  • paid 587 a month ago… handing up my OZB badge now.

    • Have you been happy with it?

      • +1

works fine so far. not a coffee expert so can't really say how good it is. much better than the BES870 for sure though.. that's what I was using before

        • In what ways is it better than the BES870? Just final product?

          • +2

            @tunzafun001: 58 vs 54 grouphead
dual thermoblock vs single thermoblock, so can steam n brew same time.
            stronger faster steam capacity,
sensor tip n gauge for frothed milk temp,
            bigger water tank,
            water level warning,
            better cup of final product

      • It’s an excellent machine, especially at this price. Fast heat up too.

  • This is an excellent machine

  • This or a Delonghi Dedica Arte?
Looking for my first coffee machine and just want something decent that will last.

    • I would get this one. If you look after it (cleaning tabs and descale a couple of times a year) they last well.

  • +1

Wow best machine for that price range.

  • Wow, thanks OP! Bought one to upgrade my BES870.

  • What grinder to pair with this?

    • how much you willing to spend?

      • Probably 400

        • +3

Breville smart grinder pro around $250, or for more consistent Italian quality can get Eureka Specialita from espressoshopcoffee direct import from Italy currently they have 15% off for BF sale. It arrives under 1 week.

          • @huntabargain: Thanks, I had seen the smart grinder pro mentioned elsewhere and the Amazon price is pretty tempting. I'm only using a cheap nespresso machine so this would be my first venture into proper coffee.

            • @pom: Amazon current price is $279?
check this site a bit cheaper Breville SGP $255

              • @huntabargain: Cheers, I've grabbed from Amazon purely because of the ease of returns in case some other BF deals come up which are better than this. The Eureka was just too much, the discount was good and basically paid for the shipping but I'm not sure I can stretch to that for a grinder.

          • @huntabargain: Do you know if you'd get charged gst on import?

            • +1

@pom: No, unless you buying more expensive machine with price over aud1,000.

  • How much of an upgrade would this be to a Breville duo temp pro? I don't find the time to convert to stream inconvenient and the auto purge (reduces temp from steam to brew) works well.

  • +1

Cheers OP! Bought this to replace my 11 year old EM6900

    • +1

You are not alone, plenty of us out there. I bought one a few weeks ago on the Amazon sale, after having had both the EM6910 and EM7000. This was just a good excuse to transfer our EM7000 out into the caravan for good holiday coffee, is still working completely fine.

      • Is it much of an upgrade from a EM7000?

        • Not really, I feel the 7000 is actually a little more tightly built, ie, possibly better tolerances. Little things like the tray is thicker metal on the 7000, the group head seems to seal more tightly etc. Not sure if it is just my imagination though. I do also like the pod function on the 7000, means I can keep some decaf pods for the once a year I need them, but use my freshly ground normal beans the other 99.999% of the time.

          • @Maximum64: Thanks. Really tempted but my EM7000 is still going but already showing signs of its age.

  • Is warranty looked after like a normal purchase from Big W? Can I just take it in to my local store for support

    • yes, but generally people contact manufacture for support, repair, etc

  • Has anyone managed to buy this with the SNSNOV code? ($550) It won't accept it for me.

    • Hmmm - it worked when I signed out and went to the checkout as a guest.

  • Does anyone know where to get a bottomless portafilter and precision baskets for this machine? I have one of those paired with Eureka Zero and it's absolutely amazing combo taken me to the point where I have stopped drinking coffee from cafes as I can't find quality nowhere even close to what I brew at home.

    • I bought bottomless portafilter from ebay for my E61 grouphead (58mm), but although the sunbeam is 58mm as well, it might be slightly different shape. You have to search for specific sunbeam compatible or check their website.

    • Would like to know this too. Hard to find out which ones are compatible despite the 58mm group head.

      • We use a VST 22g Ridgeless precision basket and it was a massive upgrade. Fits in the original Sunbeam portafilter just fine. Not sure about naked portafilters though as we don't have one.

        • I purchased a wooden handle bottomless portafilter that is supposedly compatible with the sunbeam models so we'll see how that fits. I've not used VST baskets before but seems to be a worthwhile upgrade.

          • @devize: Can you share which bottomless portafilter did you buy?

          • @devize: How much VST cost? just did quick search and its around $55, seems lots of money for something so simple.. not sure if would make great difference as I already have 2 standard baskets for 61 grouphead.

            • @huntabargain: The holes are more consistent, both in size and in distribution. I can imagine going from the very basic stock basket to a VST would be a big upgrade. However on a more expensive machine I'd imagine it wouldn't be as big of a difference.

