In this case I stand correct..

Willing to trade my kidney for x2.

  • +1

wait for AMD. or buy a cheap 3080 or 3090.

    • +4

I think you mean an MSRP 3080/3090 after 2 years lol

      • i had a mate grab a 3080 for $900. it hurts… I paid $1750 for mine. rip

        • +2

Haha compared to $1750 it's a huge bargain but I still think for such rapidly changing tech we shouldn't be paying MSRP for last gen tech

        • i paid 1139 in 2020, not everyone overpaid

  • +1

I hate that for a moment, I considered this.

Waiting for 7900XTX suggest others do too, if you were always/only buy Nvidia, then this may be a good deal, for you. Hoping good AIB 7900XTX models come out $1000AUD less than this.

    • This is the dream and a $1500-1600 7900xr

      • I'm serious, that's what I believe they'll come to be on release, there may be LC versions over $2k, but I'm expecting reference models for $1650-1700, so $100-200 for a premium cooler sounds right to me. Hope I'm right.

        • AMD already announced $999USD pricing, using currency conversion on todays rates that's $1475AUD - if we don't get this card here for $1700AUD… we should be pretty upset.

          • +1

@aaronmr: I'm using $1150 USD in my currency converter to be a rough estimate, slight margin + GST, so, that rounds up to $1700AUD, the extra margin is for unfavourable currency fluctuations for AUD vs USD, if the AUD falls further they're still covered.

  • $3000 for a "premium" product and they give you that daggy as$ cheap cooler

  • +1

For $2879 you can buy a reclining leather couch and sit in your own gold class.. The world has gone mad

    • +2

For $2879, I could build an entire gaming setup for amazing 1080-1440p gaming for almost all AAA releases these days.

      I'm talking from scratch -
      PC
      Monitor
      Keyboard
      Mouse
      Headset

  • -2

what a bad shabby deal. $1000+ for a graphic card !!

  • +1

If I am going to spend 3k I won’t mind pay little extra getting nicer ones

  • +1

    Can this run Crysis?

    • +1

might have to buy 2 and nvlink them for that bro

  • I will pass this cause of 2 reasons
    1. Cant afford it
    2. Still need one last kidney

  • is this a deal ?

  • Ahhh I'll stick to my trusty TnT 2. Oh and can you run the 40series in SLI?

    • +1

Not in SLI but you can still run multiple cards

  • +1

Hope amd steals the market in two weeks,
    Fingers crossed

    This is just ridiculous price

    • +1

AMD ain't stealing shyte. Even those cards will be in demand and aib and retailers will price them higher.

      • Most likely release smaller quantities at higher price than last gen to justify "oh look the demand"

        lets hope not

        • History repeats again. They know consumers are ready to spend.

          • @[Deactivated]: Well the CPU side did show something else. But then both vendors were ready to compete.

In the GPU space however, if one vendor decides to up prices the other usually follows (similar to the smartphone space where Samsung just follows Apple - but discounts them massively later on).

I really wish AMD wouldve released a 4090 competitor at that pricing range, wouldve been so much better.

            • +1

@kehuehue: Agreed. I totally see Radeons going on sale an year down the line probably below 1500 for the XTX. As long as TSMC still delivers to US and not occupied by China.

    • for gaming amd is always the better option, the problem is that's their focus, not much attention on productivity, making small steps while nvidia is literally leaping, I don't have a favourite corporation of the three (no one should but they do) I just buy whatever i feel is the best option in circumstances

  • +2

    Madness

  • -5

Far out so many butt hurt people still not understanding that this is now normal. This sort of silicon is the best node TSMC produce and expensive as to produce.. Totally a luxury item…top tier GPUs are always up there.. The only reason AMDs MSRP is lower is because they are on a bigger node.

Plenty of choice out there with older gen, if you were hoping for $1000 halo cards not gonna happen.

    • +1

Have you calculated the die size to wafer cost for a 4080 or 4090. No, these are inflated prices.

      • +1

Snookered is pretending to know what he's talking about or he's a gpu producers shill, either way you're not wrong.

      • This deal is a price of the 4090 I wasn't commenting on the 4080s overpricing..

