AB?? We used to call this meal 'the dog' in uni..

          • @cathalm8: Abortion on a plate. What. Its messy. WHAT? I DIDNT COME UP WITH IT.

  • +7

These are nice. We use them as our main set. 18/10 set but I don't believe the knives are. We can't put the knives in the dishwasher without them going rusty.

    • Seriously? That’s good to know!

      • +4

The little grooves at the end of the knives started to go ever so slightly and we tried a few different things to minimise the risk but they still started to change. We just ended up hand washing the knives.

The rest of the set has no issues. They have 18/10 marked on the back on each piece. The knives do not have the same marking so I'm guessing they aren't.

        • +1

Thanks for the details! That’s a pity!

    • +6

+1 have experienced the exact same with this set

    • +1

Have this set. Still put it in dishwasher for what it’s worth. Haven’t noticed much rusting
From memory it’s because they said they use a different metal so the knifes remain sharp… who knows. Probably marketing bs.

      • +2

I've read that a lot. Even Choice magazine note the same thing and suggest not putting knives in the dishwasher.

    • Will confirm. Rust spot on knives. Still like the set. Hand wash everything now since dishwasher died. :P

This deal has 77 upvotes. I feel op should update to show this activity is a normal price at best, and has been much cheaper in the past.

    • Yeah I bought for $28.77 in February 2020. I guess COVID-flation has happened though. Didn't really like the handles with square corners so am using a Target set.

  • +1

I bought two sets of these when they were $35 each. Been alright. The teaspoons had a rust mark after the first wash all in the same spot but they replaced most of them.

    • +1

Gee, that would make Kmart better quality than Royal Doulton then?

Went with 3rd as it was open far further to interpretation. 2nd favourite was just too safe. Talking bs.

After using nice cutlery and dinnerware I can never go back to cheap stuff.

      • Define "nice cutlery"

        • +7

Dunno I guess. Stuff like this is nice I suppose. The weight is different. When you pick it up it just feels different. It's all part of the experience.

I'm sure if you went and got really nice food and you just put it on a cheap plate with cheap cutlery it wouldn't feel/taste the same. The mind is a strange thing.

          • +1

@ozbs25: Yeah. I understand what you mean. good to know I am not the only one hahaha

            • @ozizoy: It's hard to explain and it really shouldn't make a difference but it just does (for us at least). We got some of the Chasseur La Cuisson Petit Espresso Cups and we've had espresso, even Vietnamese instant coffee in them and something about them made the experience feel so different.

Kinda felt silly buying them and my wife wasn't happy when they arrived in the mail. Just needed to use a voucher or something I think, but we really enjoy drinking out of them.

              • @ozbs25: With you entirely. Call it psychosomatic, placebo, better design, aliens from Mars honestly I don't care. Sometimes "nicer stuff" actually makes the experience nicer.

              • @ozbs25:

We got some of the Chasseur La Cuisson Petit Espresso Cups(amazon.com.au) and we've had espresso, even Vietnamese instant coffee in them and something about them made the experience feel so different.

Probably because espresso cups shouldn't have a handle and don't need to be 100ml as a shot of espresso is 30ml so the different experience is because you are using the wrong cup

                • @spaceflight: I haven't really had an espresso at a nice place so this is all we know.

      • I've been using my Nanna's old Silverware. Some silver mostly silver plated, bone handled etc. The Kmart stuff I bought feels as good or nicer.

      • Then don't be too comfortable in your life. It's a choice.

    • +8

Get a load of this guy bragging about his wealth.

I'm still using my AVANTI 24 Piece Stainless Steel Hanging 24pc RED Cutlery Set 16722 I got for $1

      • +3

I'm not bragging about wealth. Nothing wrong with trying to have some nice things. Sometimes paying a little for something nicer makes a big difference. We feel it makes a big difference and we didn't spend that much. It'll probably last our lifetime too.

        • +2

          ColdBrother wasn’t referring to you

          • @andresampras: Ahh. Sorry, got all defensive as I tend to do.

Point still stands. You don't know until you try and unfortunately it's hard to go back.

    they are pretty good

I bought three at $35 each

good for self use and good house warming gift

  • Is this the same as "Vera Wang Wedgwood Chime 16 Piece Cutlery Set"?

I got this set (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/520352) 2 years ago and wondering if it will be matching.

    • +1

      Yes. Its the same one.

  • +1

    I have 2 sets. I think I paid around $39 each.

  • +3

    not historical low

  • +3

I dont know its because of inflation or supply chain issues. But I paid way less than this price. I bought 3 sets at that time. :)

    • Could be. We've bought a lot of stuff from Royal Doulton over the years and I swear we paid less for most of it. We've certainly taken advantage of timely 30% off everything sales both online and in-store but I'm really sure the RRP has gone up (sometimes quite a lot) for a lot of stuff.

  • Mahman

  • $299 retail?

    • Yeah with all these Royal Doulton outlet stuff I always wonder if anyone paid the retail price for them.

  • Wang's fav footballer is S Kerr

    Ozb cutlery of choice

    • You mean OzB Wang of choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

  • DO THEY TASTE LIKE A WEDDING DRESS?

  • Any reasons why the fork and and spoon don't have the same length? It looks like the spoon is shorter.

    • +1

It says it's a dessert spoon, as opposed to a dinner knife and dinner fork

      • But then, why not dinner fork and dinner spoon like in a set! Who uses only fork to eat !?

  • Heard rumour of extra 10% off, how?

  • Iinflation is a killer!

So much so I went and checked how many of the last 2 sets I ordered were still in the drawer.

    8 x Spoons
    6 x Knives
    7 x Forks

Do I pull the trigger? Or has my wife secretly stolen those 2 x knives and 1 x fork to finish off my Ozbargain addiction once and for all.

  • Very heavy

  • can anyone share the 10% code please? thank you

    • I tried VIP10 but didn’t work. Literally got memed to death:(

  • Meh cheaper at Kmart

  • -2

Rumour is that if you stand in front of a mirror at midnight and say "VIP10" three times you might get Ozbargained to death.
