$758 if using 15% off cards from Coles.

Almost back to the pre-covid glory days with that price!

      • What were the pre covid prices? This deal could actually be lower in real dollars (adjusted for inflation)

        • I remember when it was like $650? and I thought it was too expensive then

        • $632
That was in 2019, way before covid existed

      • +1

        It was $726 in July.

Are the cards still available for purchase?

I don't think you need any of that stuff, just a really really good grinder

      • +3

I beg to differ, things like a WDT tool and a spring loaded tamp have vastly improved my shots. Getting more crema with the bottomless portafilter too

        • +2

WDT might do a little but most other things beside good grinder is kinda sneak oil.

        • +1

Wdt tool = wine cork with sewing needles. Not needed with a good grinder…. I find it harder to fine tune with anything but a regular tamper, each to their own.

A bottomless portafilter won't do anything for Crema, it's just a tool to help you view the extraction better.

          • @TEER3X: What about a tamping mat? Without one I’m not sure how you’d consistently tamp to create a completely flat puck. Folding a tea towel over a few times and doing it on that is inconsistent at best for mine.

            • +1

@The Quote Train: There's some techniques or tricks.

Some tamps automatically level. E.g. the Normcore V4.
Otherwise you can use your fingers to feel the levelness of the tamp against the rim of the basket before you press down. Practice makes perfect.

            • @The Quote Train: Only needed for a bottomless portafilter, and a bottomless portafilter isn't needed

          • +1

@TEER3X: You normally need finer needles than what sewing needles are. Otherwise you may as well use a dowel.

            • -1

@OzBrogains: If you have a quality grinder with ACE you do not need fine needle or dowel.

              • @huntabargain: Nope. I have a Eureka Specialita and Niche Zero and WDT helps in puck prep. I was kidding about the dowel btw.

                • @OzBrogains: If someone just starting their coffee journey and are buying BDB from this deal for $8xx I don't see the logic to tell them to buy $60 device that is not necessary, nor to buy bottomless PF for +$120 or scale worth +$350. Then they go and cheap out on buying the stuff that matter the most ie quality grinder and freshly roasted beans. When I done my Barista course few years ago they never mentioned any of these wasteful gadgets. And I don't see any professional Barista in any coffee shop that use these gadgets.
But if you feel better to have these gadgets, then nothing wrong with that. However for someone with both Eureka Secialita and NZ then I would have serious thought on the deep rabbit hole you are falling into!

                  • @huntabargain: A WDT tool costs $18. https://www.amazon.com.au/Espresso-Stirrer-Carving-Distribut…. You could make one for $5 using acupuncture needles from eBay if you want.

Of course no cafe will use it. They would be so stupid to because it would add valuable time to their workflow. If you were a barista working at a cafe with 20 orders to pull, would you really use a WDT tool on each one? Of course not. But when you have the luxury of time when pulling one shot at home, you can take as long as you need to try get it perfect.

You are right about the rabbit hole that I'm in but.

            • +1

@OzBrogains: I found a video on YT how to DIY using 3D printer needles, those are very thin and does job well.

            • +1

@OzBrogains: I just use a cork with 6 acupuncture needles, at 0.3mm pretty sure they're fine enough

              • @alt: What do the needles do/ for?

                • @tunzafun001: it's for a puck preparation technique called the Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) - basically uses thin needles to break up clumps and evenly mix your ground coffee as evenly as possible so that once you tamp, the density throughout the puck is more consistent. Here's a video from James Hoffman where he discusses puck prep and tools.

        • What bottomless portafilter did you get? I've read a about a few but seem to not fit so snugly.

        • +1

Spring loaded tamp is definitely NOT required! Tamp pressure does very little.

          • @thedriver: Partly true. Tamping too little has an undesirable effect on the extraction. Tamping too much (past a certain point) does nothing other than potentially injure your body.

    • Don't waste your money or advice people to buy unnecessary accessories.
Why would anyone buy > $350 scale with timer, if the machine comes with timer anyway.

      • +2

I have a $16 scale with timer from eBay, it measures to 0.1g and works beautifully

        • Do you have a link to it?

          • @kiitos: Just look up any 0.1g scale on eBay / aliexpress, there are dozens of different ones for under 20 bucks.

          • +1

@kiitos: The listing is gone, but it looks like this
            https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/115290823161

Just find the cheapest one that looks exactly the same.