            • @huntabargain: We paid $49 shipped 2.5 years ago. I was skeptical but it made a huge difference. This could just be due to it holding more, rather than the holes being more consistent, but it doesn't really matter - the end result was well worth it for us.

              • @Evil-Elmo: I am just trying to understand what difference such baskets makes on brewing and end result to see if its justified to consider it. I come across VST and IMS and was not sure with them, but I believe these are just the manufacture who makes all these different designer baskets.

So can you explain in which way it made difference?

When I bought my bottomless portafilter it came with its own 22gm basket, which I found a bit too large, as I drink double shot coffee with milk, so leading to too strong cup, so I revert back to the stock basket which is ~18gm. I understand 22gm basket are meant for triple shot, or perhaps if you split the coffee into 2 cups, which does not work with naked PT.

To be honest I don't see why someone would pay $550 for the whole machine and then pay $150 ($90+$55) for naked PF & VST basket!

                • @huntabargain: You can look up the James Hoffman video on this to answer your exact question but TLDR: one is precision laser cut, the other tho - sometimes the holes aren't even punched through.

A lot of small variables done well = amazing coffee. Screw up a variable and quality starts dropping quick. Defects in basket cause increased pressure and channeling etc

                  • @Bellenus: Thanks, I watched his video, he is no doubt a good talker and has some good points, but he did not demonstrate with actual shots if there is a real difference in the end result??
on the other hand I came across this other reviewer Precision Basket review comparing actual real shots using the most popular precision baskets IMS, VST, Pullman, Strada with the standard basket from his machine. I think the video is self explanatory, it would seem that grinder quality, distribution, tamping, brew temp consistent are the noticeable difference than anything else!
PS: I looked through my stock basket in the sun light and it seems well built with no noticeable defects and I don't get any channelling from my stock basket with the Naked portafilter. So I think I will save myself $55

  • I also have read a few reviews where the cleaning cycle doesn't work. Hoping it's not that widespread.

    • I updated to one of these a few weeks ago (have had both the 6910 and 7000), so haven't tested it myself yet, but I believe it is a case of the manual just having the wrong button press procedure. I did find details somewhere on how to actually get it working using a different button press procedure.

      • That's good to know. If you happen to have the correct button procedure handy, do stick it on here. Cheers

        • +1

I found this, try and let us know

          1. Plug in at power point.
          2. Turn on power at power point.
          3. Do not press standby.
          4. Press and hold down 2 cup button.
          5. Then press and hold down 1 cup button whist continuing to hold down 2 cup.
          6. Now press standby button and immediately lift hand off all buttons. It then starts.
  • Great deal however this arguably does not compete with the breville barista express as it doesn't come with an inbuilt grinder. So if you're getting an external grinder like the breville smart grinder pro you end up paying way more in total.

    • How the Barista Express compare to this machine, are they in the same league?

      • No, No they are not

        • +1

I am being polite with him :)

    • Yes, it's in a class above the barista express.

  • What would you say this machine is comparable to? I see people saying better than Breville. Rancillio Silva? Gaggia Classic?

  • My order just got cancelled… After I had already bought accessories for it.

    • That sucks, what accessories did you buy? The machine comes with all what you need to produce great cup, just needed fresh beans & good quality grinder, that is the most important tool. Some people goes on about distributer, naked PT, fancy baskets, WDT, fancy scale, etc but would always recommend to start basic and see if there is a need to get into a rabbithole of coffee making. Sorry mate, I think the next cheapest price of this machine is over $200 more and Breville double boiler is $900.

      • Bottomless portafilter and distributor.

The item didn't even sell out for a day or two after I purchased, many ahead of me on ebay. I don't understand why they couldn't fulfil my order. Not happy.

        • They sold 30 unit over 2 days 22&23 Nov.. I wonder anyone else got cancelled orders?

          • @huntabargain: Yeah I ordered on the 22nd. My username doesn't show in the buyers list anymore. I assume those who are still in there haven't got cancelled yet? Including those who ordered on the 23rd/24th…

            • @devize: weird, so you ordered 22/11 and order cancelled and some ordered 23/11 & 1 ordered 24/11 did not cancel yet?
Did you try to contact them directly on phone and complain?

              • @huntabargain: Yes. Everyone basically said sorry bad luck. eBay gave me a $50 voucher.

          • @huntabargain: My dad ordered it on the 23rd around midday, got his order cancelled on the 25th

Kind of glad, as he didn't use the discount code I told him to. Obviously he's not an ozbargainer
