  • How do these portable SSD work?
You load your operating system on this?

Mainly used for portable (or additional) storage for your existing computer(s).

Connect it to your computer with the USB-C cable and it will see it as another drive.

    • They work like a normal portable HDD storage drive does.

    • Performance wise, T7 Shield is better (* has to be T7 Shield, not one of the other T7 variants). However, there is one aspect where this WD portable SSD is better. It appears to offer 5 years warranty, which is unusual for portable SSDs.

However, you've been an OZBer member long enough to know these SSD deals often get posted nowadays based on being the cheapest at the time of posting.

  • Can anyone please explain to me the difference between portable SSD vs Micro SD vs portable hard drive? Does it just go by speed in that order or anything else? Thanks heaps.

In a nutshell. Depening on price, you might get fast or slower speeds.

portable SSD - Fast (depending on price), large capacities, made out of memory chips.
micro SD - its a card, its as small as your thumb nail, you need a card reader. Used for phones, cameras etc, made out of memory chips.
Pendrives/thumb drives - Smaller to medium capacities, easier to carry, not as fast/reliable(YMMV) as portable SSD. I have had some fail after several use. (Technically these are also portable SSDs)
portable hard drives - spinning disk drives - cheaper, slower, your drop it - it might get damaged, large capacities.