Also, just use your phone's stopwatch if you don't want one with a timer

    • I’d have to agree with some acessories. The WDT tool, tamper, grinder and a set of scales are definitely key to having a good consistent coffee routine. The bean jars and such can be worried about later, as most coffee roasters provide beans in a one way valve bag, so storage is sorted on the cheap for that area, if they don’t however, then yes I would suggest a coffee jar( airscape canisters)

      • You don't need a one way valve to store coffee, unless you roasted it yourself.

        • You need a one way valve if you’re buying roasted coffee and it doesn’t come in a bag with a one way valve, have a read of my comment again. I also roast myself so I have several containers

  • +4

Wish I didn't buy a bunch of crap this year that I didn't need, would've been able to justify the dual boiler. Excellent machine.

        • 2 x 250g P&R Porter St Coffee Beans
        • Live Roaster Online Demonstration

        • Shoot, yeh I was looking at the bundle with the grinder. Fixing the description rn, cheers

  • Amazing machine from a coffee quality prospective but not at all reliable for a lot of people.

    • +2

I've got 6 years out of mine before it blew the safety switch, spent some time 3 mths ago replacing all the O rings, giving it a descale and it's as good as new. (and that's on filtered Adelaide water). Great bang for buck with lotsa www and Youtube support but I'm tempted by one of those shiny, sexy Italian gizmos.

      • My next one from the BDB will be the La Marzocco Linea Mini or one of the e61 groupheads.

        • Been looking at the Lelit or profitec :(

      • 10/10 would recommend sexy Italian machines. I went from BDB to ecm synchronika, night and day difference in a few areas ( steam power, noise, build quality) everything else is relatively just similar. If you pair either with a good grinder, you will get consistent coffee coming out

      • I got 10 years our of mine (it was a BES900 OG model) with servicing. I then picked up a 920 about a year ago. No doubt when this one finally gives up the ghost, I'll buy another, exactly the same.

    • Very easy to self service!

  • +2

You can also sanitizer your hands using the steam wand as shown in the photo.

  • Damn i bought the oracle for $1720 at the good guys. This is cheaper at $1685. Wish i had used the credit card for the purchase and not the giftcards at 3%.

  • I almost bought this but checked the dimensions and realised how big it is 41cm wide!
Is there any other models similar that aren’t so big? I don’t need built in grinder

    • Breville Barista Express is what I have and it is narrower. I also have Baratza Sette 270wi grinder.
Obviously BES920 is better because of dual boiler and other bits, but Express still does job well (for a price)

    • I’d suggest breville bambino, but you will still need a grinder. It is a 54mm portafilter compared to this one being 58, but if it’s not a huge concern then the size of this is like 1/3 of the bdb size

    • No, nothing comes close in this price bracket.

Make some room, it's worth it.

    • Just thought I'd add to the comments above that Dual Boiler is really only worth it if you're planning to make a good number of milk drinks, otherwise the second boiler is a bit redundant and you can go for single boiler (maybe a HX - Heat Exchanger if you've got the dosh) to give you more options in terms of a smaller machine.

    • Breville Barista Pro (includes built in grinder too).

  • does the fire stick support Kayo?

  • Does anyone know if the dual boiler Breville is compatible with ESE? I googled but couldn't find an answer, which I'm guessing means no, but I thought I'd check with anyone who owns it.

    • is ESE type of pods? If so, its not compatible. I believe the dual thermoblock Sunbeam Cafe series can use pods.

    • -1

Thats like asking if this A5 japanese wagyu beef works with heinz ketchup

      • -1

ESE are not the same as capsules like Nespresso or the like.

    • It's an espresso machine lol…

  • Anyone know how long this sale is on for? I'm having trouble purchasing the one from TGG with giftcards - have confirmed with TGG sales staff that their price ends tonight. Starting to panic..

    • Today only…

  • +1

    Thanks!
I bought Oracle with added extra care service today!

If I had bought a 15% off GC at Coles yesterday, I could have saved a little more. But I forgot that…😫

However, stack with 10% off GC at Woolworths was also made good price, I think!

  • +2

Grabbed one from my local store this afternoon. $758 using the 15% off Ultimate GCs is no-brainer. Got the Eureka Mignon Specialita coffee grinder from a deal posted here in May for $516 delivered, so it's time to stop buying store bought coffee. :)

    • I have the Specialita as well. Good grinder.
