Ok so they got me to return my order from the start of the week and place a new order to save the $9. Refused to just refund the difference. The second order arrived a couple of hours before I made it to the post office today to return Mondays order. Mind is boggling.
It's a hassle step to put people off/anti-exploitation.
Very early on, you could just get the difference credited (if the order was within a short period of time, at discretion of the chat employee). Like all good things, people abused the (profanity) out of it, and now we have this hassle step.

@eagerfisherman: That's ok but it seems experiences vary. Another person was able to get $10 refunded AND the $10 gift card deal last week without having to return the item they bought before the gift card promotion even started, let alone before the individual item got reduced!
