1TB variant of the Rocket 4.0 that went quickly OOS in the last deal
Even better deal than the 512GB as this 1TB model has significantly faster sequential write speed + random read/write throughput

Very nice budget drive
Gen 4 + DRAM is a rare combination at this price
Tier 1 usage, will work with PS5 but add a heatsink

NVMe Tier Specs Recommended Usage
1 TLC + DRAM Main system drive for power users
1X TLC + DRAM + Gen 4 PS5 expansion drive (if heatsink not bundled, adding heatsink highly recommended)
2 TLC + no DRAM Main system drive for everyday users
3 QLC + DRAM Secondary storage, can be main system drive in very cheap build
4 QLC + no DRAM Secondary bulk storage only

Any suggestions on the heatsink for PS5?

    • Search for the Simplecom SA110

Thanks OP nabbed one :) hopefully it doesn't get lost by Aramex like my PSU did !!

    • +4

      Aramex - fark they're bad.

      • I send my parcel to Parcel Locker (and whatever Amazon equivalent is) just to not deal with the posties and Aramex

    • WTH? Amazon sends with aramex now?? I'd rather cancel my order rather than dealing with Aramex

  • Where purpose heatsank?

  • Note comment from linked previous deal:

“Just be aware that Sabrent seems to expect to you send a faulty drive back to the US which would make me think twice.”

      amazon review stats the same

I ordered this item over a year ago and while I was pleased with the performance of the item itself, just before it was a year old the device failed completely. Windows could not see the device. BIOS however, could see that the device was attached, but was reporting a total available size of zero. When booted into a Linux live CD the nvmectl could see the device but all SMART stats were reporting zero.

Amazon would not support me in asking for a return and fobbed me off to Sabrent support.

Support identified this as a controller failure. However when attempting to claim on the warranty, they required me to air-ship the device back to the US at my own expense. Due to this being a controller failure, the data is effectively present in entirety on the device, just inaccessible. This makes me very uncomfortable as I am effectively shipping 1tb of my personal data to a country with substandard personal privacy.

I would recommend that anyone ordering outside the US look elsewhere until Sabrent updates their support procedures to be more consumer friendly.

That's just not legal within the first 2 years (the standard expected time a product like this works fine) and there's no reason Store4PC-AU (the seller here) can't accept a warranty claim, right?

        • It varies on the brand and the retailer. Within the first year, retailers generally will do it. After the first year, it depends.

          • If the SSD brand does have an RMA department that has a process to follow (Samsung, WD, Seagate for example), then retailer "may" still assist, but the retailer is merely the middleman. The advantage is that you don't need to fork out the postage to the RMA department (but still need to send the faulty SSD to the retailer). The disadvantage is there can be additional delay (because the store will batch out warranty requests) and send maybe once or twice a week.
          • If the SSD brand does not have an RMA department that deals with end customers directly (Kingston, Gigabyte (for SSDs)), then retailer manages the RMA on behalf of the SSD company after the 1 year.

Generally, this is an issue with buying SSDs online. The warranty repair / replacement process is generally more tedious and online stores are more likely to push you directly to SSD brand's own RMA department whenever possible.

Sweet, was a bit salty about missing the 500gb one but this will replace my trusty MX500 that has been main drive for far too long.

  • time flies. still remember I spent the same amount for my first SSD that has 60GB only

Time flies. Still remember people buying 60GB SSDs for $129.99 were like: still remember I spent the same amount for my first HDD that has 10MB only.

For people intend to buy this SSD, here are things you need to note:

    • This SSD (and every Phison E16 based SSD) is now officially below PS5 specs. PS5 used to use a dumb zero fill read test where E16 SSDs can easily cheat, but not anymore. You can still use it with PS5 since it only mandates PCIe gen 4 requirement (not the minimum speed requirement).
    • Like all E16 SSDs, after the SLC cache runs out, its sustained write is rather ordinary, this one drops to 540MBps.
    • Tom's Hardware listed not registering with Sabrent would limit the SSD warranty to 1 year as a con, so do check if that's still the case.
    • Find out the rules for Sabrent SSD warranty in Australia (when purchased from an "online" AU seller) - whether you need to send the SSD to Sabrent or it is managed by the retailer (especially after 1 year).

Good to see price drops on SSDs.

  • Coming up as $221 ..
