May be worth comparing the two. I have had great experience with SimCorner but heard good things too about Simdirect.

        • Just looking at one of theirs (140Gb Europe) big drawback is you have to nominate an activation date (you don't with Simsdirect).

          • @wfdTamar: Argh. Now seems to be required for this site too. So no more buy now, use whenever.

  • AirAlo eSims are cheaper for Indonesia for instance. even after discount

    • +4

      Hey @shabaka

Do keep in mind they are in USD. So their 10GB Indonesia eSIM would be $37AUD compared to our $31.50AUD.

      😏

    • Hey @dsar

      Thanks for posting this.

Just an FYI our Japan SIM card works in an additional 13 countries throughout Asia (hence the price difference).

      -Aidan

      • Is this detailed in the item description? I don't see it

        • Hey @Caped Baldy

I've sent it to the team to add it in (It's supposed to be there, the same as the 6GB SIM).

          Thanks for pointing that out!

          -Aidan

      • Hi @SimsDirect,

What's the difference between the Japan sim and the South East Asia SIM Card? The SE Asia also works in Japan. I'm looking to travel to Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. You mentioned the Japan sim also works in 13 additional countries, but it doesn't specify that on the Japan sim. Do you have a list of Telcos the sim runs on for each country?

        Thanks

        • +2

          Hey @Penro

Nothing they are the same SIM card! The Japan SIM does not have the 13 countries listed by accident, I'm getting the team to fix it up for me.

I do not have a list of Telco's unfortunately. The SIM will roam onto the top carriers in each country and sometimes gives you the option to switch between multiple local carriers.

For Japan, however, it uses Softbank!

          -Aidan

          • @SimsDirect: Hey Aidan

It says 13 countries but when i counted its only 12 countries? Can you list the countries here please ?

Also @TravelKon is selling them for $24.50 vs $31.50 πŸ˜…

I just got back from a Singapore/Japan trip yesterday using these SIMs. Worked a treat from day 1. Two of the party are now in Korea using the same physical and esim.

It is worth noting that I passed my physical SIM with data left to one of the Korea goings and it works fine however removing an esim from a returned traveller and passing onto a Korea traveller doesn't work as you can't re-register an esim once it's been registered.

        • Hey @Limbot

Thanks for the purchase and positive feedback ❀️

That's a good point, never thought of that!

          -Aidan

  • +1 for the service they recently provided me. Had some trouble with my sim when I was in Singapore for the F1. Quick replies to my emails and clear directions on how to sort it out. Changed 1 setting on my phone and no more problems.

    Cheers simsdirect!

  • No calling for Bali sim? Is it not required?
Travelling for the first time so not sure why data only sim for Indonesia.

    • +1

      Hey @Vi19

      Correct that's a data-only SIM!

Calls are hard to get on Indonesia SIM cards; we usually recommend sticking to apps like Messenger, Whatsapp and Facetime for internet calls instead.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help! 😌

      -Aidan

      • Thanks.

        Placed order for 2 sims.

        • πŸ”₯

    • +1

@ Vi19 When travelling a majority of your out and about usage is most likely going to be communication between the travelling party (Where are you? Meet you at the Cafe etc) so use Messenger, What's app, Facetime as discussed , Google Maps for navigation, Googling for information like what time something opens or what there is to do around you, browsing forums like Ozbargain and maybe some country specific apps like taxi service apps (like Uber or equivalent) . None of these require old fashion telephone numbers and none of these are overly data taxing. My 10GB plan over my 18 day Japan holiday only took up about 7GB and that included some frivolities like Pokemon Go 😊

Don't do heavy data things like downloading music or movies etc unless you're connected to a wifi source.
      Hope this helps.

      • Thanks. I was thinking if I have to make a call for activities, book a cab etc. how is that possible without a number? I think probably can be managed with whatsapp.

  • +3

Feels bad … I just bought 2 x South East Asia esims but I could’ve got them for $24 with the travelkon deal that just popped up for cheaper :/

    • Same here.would have got 10gb each in 42 dollars for 2 sim. Ended up paying 49 dollar for 6gb :(

      • +1

I paid $63 for 20gb could’ve just got the 20GB over there for half price. My friends bought the other sim so we’ll see which service ends up being better >.>

  • Curios which one show Australian IP address when you connect using those travel sim cards.. i know that Vodafone show Australian one in myip services.. (when you use Vodafone roaming)

    • Hey @megaalc

The IP address will be the country you are in!

  • Great timing, almost! Am Melb metro based, and flying to NZ on Wednesday morning. How confident are you that the SIM would arrive on Tuesday / do you have StarTrack as an option?

    • +1

      Hey @theanatoki

Order with express options, and we can give it a crack! It's hard to say with the current volume of parcels at the moment (there can be delays this time of year).

If the order doesn't come in time you can return it for a full refund.

      -Aidan

      • Thanks Aidan! I'm flying this Saturday, so great timing!

Ordered the NZ unlimited pack with express delivery. I presume this should easily arrive by Friday (Sydney metro suburb).

So I guess I just insert the sim card into my phone prior to landing, and data+calls should just work once I arrive?

        • +1

          Hey @cse1024

          Thanks for the support! ❀️

Yep, should arrive Wednesday. To activate the NZ SIM, simply dial 200 and follow the prompts when you land! :)

  • Hi Store Rep, your south-east-asia-sim-card-10gb-data-only-30-days, I am travelling to Thailand, Japan and Singapore in Jan 2023 and will stay there about 23 days in total. Will the SIM card be activated when I arrive in the first country? Can I just use this SIM card for all these three countries? Thank you for your help.

