The account doesnt offer anything more

edit :there was polling created… i assume this is not associated job ?

    • They are classifying it as a gift and there is no requirement to give your TFN to them for this promotion :)

“Eligible Customers who make the Qualifying Purchases will receive a gift of $50 AUD (“Gift”)”

      • when you apply for the bank account, the first thing they would ask if you have TFN lol

        • +3

Re-read what I wrote and get back to me champ. Clearly said there is NO requirement to give a TFN to a bank lol x

        • +8

Submitting TFN is optional when opening a bank account. Withholding tax may apply to interest earned on your account if you don't provide one to a bank.

      • Suncorp is the first to report and on kid accounts withhold tax. But it can be claimed back, just relax!

        • Care to share how ?
I had kids Suncorp account and tax withheld when balance is over 10k

          • @lovepub: Accountants are there to help you with sorting out claims.
The rules change faster than the main stream of them can catch up.
Best is to ask your own accountant first before opening an account on a bait like $50.
For us taking a bait from them turned out to be an expensive exercise so there is a reason for Suncorp to sell its banking arm to ANZ.
Their insurance arm is having all liabilities moved overseas, a common trick.

      • +1

You are normally required to provide TFN to open the account (if it earns interest)

      • You must provide TFN for savings accounts or the maximum tax will be deducted.
Dont assume a $50 gift from a bank appearing in a bank account wont be taxable

Last offer was easier - only 5 transactions.
Get $25 When You Open Account and Spend $250 at Supermarkets @ Suncorp

Was existing customer - just added a new account then & shopped as usual. Received $25.
But can't be an Existing Customer this Deal

Was existing customer - just added a new account then & shopped as usual. Received $25.

Still an existing but a dormant customer. I totally forgot to close my account thinking I might need it once they re-open their new amazing rewards portal.

I assume I can open another Everyday / Transactions account for this without raising any red flags. LOL!

      EDIT: Answer here.

      • +4

You can split payment at coles. I have done it many times.

Split payment at Woolies or Coles.
Can meet 15 transaction criteria in 1 shop.

        • +1

How long does it take to split payments 15 times?

          • +1

@tabboy: Couple seconds each. Depends on machine. Have done 15 at a time.
Choose a quiet time for store & yourself.

I've been doing it for years, once a month for 5 x 1c transactions to qualify for ING Maximiser bonus interest.

            • @INFIDEL: what about just doing split payments on $200 of apple gift cards when they go on 20x at Coles in a day or two?

              • @quick-dry: The only scenario where you can do split payments when purchasing a gift card at a Coles self checkout is when you pay with cash first and then pay the rest on a card. If you press the Mixed Payment button, an error message will appear on the screen saying that split payments is not available and you will need to go to the service desk to complete payment.

You can go to any standard checkout (i.e. a checkout operated by a dedicated staff member) at Coles and do split payments when purchasing gift cards, but:

                • Staff will need to agree to do this and know how to do split payments. I have personally not come across a staff member who has not been happy to do split payments, but I’ve seen discussion on this site where a couple of people had this problem. Having said that, I’ve run into a couple of staff members recently who did not know how to do split payments…

                • The people in the queue behind you at the standard checkout with their large trolley full of groceries may not be happy that you are using your card 20 times, as you will end up tying up a standard checkout for a few minutes. It is not quick to do 20 split payments… The most I have done in one transaction at a Coles standard checkout is 13 different cards / gift cards; the staff member did not care, but the person behind me was not happy about it (and fair enough).

I also think that using a card 20 times in a short period of time at the same merchant is a terrible idea, because there is a good chance the card issuer will temporarily block the card after a few card payments. A bank’s fraud detection algorithm is very likely to see multiple payments in a short space of time at the same merchant as an indication that someone other than the authorised cardholder is trying to use your card. It reminds me of the one time I was at Maccas with a large group of my mates, and one of them agreed to pay for everyone’s meals, but ANZ blocked their card after 5 or 6 payments.

                • +1

@WookieMonster: thanks for the info on the split payments for gift cards, I haven't ever tried it.

I'm thankful that my cards haven't ever been done on multiple rapid payments (about 30 x dollar chocolate bars at individually at BP one night a few years ago was enough to stack their bonuses for some nice first classes with Etihad, but late at night so it wasn't while anyone else would be inconvenienced… and to be honest I was self-conscious about explaining the importance of ringing them up individually)

        • It's gonna be cringe af to do all 15 in 1 shop or see anyone do so….

5 transactions at a time would be my best effort.

