Thought i would share this sony xm5 deal at JB HiFi, seems too good to be true. Proabably a pricing error with their deal of the xm4 but worth a shot/try your luck. Make sure to use the discount code.
Unfortunately I bought mine full retail price :( earlier last week. So i have not tried.
Technically not much difference between xm4 & 5 but i really like the look of Xm5 as compared to the previous gen models

These are a giant step down in design. They cant twist and fold flat like the old ones. If you actually commute with something like this, it can't fold neatly into a laptop bag at either end. On the plus side the previous, superior, models now cheaper.
And neither have aptX like the XM3s, so they really keep getting worse IMO. I still rate the XM3s, hard to find now. All it's really missing is dual connection but the newer versions can't do LDAC with dual connection anyway so it's no great loss.
I have the xm3 but one of the main benefit for sony products is being able to use ldac instead of qualcomm aptx. Both have similar latency and power consumption so use ldac everytime. And literally every phone since android 8/9 has ldac support so unless you're using an old dinosaur, aptx has no benefit to you.
I use LDAC on my phone but also use devices other than phones, such as bluetooth transmitter for TV, stereo, game consoles etc. Most bluetooth transmitters don't support LDAC, unless you get an expensive one like the Fiio BTA30. LDAC is amazing for HD audio but aptX does have lower latency for watching TV, playing games etc. The reason I like the XM3s is you have the option for both, which was removed in the XM4 and XM5s for licensing reasons, Sony just didn't want to pay Qualcomm for it anymore.
Each to their own, Plenty of reviews videos articles with the pros and cons of both.
The conclusion is the xm5 are improved in sound (more natural) and microphonics, the materials feel slightly cheaper (recycled etc), bit lighter, but not really much in it, about 15% better. Up to the individual which style they like, foldable or lay flat (bit more delicate but the case is still good and doesn't really take up much more room as flatter. Depends how rough you are and if you use the case.
If you want a bit better sound look at the
Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2, fairly expensive though and some features dont work as well as the Sony.

I'm sorry, but this is unmitigated bullshit. Particularly with a case. The earphones on the earlier versions don't just rotate flat, they fold inwards and are almost contained in the U-footprint of the headband itself. It's less than half the space, perfect for a laptop side pocket.
Microphonics isn't an issue. They don't rub on anything.

Microphones - referring to better call quality.
They don't roll into a ball but fold down nicely. the xm5 are fine for the drawer at work sitting in the case. It's pretty protective too if travelling.
Just get whatever suits, .

Travelling? Yes. The one thing I want to do when travelling is have a device that takes up several more cubic metres of precious bag space than it needs to.

No idea, Plenty of in ears that take up way less space..
@G-rig: I'm not angry. I don't have an emotional investment in you being wrong. There aren't any in-ears that are even as remotely as effective at noise cancelling, I've found. Though with some of the custom foam comply tips, they come close.

Yeah I bought these and AirPod pros. Returning the Sony. AirPods just as good sound wise, amazing bass, better noise cancellation and microphone imo. Plus prefer the form factor over having to carry and wear headphones.
I prefer to keep my ears warm during the winter.

I have the momentum 4. Sound is beautiful but noice cancellation is a big step down. I’m looking at going back to the xm5s.

Same here - kicking myself I didn’t jump on this earlier but then I would have to return the eBsy ones still unopened. Ok so I lost $50 this time round - I’ll pick it up on another deal. But you sort of hate your self but when retail is still $499 or higher for the MX5 anyone who got them for $400 or less got a great deal. I suspect they will be back on sale sometime after Boxing Day but $350 seems way too cheap. I now have MX4 and MX5 but since haven’t opened MX5 dunno what to do. MX4 we’re fine for what I wanted.
But can’t find any H/P which support aptX HD and that’s supposed be the best out. Momentum 4 had it but none of the cheaper Sennheiser have it. There’s a massive list on Qualcomm’s site but more ear buds than H/P.
Anyone else help for next time this deal hits and should I return my $400 XM5 for the hope that someone discounts to $360 or just live with it?

I picked mine up.
XM5 less battery life (-10hrs!) but better for phone calls and can't fold them. Gone for the xm5 because of phonecalls.
Battery 30h plus on mine, listening to music. Plenty of cheaper better options around if only want to make phone calls. Jabra Evolve / Elite etc.
@moleski - 350$ is a steal considering RRP $550 or thereabouts. inflation is also a factor.
There is a lot more tech in the current headphones (noise cancelling microphonics etc) than your 10yo dumb pair of Sony DJ headphones).
I remember the days when the Sony headphones regular RRP was $350, now it's a "steal" price. What a shame
For those who have ears, consider trying these on before buying :) When you compare the QC45 and these side by side it's as though the Sony designers forgot that ears stick out, the ear cups are very shallow and not angled like the Bose headphones