    • Hey @wxia6

The SIM will activate on the first network connection when you land in any of the countries listed (and turn on data roaming).

It will work in all those countries, correct! πŸ‘

      -Aidan

  • Any e-sim for Canada?

    • Hey @asdfasdfasdfasdf

The USA T-mobile eSIM has an option for Canada on it.

We do not have anything specifically for Canada only unfortunately!

      -Aidan

  • Would be great if there's a 15 days option on South East Asia sims, 30 days is too much :(

    • I feel ya! We will be widening our range of eSIMs from here on out so keep posted!

      -Aidan

  • Any SIM cards for India?

    • Hey @teardrops21

We have a 6GB Asia SIM that works in India here

Let me know if you need a hand with anything else! πŸ‘

      -Aidan

      • Does it work in all big cities in India? Need something for Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Thanks

        • Hey @qvinto

It should work in all cities in India. Most local SIMs in India are region locked, but our SIM should circumvent that.

          -Aidan

    Europe trip sorted

    • Hi @RecalledItem

      Epic! πŸ”₯

      Have a safe trip legend!

      -Aidan

    • Same. Which one did you choose

  • Hey there, I understand this works for 30 days, but is it possible to extend the SIM card plan for an additional month? Or would buying two SIM cards and then inserting the second sim after 30 days work? I’m going to NZ for 6-8 weeks and am currently working out the best option! TIA

    • Hey @Bradellin

We cannot top up or extend the SIM cards, unfortunately, but you can top up via the 2degrees app using NZD.

Or you can buy 2 SIMs and swap them as you go if you'd like to support our business a little further instead of theirs!

      -Aidan

  • Thanks Aidan great timing. we're heading to the USA in 3 weeks but still waiting for 1 passport (we applied almost 3 months ago so hopefully soon).

If it doesn't come we can't go. Can I get a refund as per -We understand that the current global travel situation is always changing. If your trip gets cancelled, we’re happy to offer you store credit so you can purchase a SIM for your next trip or you can get a refund as part of our money-back guarantee?

Also does the USA Canada unlimited work in Hawaii?

    Thanks

    • FWIW there is a lady with a cart outside Honolulu airport that sells Sims.

    • +1

      Hey @Captain Hindsight

Good to see a familiar face! Yep we can honour that no worries at all πŸ‘

Just ask for me and keep a screenshot of our comments for reference :)

Also yes! The US SIM will work in Hawaii

      -Aidan

      • Love your work thanks.

      • Hi again Aidan I was just about to pull the trigger but noticed it's an extra$10 to allow tethering. I hadn't noticed that elsewhere. Why is this can't I just tether with paying more?

        • Hey @Captain Hindsight

Unfortunately with AT&T, you need to purchase tethering :(

  • the deal is great

    • ❀️

  • OP, if I order now and we're leaving Sydney for the US on the 29th, do you think the sim would reach us before we leave? Or should I instead just buy it from your counter at Sydney international?

    • Hey @blitz

If you order with express postage we should get it to you in time!

      -Aidan

  • Stupid question, but we are traveling to Japan in January. I note these are all data only SIM cards. If we need to say call a hotel, or a restaurant to make a booking or some other lane line, is there an app or something that can use data to call a landline?? What happened to when travel sims included calls, sms, and data??

    • +1

      Hey @Rscit

I would recommend using Skype or Viber for that (or alternatives to that). You can buy credit to use for landline calls over the internet.

Some SIMs come with calls and texts, and some don't. It depends from country to country and SIM card to SIM card.

      -Aidan

  • Do we need to activate this on the day we need it? Or we can activate now and choose the start date while activating?

    • Hey @peuwayaqdq

Each SIM has it's own activation process so make sure to follow the instructions on the product page and SIM guide included.

Let me know if you have any further questions :)

      -Aidan

  • Heading to bed early for a big week guys! 😴

    • Hey @virtualds

Discount codes are not stackable on our site; the 30% off deal is the best you will get!

Delivery will take 3-5 business days with free shipping and 1-2 with express.

      -Aidan

  • Hey Aidan

For the Southeast Asia SIM it says 13 countries but when i counted its only 12 countries? Can you list the countries here please ?

    Thanks

    • Hey @Lukkyz

Indonesia/Bali, Thailand, Malaysia, Macau, Taiwan, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea

It recently also worked in Hong Kong but no longer does, so it's only 12 now. I will get that updated on the site!

      -Aidan

  • I've used the Europe 12Gb ones this year and pre covid in the UK and Europe. Never had it 'just activate when you land'. It's been a PITA every time (about 3-4 of them). Takes ages/hours to activate and lots of turning things off then on, restarting etc. When they do eventually work, they're fine.

Since Brexit finding a UK sim that works unrestricted has become a pain so I may still use these ones (though Popitmobile.co.uk looks good or Free.fr)

  • Thanks Aidan this was timely!
Bought 2 sims as a return customer :)

    • Hey @EuphratesFate

Awesome! Thanks for purchasing with us 😌

      -Aidan

  • By when do you have to activate the SIM for NZ? Can you hold onto for a few months prior to travel?

    • If they're like the UK/Europe ones I bought pre covid - yes, I used 1 or 2 this year. Although having just tried to buy some I note they want an activation date when purchased (they didn't use to).

    • Hey @angers

You can hold it for as long as you need.
