Stock up on Airbnb Gift cards now for a summers holiday!
Enjoy!
The payment part is broken. Did not work.
Is it me or is Airbnb extra expensive these days and even more than hotel / motels?
agree, was literally looking last night. Very expensive.
I think it is only good these days if you want to look for fancy or higher end boutique places
I used them before and most people are cool….. but have had host cancel last minute and ruin plans
It's like the gift cards mean nothing because prices are jacked higher
Yes. Airbnb lost its charm quite awhile back, it sucks now. Very overpriced.
I think it depends what location you are looking at. I still use Airbnb in Asia and get some good deals.
True - I did use it in Bali. For Europe, NZ, the US or Aus I never use it anymore (or very, very rarely).
@dinglejerry: I used it all over Europe + asia + US. If you get in early enough (8mths in my case) there's good deals. I compared everything I booked and the prices were comparable to shitty hotels/hostels but a much bigger better place. Essentially getting entire houses or apts (no share) in good locations for approx $80/night avg in europe. Amex deal (and this one) is just gravy.
@gimme: That's great, but I must say, that's not the common experience I hear about airbnb nowadays tbh.
@dinglejerry: It takes a fair bit of effort to do it and maybe a lot of people just don't have the time or patience. I literally booked 20+ last week. NY and London were the hardest but not easy to find reasonably priced accom in those cities anyway. My budget is $100 max per day for standalone properties in central locations. Came well under overall thanks to Asia and some places in Europe. Only book 100% refundable too these days.
PS: It's a piece of cake compared to doing RTW business trip on Qantas points which we managed to do after about 10hrs of f$^%% around with the truly horrible qantas website.
I was an airbnb fan this year. Spent 3k in GC for stays overseas.
I no longer wish to use it because its becoming too expensive.
Could airbnb GC purchased in AU be used overseas? And how's currency conversion work?
Yes. The credit is loaded into your account from the GCs. In my case i had about 2k+ credit loaded into my account when i bought GC from shopback.
Airbnb automatically concerted the money to COP (colombian pesos) the first week I entered the country. Conversion rate was good and quite accurate.
I paid all my bookings using the in app credit i had. Also i made two refu ds and the credit was applied back to my account with 3days.
Even if the currency does not convert automatically, you can still pay via Aud through the in app credit you have.
@shegeloaf: Thanks a lot for the detailed info
Worked with paypal. Thanks OP.

Your card hasn’t been charged. Please try again later.
It appears I cannot use a Woolworths gift card as payment - bummer!
Presuming it's not possible to buy more than 5 cards?
maybe you can with a separate account (or get someone else to do it)
I just placed an order for 5 cards and checked out. Logged back in a repeated. Got my 10 cards almost immediately in 2 emails, same account.
Luxury Escapes stacks with CITI 10% off offer?
keen to know this too
First property I tried said the promo code isn't applicable. Second property I tried said promo code has reached cap.
The promo code and gift cards are separate fields, so it should theoretically work, but I couldn't get the citi code working.
There's always the risk that the stack wont work, because you're not paying with the citi card.
Paypal payment failed twice now
Credit card payment failed. No problem with PayPal.
Failed with Paypal but card was still charged. Got an email saying refund will take up to 10 days. Great.
Paypal failed
Does AirBNB allow payments:
stacking gift-card, ie. more than 1 gift-card ?
part payments, ie. some gift-cards,
and remaining with Credit Card / PayPal ?
I just used the gift cards for a property. The answers to your questions are yes and yes.
Yes - just be careful you can't use a gift card in the middle of a transaction series. Like when you've made the initial payment and there are 2 payments left
You can do this, just closer to the payment date for the subsequent transaction. I haven't had any issues applying the GC balance this way.
Worked on PayPal for me. Bought $1000 worth
AirBNB no longer 10% off?
Looks that way
In the time it I took to sign up, they were gone.
OOS
Thanks got 2.5k of airbnb. I basically live in Airbnbs at the mo.
For fun, or necessity?
I hope it's for fun, cause that'd be amazing to be on holiday all the time.
I just don't have a fixed address and travel , currently in Europe. Passive income / digital nomad
So not really in holiday but life is very free. But freedom is less fun when there's too much 😉. Structure and stability is important so I'll return to Aus maybe 2023
Not working for me. Got instant refund.
