper tho, so good advice

  • +7

    No dolby vision but

    • +5

This is an absolute deal breaker for me on the new models. I'd love the 77 with a one connect as my next TV, particularly as I have TV's wall mounted and it'll allow me to easily access things later. But nope, Samsung has to be stubborn. No way I'd buy a TV without a standard now.

  • +2

This lineup is notorious on the OLED Gaming subreddit. So many issues.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/

    Good price, though.

    • +3

That sub is full of LG fanboys lol I own a. G2 and S95B and the Samsung trounces it in every possible way shape and form. Have had just as many problems with LG tvs in the past as well.

      • -2

But the LG has Dolby Vision and the Samsung doesn't - so that's a clear win for the LG right there.

  • -1

I don’t know how crapsung is still in business with so many sub par products. Stay away from them.

  • +1

Best price I can see for the 65" is $2294 using Samsung Education and 15% loyalty discount code.

    • Actually. Maybe add the $50 newsletter code too when buying from Samsung online?

    • +1

I got the 65 for $2290 from hardly normal during BD

    • +1

That's funny because loyalty discount doesn't apply to the education store only the regular store.

      • Bugger. Didn't realise that.

        • It's still cheaper on regular store eg S95B on education 1799 regular store 1699.

  • +1

I prefer my 55 s95b over my 42 c2 in terms of picture quality.

Samsung is a little glitchy , sometimes remote will be unresponsive and not work for a good 10 seconds , Samsung said they will send me a new remote, let’s see if that solves the problem. No bends on my s95b

  • I had JB Hi-Fi pricematch the 55" from the Samsung Store for $1699 ($1999 -15%) last week.

I told the guy that the 15% off code was for anybody who had a Samsung device and was obtainable super easy through chat/app. He was a bit skeptical but his floor manager said that was fine.

  • +2

I'm on my 3rd one. First one had cosmetic damage, second one had bends and warps, third one is great. I could have changed to C2 but I really like the S95B panel…

  • +6

    Pass…no Dolby Vision

  • This or QN95B?

    • If the room is usually brightly lit or has direct sun on screen, then QN95B. If not, then this.

  • I will stick with LG's OLED's for now.
