    thx OP

    Bought 1

  • Is this is a white van brand?

    • It's a reputable brand, popular in the UK.

  • Is it plastic or stainless steel, looks beautiful though

    • +2

Stainless steel body with crisp white coating

as per the description of the kettle at House

  • Not sure why i need this but bought

  • Picture - "rapid boil 3kw element"
    Specifications - "power 2.2kw"

Had to check when I saw the photo as I was thinking I hope it's not a 3kw element as that's above standard power point ratings

    • I think the 3kw would be from the UK which has 13 amp power points which with 230 volts would be 3kw. You find this a lot with stuff on Amazon which comes from the UK.

It could also be rated 2200 watts (2.2kw) or 2400 watts (2.4 kw) depending if they use 220 or 240 volts as what comes down your power line. So I'm guessing they're all the same (but the UK stuff on Amazon often has a UK plug).

      • How do you know/learn about this stuff, are you an electrician

        • +2

Nup. Just a friggin genius I reckon :-) (of course I could be completely wrong in which case I'm an idiot).

          • @wfdTamar: Did you watch a YouTube video (got any recommendations) , or is there a dummy's book for this stuff. I'm interested in learning about this stuff like power banks, chargers etc

            • @x x: No I just know some basic stuff.

      • 13amp power points wouldn't make a difference to the power used, that's what they are rated "up to"
For Australia's 220v system a kettle element would have a resistance of about 10ohm
Using Ohms law to work out the amperage is 220(v)/10(ohm)=10amp
To work out the power is then 10(amp)x220(volt)=2200watts
So for it to be 3000w would have to be a 300v supply.

        • Using your equation isn't it this in the UK?

13(amp)x230(volt)=2990watts (I used 230 volts as it gets close to 3000watts)

I was saying there is a lot of UK stuff sold on Amazon.au that has the UK description which often includes it stating it's 3000watts (for stuff like kettles). It won't be 3000 in Australia.

Or am I looking at it wrong? Is something that's 3000 watts in the UK going to be 3000 watts here (if the voltage is the same) regardless of the rating of the power point?

          • @wfdTamar: The resistance of the element is fixed, and so is the supply voltage so it is the current(A) that changes to suit.
The same kettle plugged into 230v there would be 2300w, 220v here is 2200w.
Say you're running off a local transformer with its voltage set to high at 245v it would then use 2450w

  • This is coming up as $139 for me. Do I need to be an eBay plus member to see the cheaper price?

    • Yes only for plus members.

Just be careful it defaulted to paid $14.95 postage. Had to select free postage to reduce it down to $79

Also choice rated this highly in their Toaster review Based on it being $150 - That was for model 248020 This is
248021 so would guess the specs would be almost the same.(Black unit vs White unit) plus you get the kettle as well.

  • I need it black.

  • No crumpet button! No deal.

  • Is this actual stainless steel on the finish or the usual plastic plated stuff that inevitably chips off after a while?

    • You're referring to chrome. It's not in any way related to or described as stainless steel.

My Morphy Richards toaster lasted 25 months. 4 slice toaster turned into a 2 slice toaster. Left side wouldn't stay down. Binned
