      ""Russian software""

For maybe 10 years or more kaspersky has been developing a major outlet in switzerland

This office etc has been taking a major role in kaspersky products development and support etc and appears to be getting bigger.

It appears that the western world deals more with switzerland than russia nowadays.

I have been using kaspersky stuff since the days it was a DOS GUI and i was a real young bloke.

Total security and Internet security are no longer sold and any offers like this will be the remaining stock clearance world wide.

kaspersky products have always been… even in dos gui days top detection products and this is true today.

      • Will I be upgraded to one of the newer Kaspersky products, and which one if I purchase this?

        • You can, but it is not automatic. There is a bit of a trick with it. You need to download the new version and then install over KIS.

          • @justwondering: Does it make sense to buy two of these keys?

Will having a second key ready for 3 years from now get you whatever their current product is, then?

      • yup they have changed to Standard, Plus and Premium. The pricing structure is subscription based and looks pretty high atm

  • Daughter is getting laptop for Xmas would this be a good buy to install on it.
Also I have a new laptop myself from probably 8 months ago or more I turned on checked all ok and just not had time or used it since, so was thinking this be good for that.
Same goes for a desktop pc I got same time as laptop again set up and not used since but over the holidays I want to play around with them both.

So really I be using this on two laptops and a desktop pc all pretty much brand new

    • Kaspersky cloud is free

      • This is what im still using as well. Wonder if many know its actually quite decent? (and available)

I've been with Kaspersky and Optus for years and the only security threat I had was from Optus.
I use Kaspersky Total Security and have found it simple to use, not slowing my computer/laptop/tablet/phone down at all.
Several times my Kaspersky anti-virus has warned me when I've gone to a dodgey website. Their anti-ad banner works better than Adblock Plus.
Finally I pay extra for Kaspersky Secure VPN $20 per year from devicedeal and it's fantastically fast and allows split tunneling.
You only need to go to Wikipedia to see the list of Malware discovery that Kaspersky has been instrumental in discovering; Equation,
GroupDuquAndroid, cyber-espionage, SilverlightPoseidon, GroupTitanium, Red October just to name a few.

  • Does anyone know if the license keys can be stacked?

    • +2

I think you add to your account then they only activate once current expires

    • Yes they can be stacked, you go to your Kaspersky account, click on "subscriptions", go down to "Add activation code" then copy/paste it into the space.
You can then see what ever plan you have, now has an extra 365 days added to it. The Kaspersky Secure VPN deal was so cheap I bought
2 more 365 day plans on top of my current one which had about 220 days left, it's now up to 947 days.

      • Is the VPN deal still available?

        • +1

Yes, I provided a link above at devicedeal.com.au $19.90 for 12 months for Kaspersky Secure VPN

Been using Kaspersky for years, its good enough. Usually i get it around this price via ebay

  • +1

I buy the 5 devices licence - got people to cover (kids laptops, wife/SIL/mum/sister) haha
When its just suscriptions only later on and no longer these types of discounted subs, not sure if I will continue though - more expensive

  • I’m not sure I understand this.
What does the email bit in the title refer to?
Also, there’s a 70% sale on the Kaspersky website. Is this the same protection as the Kaspereky plus advanced plan?

    • I've updated the description. The store emails you the license / product code

    • @Megametro It means the activation code will be emailed to you. You will not get a card in the mail with the code.
Therefore saving you and the seller on postage fees. It also means you can copy/paste the activation code from the email.

Kaspersky is under sanctions in most countries and banned in the US since 2017, his malware has backdoors for the FSB to spy on users.

    • +3

Not true, it's only banned for use by the federal government in the US. Ordinary citizens are free to download and use it.

      • That's true.

I'm still using kaspersky from the previous deal saveonit had and I have to say, for a paid antivirus, it makes me feel like I'm using a free antivirus. Constant popups and promotions, and every other week it they will shove their vpn down my throat… It's pretty annoying.

Although I think it works well? I haven't got a virus… that I know of.

    • +1

You can turn off the notifications for marketing/information
Settings, Interface —> News and Promotional sections

I turned it off as annoying also nad uninstalled the VPN and turned off Safe money as found it doesnt work properly sometimes

  • +1

Creamy… is this kaspersky news etc you are seeing pop up?

    On total security do this:

Try settings/interface untick news and promotional material untick the stuff you do not want and save.

    • ok I'll try that.

It usually is a mix of promotional stuff, telling me to uninstall unused applications, free up space, buy their vpn and then every now and then they'll reinstall their vpn automatically after I uninstall it, and have it auto run and even that has pop ups too…

  • Have used from these sellers since 2016. Much value for money and never had issues with Kaspersky

  • Signing up for a website account emails you your password back in plain text in the email. This means passwords are being stored in an insecure way and likely not hashed+salted in their database.

Pretty poor considering this is an IT website. You'd think they'd know the basics of using bcrypt on their site.

  • You don’t really need a 3rd party virus guard if you are on Windows, because the bundled free Microsoft Defender is good enough. In fact the Microsoft's offering is in the same class as Kaspersky in terms of threat protection, so why bother ?

    • +1

Some random 3rd party might try to shove it into the same box as the included one, but that's a flawed methodology because it's very hard to objectively compare AVs in a simple manner.

The best AV is one that is quickest to put out updates to new threats and has the widest protection - and of course also very important is how unobstructive it is. Kaspersky is as good as it gets protection wise. Y'know, for people who are willing to spend $15 to upgrade from 'food enough' to 'really good '

  • how does this compare to nod32?

I've been waiting for nod32 deal for ages but it never comes

    • Those Eset deals are not around anymore - they are gonskies

      • howcome? Eset too good to give discounts?

      • you can still find them on ebay

  • Lucky I checked I am on total security before I buy this to add on.

  • +1

You can download Kaspersky Standard directly and install, then enter the license code from Save On IT, and it will activate the 2 year license code. What's interesting is that within the My.Kaskpersky portal afterwards it will offer both Kaspersky Standard and Kaspersky Internet security as available downloads for additional devices.

    https://www.kaspersky.com.au/downloads/standard

  • can you use the keys and downgrade from Kaspersky Total?
