  • Available to existing Amex credit card holders?

    • Don't think so, apparently referral offers are on the low side 30K, max 55K so no different from what the normal website is showing.

      • +1

Thanks i just read that as well

      • Would this be available if I previously had an Amex Business card?

    • Nope

Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited, in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for the bonus Qantas Points offer

    • +2

Points used to be 110k last year. Ill pass.

  • +9

Damn deals getting worse. Got this card for 110,000 QF 14 months ago

    • Same. I had this for 110k points in april 2022.

  • +1

Damn… the travel credit is a bit meh. Would rather a reduction in annual fee.

    • +1

Also worth noting the travel credit can only be used on Qantas flights

      • And only via Amex Travel's website… Very restrictive

        • +1

Yep and Amex travel site is craaaap. Flights are way more expensive than just booking from Qantas direct. Currently trying to book flights to Japan and seeing a marked difference in prices

          • +1

@he11bent: If you call/contact they will match the Qantas flight price

          • @he11bent: For business it’s actually cheaper. Bought 8 one way tickets from AKL-BNE. $602 on the QF website. $532 on Amex Travel.

  • +5

For that fee that’s a very mediocre amount of points

    • 100k minimum would get people to bother with this

    • +1

Haha yeah they all piled on after The High Life grabbed the first affiliate link.

      • +1

Do you know how soon the $450 AmEx Travel Credit will be sent? AMEX web says we'll get the travel credit after we pay the annual fee which I believe after the first statement paid but I wanted to check if anyone has different experience

        • +2

I believe you have it straight away because the 450 fee is dedected out of your balance after the 1st statement.

So the credit is rewarded when you book a flight by deducting $450 from the toal flight cost. (The flight must be booked using amex credit card and on amex travel website).

That was my terms and condition.

  • Any of youse people actually made butter yet?

    • +2

churning cards gets you gravy, not butter

  • Anyone had luck with prorata refund of the annual fee on Amex cards?

    • I am also awaiting this answer.

    • Following

    • Not if you've used the benefit for the year

    • No. Amex don't do that.

    • +1

I accidentally forgot to cancel and they charged me $450 for annual fee. I called them up to cancel the card and they agreed to refund me the $450 since I didn't use the card/benefits yet. Took awhile but I ended up getting that money transfered back to me via a bank transfer (since I closed the card already).

      Call them up!

I last had this card for 120,000 points just more than 18 months ago so I am eligible.

Unfortunately I think this is as good as it's going to get in the short term!

  • I’ve been issues with a corporate Amex card in the last 18 months - does this stop me getting this in my personal capacity?

  • +1

hmm no minimum salary requirement. are they getting desparate?

    • +2

with a $450 annual fee, you're basically paying them for the QFF

I'd wager <50% of applicants would use the travel credit, due to usage restrictions / lack of travel plans / forgetfulness / laziness

      • This.

For example a return flight from Perth to Brisbane is like 750 or 800 return, so this flight credit is useless.

Only breaks even for a return flight from Perth to Geraldton which is a one hour flight.

I'm in contemplation land for next Qantas card so maybe Westpac for 70k or even ANZ for 110k is looking better than this Amex one.

        • +1

Wasn't always like this - flights are much more expensive at the moment. I've used AMEX credit many times to get me interstate and even overseas (e.g. cheap Jakarta flights or similar or even coveraging most of the flight).

The worst part of this deal is the big reduction in FF points - previoulsy have had this for 100-110k points with a 60k bonus referal. Lots of the cards now removing pro-rata and also doing the retain second year bonus points. Both card churner negatives.

          • +1

@Tock: I know. Whats this 2nd year retainment bonus points now 😄🤣🤣

No one is falling for that.

  • +2

I signed up for this card just under two weeks ago. Shame I only got the 55k deal, however I travel a lot for my work.

I managed to use the Qantas voucher already as I have upcoming flights. Booked on the Amex website, used the voucher and got work to reimburse me in cash for the voucher, flights and accommodation, effectively making my annual fee nil (or at least covered by my employer).

The way I see it, if you travel a lot or have a lot of monthly spend, it is a good card. If you just want the points look at NABs or another bank’s Qantas card offerings.

Also weirdly enough they gave me quite a large credit limit considering I’ve never held credit before, used it just to hit the $3k spending limit this month and not using it for other than rego and larger bills/flights.

  • +1

If i use a referral link will i get the 100,000 and the bonus from the referral?

    • There is no 100K offer at the moment, only 75K.

And The High Life gets the bonus from the referral, not you.

  • no minimum salary requirement? i thought it needs 65k?

  • do we earn points on bills/utilities?

  • is there a way to check if you are eligible if forgot how long ago i had an amex?

    • From yr credit score provider.

  • What's the minimum credit limit

  • -2

@adrianhughes1998 now card referrals also matched to get 75000QF + 25000QF for when holding over 12 months

Probably good to encourage OZB to use referral links which will benefit members in this community

  • This just seemed the least hassled option after seeing horror stories about Commbank and ANZ, applied last night and payslips uploaded, called Amex helpdesk this morning and was approved for a credit limit I chose (a somewhat lower limit).

Very happy with the smooth processing and good to be in camp Amex now.