          • @gosund: Don't think anyone said you have to do 15 split payments in 1 purchase! Just that split payments are one easy way to help qualify.

It's up to you. Take it easy - within 30 days of opening account make those 15 payments. But don't leave it too late as payment could still be pending & not qualify!

Have done 15 in 1 shop in past.
Wasn't a problem at quiet time at local Woolies. No one was waiting. Staff don't care.
Qualified for benefit in just 1 shop. Better than forgetting later & missing out. Someone is bound to forget!

(For years have done 5 x 1c split payments in 1 shop once a month - to qualify for ING bonus interest. Pay remainder by discounted gift cards. So am used to it.)

Any subscription payments made via the linked VISA debit card or Direct Debit and any BPay transactions.

Will paying / pre-paying your bills via your linked VISA debit card count?

      • It doesn't work for ING. So probably not.

        • That sucks, guess its time to close the suncorp savings account now. To make use of the offer next time

Watch out for the next offer.

            • @CyberMurning: That's if they actually close the account… I requested it a while back after I got the last bonus but they never actually closed it.

              • @MiscOzB: Same. They refused to close my account unless I gave a reason. The next message I sent was that I would contact AFCA to tell them of the refusal. Account was then closed.

Wasn't Suncorp Benefits replaced by Suncorp Rewards, a points-based credit card reward scheme?

  • So apart from 15x, buying gc is fine?

    • It should be fine. I am just not sure if buying via shopback or amazon would be considered or do we need to pay via Gpay or apple pay like on prezzee

      • Ah for something like this dont risk it just buy from prezzee.

Oh boy is the self checkout person going to be looking at me weird when I buy a bottle of milk split over 28 payments.

    • +2

If only there was a hack to mute the checkout machine while you run your 28 split payments. :)

    • +1

Does it take a long time to split payments that many times?

      • Ehh maybe like 5-10 seconds per transaction. Will probably just get misso to do hers at the same time on a different machine. $100 is $100.

  • Will transactions count if paid through paypal?

    • Purchase includes all transactions made on a linked VISA Debit card, payWave transactions, Apple Pay or Google Pay purchases made with the digital wallet online or in a physical store. Any subscription payments made via the linked VISA debit card or Direct Debit and any BPay transactions.

        • It’s a definite maybe

          • +1

@tharlow: Sorry you are just confusing me

            • @Rain Cloud: I have PayPal set to bill my 28 degrees credit card, and every PayPal transaction appears as a separate transaction on my credit card bill.

I imagine it will work the same with the debit card in this deal, so try a couple of transactions and check your account. If it doesn't show up as multiple transactions, you'll have to do the 15 transactions as over-the-counter transactions.

    Too much effort for $50.

  • Would Beem transactions count as qualifying?

    • +1

Typically they do so fingers crossed it does! Would be super easy to do this through Beem

    • +1

Did my 15 transactions in Beem, will see what happens.

      • What sort of transactions did you make?

Did 15 transactions with the Beem "transfer" but they all show up as EFTPOS WDL - hopefully counts as a "transactions made on a linked VISA Debit card"

        • yeah I just made transfers with it, I couldn't be bothered going in to a store to do it.
          hopefully it counts.
they did block my card after 4 transactions though… heh

  • I swear i read something about adding the digital card to google pay to start using it before receiving the card. Anyone know how to do this?

    • yes, you can add the digital card to your google pay while waiting for your physical card

      • How do you do that?

        • You use the Suncorp app

    • yes, just added it to Apple Pay after installing/logging in to their app.

      • I did this and tried to use the card at a few different stores about an hour later, got declined every time!

(I did transfer some money in, of course!)

        • I hadn't tried to use it, but it wasn't until the next day about 12 hours later that I got an SMS saying my account was setup so I'll have to go test it out today.

  • What kind of products worth 1c at Woolies or Coles?……

And if i made the 15 x1c transactions, then I still need to spend $199.85 to get the $50 is it correct?

    • +1

You choose split payment at the self checkout. It then asks you how much you want to pay/method of payment. Put in 0.01c and repeat as many times as desired or until you feel too many eyes looking at
      you.

Yes you would still need to hit the $200 spend.

      • +2

For me i do 1c then 2c then 3c so i know when to stop and pay the rest in one go

      • Oh i see. Do I need to hit $200 spend on the 15th transaction or can have as many as transactions (more than 15) as long as the total spending is over $200 in the end?

        • +1

Nah cant be that weird. It should say minimum 15 transactions so make 14x1c then on the 15th make sure total is 200 or more
