  • So to be honest, you really need to have a subscription. 3 hours is a bit useless isnt it?

    • +3

If someone is already on Google ecosystem with many cams then it doesn’t hurt if you are paying extra for subscription.
Eufy has released 4K cams four pack and hub with a price tag of $2000. That’s like paying Google subscription for 7-8 yrs.

      • That's not comparable.

You can get a Reolink 5k cam for $118 wth local storage & if you want to play, remote storage.

you can still get your google subscription in turkey for like A$24 per year for 2TB

          • +1

@pichxlonco: Subscription for Google Nest cams is different than normal Google storage subscription. It is part of their Nest products. And I am sure VPN based location won’t help as the cams connect to cloud storage(Nest specific) directly over net with all their serial numbers and location information.

            • @rahuahuj: Thanks! Was told that you only need google one, Shame on Google for charging separately for every single thing

    • 3 hours of events. Depending what you want to use it for…..

      • Im not sure what that means (why i asked)

I mean, say you went away for a weekend , go home and noticed the home vandalised… can you go back over the weekends video and see what happened?

        • +4

It gets triggered by movement. If someone breaks in and they trash/rob your house, leave the doors open and feral pigs wander in and rummage around for 3hr5mins, the you won't see footage of the perpetrators, just 3hrs of pigs rummaging.

If they break in, spend an hour looting, leave and shut the door and there's no other movement until you get home & turn off the camera after 20mins, then you'll have 20mins footage of you arriving home & an hour of them looting and 1hr40min of previous movement (you leaving the house, etc).

          • +1

@M00Cow: So you don’t get an instant notification if it senses movement?

    • i have google nest sub for $90 per year, keeps my event recording for 30 days , or $180 for 60 days event and 10 days 24hours recordings

      • I have been trying to find people who are using Google security cams.. as most of the online reviews say that Eufy or Reolink are way better than Google cams. I don’t mind paying for subscription and already have a few google products like Hub, doorbell and speakers. But some of the cons that they mention make me think again before I invest in Google cams:

        • No 2k or 4k, still doing HD
        • No continuous recording unless you wire them up
        • Poor battery life, need a recharge every month or so
        • Too many false motion detection alerts
        • Google home app not very user friendly when it comes to these cams

Do any of these apply in your setup or bother you?
I really want to buy some security cams during this Black Friday sale :) .. be it Google or some other brand.

        • This Camera or the Indoor/Outdoor one ?

          • No continuous recording unless you wire them up : you need the subscription to have continuous recording, but you can view the cam ever without the plan

          No 2k or 4k, still doing HD : the Outdoor/indoor is 2K, This one is Up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) at 30 frames/sec
https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259110?hl=en#z… - Read here on the specs

Poor battery life, need a recharge every month or so : Indoor/Outdoor one (i have 3, front, back, side) and they all last around upto 3 months, doest take long to charge

Too many false motion detection alerts : only had one in the past year, but that was my top waving around in the wind , other then that, all good

Google home app not very user friendly when it comes to these cams : what google app are you using, the Home app is awesome

Do any of these apply in your setup or bother you? set up was easy, just only the QR code didnt work, and had to enter manually when i was setting up

i was looking at others, but alot of reviews were Pro Google over the other cams especially with Camera recordings etc,(look them up) , plus i have the Hubs and Max devices

but, Google Hardware is expensive, but you said you were looking at BF and maybe also Cyber Monday

          hope that helps

          • @HappyJoyJoy: Thanks for responding. It definitely helps.
I am looking to buy a few outdoor ones and maybe one for indoors.
As you already have the subscription, did you hardwire your outdoor cams to get continuous recording? Is it easy/difficult to hardwire?

Actually one of my friends friend work at JB and they can get you heavy discount on any thing that they sell round the year. But hoping BF sale will be special.

FYI, if you try to look for reviews on YouTube that compare Nest cams with other brands, I couldn’t find a single one that said Google cams are better.

            • +1

@rahuahuj: the outdoor/Indoor ones are Battery and need to be charged every and then placed on the magnetic mount

like, i went google, thats it, after watching vids etc etc etc

what do you need the cameras for , drugs, crack, (sarcasm) ? , google does its job and thats it , i can view my yard and the side of the house, back and inside so i can watch my cats,

              anyway, happy hunting

              • @HappyJoyJoy: Yeah I have seen this one before, Eufy is the winner in this review.

    • If you are not tied into the Google ecosystem, you could consider this

      • +2

Yeah bit it's Wyze, they can't spell wise and they can't do security.

        https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/wyze-cam-flaw…

A Wyze Cam internet camera vulnerability allows unauthenticated, remote access to videos and images stored on local memory cards and has remained unfixed for almost three years.

  • only issue is the Plug , can i use any USB - Power plug or ?

    • Yes, the camera cable ends in a USB-A plug

      • thanks, i have power board and just plugged it in and all working, thanks mate

    • You can as long as the power adaptor is providing enough juice. Otherwise the camera is finicky and complains if it isn't getting enough power.

  • Can you pay for the sub using google rewards credit?

  • It would be Type G plug to USB-A.
Keep it and use it when travel to places like UK, south east Asia, Hong Kong etc.