        • +1

I did mention OR 4090. What ever die size cost that got increased due to moving to TSMC got taken care by increasing 100$ over 3090 MSRP. Its not more than that increase. Pretty sure there is very serious profit even for the 4090. Any youtuber who says 4090 costs are high without breaking it down is speaking from his A$$

  • +1

let me buy a 1000w power supply and a massive case first, and maybe a small generator to provide enough power to the card first. lol

  • +2

Someone please hold my hands so I don't purchase this. Owner of a 4k 120hz screen here :P

    • +1

Get one I'm loving mine got the Galax sg version - I've only got a 4k 60hz screen since I just game casually at 60fps anyway and the card only draws 120-150w gaming 37- 43 degrees.

Got mine running at stock clock speeds with 90% power draw. Using only 3 of the 4 connectors.

      big upgrade from a 2600k + 980ti hah.

      • Which games do you play?

        • +2

BFV and misc random titles, KCD, gears 5, forza 5, dirt rally 2, some emulation for Nintendo wii u and switch titles.

During emulation the fans don't even spin lol.

Competitive shooters where you turn off vsync and run max fps the card draws about 340-360w (at stock it would do 425-440w for the same frame rates not worth it imo) temps overall are very low it's impressive.

The card's overkill for what I need - definitely didn't need it.

    • Picture how you'll feel in a few months if prices settle back to normal and these are going for a grand less.

Most miners still haven't sold their cards, and AMDs offerings aren't even out yet.

4090s aren't going up in price, and big discounts are more likely than small ones.

      • Imagine if you wait to sell your older gen GPU when 'sales' and time pass???? i.e. second hand 3090 today sells for $1500ish, when 4090s go lower whats your 3090 worth then too - $700?

Its all relative… everyone on ozbargain feels they need to tell others how to spend their money.

  • -1

Bought 6800 in Oct for around $690, I though it was expensive but it is more expensive now.

  • +1

Screw house deposit, I bought 20 of these.

    • +1

You could make a reasonable fort from the boxes - so you're still getting accommodation. Win win.

  • Surprised this deal hasn't been OzBargained yet.

  • Can you afford the best golf memberships? Millions a year? no
Can you afford the best cars? millions of dollars? no
Can you afford the best holidays? Millions of dollars? no
Can you afford the best houses? Millions of dollars? no

But you can afford the best graphics card which is only thousands of dollars that a billionaire uses.

So be happy with what you got before they make high end graphics card $50k + which they probably will one day.

    • I imagine when graphics become ultra realistic (indistinguishable from reality)

      • We're almost there, UE5.2 VR lighting effects are almost indistinguishable from reality.
But once you look at the textures and shadows, something feels slightly off. Exciting times.

    • Yeah I'm sure they'll make enough money to stay in business and totally won't be crushed by the competition if they sell GPUs for more than new cars cost…

  • +4

lol id rather die than buy this overpriced shit

    • +1

      Same here. Garbage prices.

  • +2

Imagine explaining this purchase to the missus.

    You spent $2,900 on WHAT!?

    • to play games :D

      • -1

Not even that. There are literally zero games this can play that a $350 GPU can't.

You'd be showing them the gameplay and explaining how the extra $2500 makes it look very slightly, subtly better, while she, baffled, stares at you like the moron you are.

  • +2

I see Nvidia is trying to train our brains to just accept overpriced gpus. What a scummy company.

  • +3

Seems Nvidia feels people will pay scalper prices so they might as well cut them out of the equation and keep all the profits.

  • +1

Why would anyone buy this? Unless they want to burn money. It'll be a 2080ti in 2 years and the better silicon is already being reserved for 4090ti

Whole thing is stupid as all hell

  • Ended up picking one of these up from evatech. Cheaper shipping to perth for $16 and bought an alphacool eisblock off aliexpress to watercool it 👌

PCB for this model looks like its a reference design which is a plus when watercooling and similar vrm design to 4090's in the sub $3.3k price range.

    • I got the Gigabyte Gaming OC from Centrecom for $2,999. Planning to get a waterblock too, but not bykski this time. Probably EK, pricey tho relatively to the bykski.

Are Alphacools pads good? Bykski ones leaked oil on my 3080s

      • had i known about that deal i would have got that too since the vrm has an extra 2 phases from standard reference design from the top of my head. Also being able to get the ek block for it is a bonus!

Havent recieved the block yet but alphacool are usually pretty good and the 40 series of blocks look like good value for money. not hard to pick up replacement pads if its a concern either.

bykski just seem to just rush out a general one size fits all design instead of something designed for the pcb
