  • Water source: tank water
What does this mean? It can only be used with a water tank?

Cartridges can be had off eBay for less than $10 each…

This system is better and cheaper:

Or if you don't want a dual filter this is still cheaper:

    • I'd go for an on bench only if renting. Otherwise put it under the sink and just have a tap on the sink. The twin filter ones are a good compromise between the too simple (one filter), or one expensive filter and the fancy 'I had a medical issue, now I don't trust BIG water' uber 5 stage type.

Why two? To put it simply, one filters stuff you can see, might make the water dirty or taste bad. The other filters stuff that you can't see, but could make you sick.

You can buy the filters in bulk and it works out really cheap (I bought 10 years worth last time).

      • Yeah personally I have a triple under the sink filter system. I think it cost me about $90 off eBay

      • How difficult are these to install yourself? Assuming no/very little current plumbing knowledge

        • Easy. Comes with instructions. Just need a wrench

        • You have to drill through the bench (or sink) and put a T adaptor (often supplied, but you need to work out if it suits your pipes) in the cold water pipe. So just needs a drill and some big spanners.

          • @wfdTamar: Oh good point.. Forgot about the drilling which was surprisingly difficult going through stainless steel.

    • yes i use this system. its so good.

      change filter out every 6months/year

      twist and turn

      • which exact filter do you buy to replace? I have this system at home too

  • Cartridges can be had off eBay for less than $10 each

  • I've always just used a single standard 0.5 micron carbon block filter on the kitchen tap. If the water in your area is generally good already is there any need of going to a dual or triple stage unit? or is that just overkill and waste of money?

    • I have a triple stage filter.. The first filter has a clear container so you can see how much crap it's filtering out. It's amazing how dirty tap water is.

I've also conducted a chemical test on plain tap water vs the filtered water. It does make a difference.
      Chlorine is removed.
pH levels go from about 7.0 to 8.0.

Running cost is really only about $30/year so I don't think that's a waste of money

      • Ok I guess what I meant is it much better than just the single 0.5 micron carbon block filter, which is supposed to do that as well. Have you tested single vs triple at all?

        • Nah I haven't.

My old place had a dual filter and I upgraded to a triple filter when I moved.

      • Have you got a link to your model?
