I purchased a 12v 100Ah Lifepo4 battery from them recently, shipping and packing was good, no complaints there…

The capacity is good as you'd expect from new cells, testing down to a conservative 12v and charging up to 13.8v I'm getting dead on 100Ah out of it, I'm more than happy with that…

I'm not too happy with the Daly BMS they use though, I wish I had done more research into BMS's before purchasing, it's better than the real cheapo ones but there's certainly much better BMS's out there….

The BMS seems to be a 2-ish year old discontinued model and there's no real manual around for them so you have to Google anything you want to know… One big complaint is that you cant change the default bluetooth password so anyone near you can log into your BMS and screw with the settings, the bluetooth has quite good range so basically anyone anywhere near you will see your battery pop up in their Daly Smart BMS app if they open it, then they can do whatever they like with the default 123456 password…. I contacted them about this and they just blew me off with a BS response "The password is most likely unable to be changed because DALY manufacture hasn't allowed us so. Because it is not recommended to change the parameter. The default is the best" …. Claiming it is "best" that other people can screw with your settings is pretty funny really…. There's other setting that are quite ridiculous also, like the charge and discharge temperature limits: -40c to +70c, lol, claiming these are the "best" settings suggests they don't know much about batteries, they're just BS default settings, they're certainly not best settings…

A couple of other problems with the Daly BMS, it doesn't register charge or discharge current below about 3 amps, so if you're drawing fairly low current the State-of-Charge measurement isn't really reliable or usable, and the Daly balancing is quite flaky… They only balance while charging, and since it doesn't read current below about 3 amps it doesn't actually balance towards the end of the charge cycle where it's needed, so the cell balance tends to get thrown way out of wack at the top end… I've improved this a bit with settings but it's still not ideal … (This is my first LiFePO4 battery so I'm still in the learning phase, still bench testing, cycling it with an inverter as a load and charging with a Victron mains charger, I'm hoping I can lower the impact of the poor balancing with settings once I get it installed in the campervan with the Victron solar charger and such)…

I also ordered some premade 10mm2 cables from them, Anderson to 8mm-lugs, I was expecting them to have nice hex-crimps and such but unfortunately not, they've used 25mm2 lugs on the 10mm2 cable and just crushed them flat, same with the Andersons, just crushed flat, and the couple I've checked have had quite a few broken strands, quite low quality cables… Even at just 25 amps the lugs get warm when they should be good for quite a bit more than that… So I certainly wouldn't recommend their cables, lol …

Anyway, end of whinge… The battery is certainly better than the real cheapo ones but be mindful of the quirks and issues with the Daly BMS's….

To add to this and clarify… You can actually change the temperature protection limit settings in the BMS (I only used that as an example of how silly their "best default" settings are), you can also change the cell/battery high and low voltage limits, charge and discharge over-current limits, plus quite a few other things… You can also turn on and off the batteries ability to be charged or discharged independently In that way it's certainly better than the cheap dumb BMS's that you cant access or alter in any way…

My main annoyances are just that you cant change the default password, and the balancing seems pretty flakey… (there's a good chance the balancing is still better than the cheaper batteries though)

For an average user that isn't looking for a smart bluetooth BMS the battery would be fine, I just expected more from "smart", and I expected it to all function as it should, but as with so much chinese gear it's like it was released in the beta phase of testing and they never got around to fixing the bugs…

Also, the stainless steel case is quite nice, I've been tempted to unscrew the lid to check out the build quality inside but I suspect that would void the warranty so I haven't…

They have info and videos of their builds and components from memory. Some boating bloke also made a video of their setup (try youtube). Seemed VERY good when I looked many months ago.

        • Yep, I've seen those videos thanks, I posted links to them on one of the other BWB deals, they're part of the reason I decided to buy from them… … It would still be interesting to have a look for myself though, to see if they have consistently good build quality and such..

(I'm considering once I get everything set up I might lift the lid just to disconnect the bluetooth module so I dont feel I have to keep checking my setting to make sure no one has screwed with them, lol, I'll check with them first but surely they couldn't void my warranty for that)

        • This may be of interest also… The battery is mainly for my campervan but I live on an acreage in a rural-residential area with occasional power outages that can last a while so I wanted the ability to drag the battery inside quickly and easily if needed, so I've made up a bit of a rough "hat" for the battery to include the necessities on the battery rather than hard mount them in the van:
          https://i.imgur.com/rVBymdl.jpeg
A 125A mega fuse on the +ve, Victron SmartShunt on the -Ve, and a couple of Andersons on 16mm2 cable, mounted in Jaycar Jiffy boxes on some 5mm poly, held on to the battery by the handle mounting screws…

      • What would you recommend instead? I’ve been looking at a Bluetti ac200p but Bluetti is giving me the SH!ts as they are so difficult to deal with. need to power a 60L National Luna fridge, charge some drones, laptops, rv starlink, a bit of movie projector screening and the like :D I’m sure it’ll increase with time. Mainly charge from solar but also having good car charging ability would be ideal.

That's for battery alone, uses pouches not prismatic cells iirc, and has prorated warranty. Good luck getting the BMS specs.

    • I'm a bit cautious of Renogy, they're basically just a marketing department throwing their name on gear… They have a good social-media presence which makes them popular but their aftersales and warranty support seems to be shocking…

From memory their battery warranty is kinda suspect, it would be wise to read into that if you're going to buy from them… From memory it's along the lines of 3-years, if the battery dies you have to ship it back to them at your cost, then they'll give you a pro-rata credit towards a new battery… So if it dies at 18 months and you can get them to accept responsibility, you'll get a 50% credit towards buying another one of their batteries… (I could be wrong on this, it was a couple of years back I read into it)

Quite a few sellers I've come across have "pro-rata" warranty, and make the same misleading statement wrt return warranty costs - including BWB.

The key is knowing your rights, especially in regard to statutory warranty which should arguably be 3Y+ based on typical use and life cycle specs. Pro-rata is basically null and void IF you're prepared to stand your ground.

Consumer law states that return costs must be borne by the seller if the product is bulky (and faulty). Ergo keep your receipt and claim the costs from the seller.

Thanks for the info on the BWB BMS. Very handy to know. Not much point in having high quality build and cells with a comparatively sub-standard BMS. That BMS is still likely to be better than you'll find in many other batteries though.

I don't think Renogy actually has an Australian presence or ABN so I doubt they would abide by Australian Consumer Law, which was my main concern with them…

BWB is based in QLD so I think they'd be all good with their warranty…
