      This knife will keell…

  • Does anyone know how the "Black Collection" compares in terms of the steel? (Aside from the black colouring and wooden handles)
    https://tramontinaaustralia.com.au/products/tramontina-churr…

Black collection just says "dark stainless steel", while the deal ones mention "high carbon German stainless steel", without any further details (unless I missed it?).

Guessing it's actually the same steel, just with edgey darker colouring?

(Edit: link above is for the full set, but the knives are available for purchase separately.)

    • Likely depends on what sort of company they are.

It would make sense for it to be the exact same steel with a different finish, but they could be using the different finish to hide an inferior steel.

A boning knife is useful for trimming briskets or you could use a fish filleting knife (dangerously sharp), depends what you prefer.

This is good for slicing brisket when it's done, $23.72

Tramontina make really good products as far as my experience goes.

    • I like how Amazon suggests pairing that serrated knife with a honing steel (which they call a "sharpening steel"…?)

  • Thanks for bringing this up the other day. I didn't order in time, but had done my research by the time I saw Cheffields Providore in Warragul (Gippsland, Victoria) sells a slightly different version of this kit for $67.50.

Had all the same Tramontina knives, plus a brown Cape Grim branded knife case (faux leather, lined with a soft material and zippable) but no honing steel. Given I already have a steel, I was happy.

Haven't posted as a deal as they don't do online sales and it's in a non metro area.
