It's not a bad deal for a mild gaming laptop.

Think the older deal was better.
have been at this price a few months already theres a reason why it wasnt sold out compared to the slightly more expensive 3050 variants:
low colour gamut screen ~62.5% srgb only compared to the ~100% srgb ones on the other deals, likely worse response times and other stuff as well
8gb ram comes in two 4gb sticks, so an upgrading into 16gb will see you needing to replace both stock ram instead of having to upgrade with a single 8gb ram, this will needed to be factored into the cost
5500m is old and no amount of FSR will save its pitful performance unlike 3050 where DLSS can be the saving grace in newer titles even if the 4gb vram is a big limitation in many others
like, 256gb storage in 2022, taking away windows & preinstalled bloadware lucky to get 200 gigs left here, will need a storage upgrade extremely early on, again needed to be factored into the cost here

OTOH, its dual channel with 2x4gb.
yeah you are right, but lets not kid ourselves that 8gb really isnt much for a gaming rig in 2022 that one would almost certainly want to go for an upgrade.
It's a 800 gaming laptop though, 8gb is good enough for older titles.
