Not really seeing the bargain here.

ikr, price increase ($88.29 —> $101.23), tech downgrade (Gen 4 —> Gen 3), etc but I guess it's good for people who missed out previously.

The WD orders are being cancelled

        • +1

oh no…… (hope you're just joking)

@BinChicken69: Contacting support will only bring attention to it

@BinChicken69: Too late spoken just got the email ):

            • +1

@BinChicken69: yeah keep complaining to amazon to make sure without a doubt that everyone's order gets cancelled along with yours

            • -2

@BinChicken69: please hand in your ozbargain membership… why would you contact support?!

              • -2

@R3XNebular: They already clearly know about if all my orders were canceled and everyone ells's orders too, was before i had anyway. I contacted support to try and bump it back but that did not work. They have data sheets to show the error they made anyway it would have made 0 difference

@BinChicken69: I was going to say that you should have been through this quite a few times but maybe not:

With the WD deal which could be a price error, you should be prepared for cancellation.

@BinChicken69: I don’t think anybody got them. Everyone was cancelled. I got in very early and only ordered two.

Yeah, I'm cranky coz I missed out on the WD deals.

        • The only reason why I caught onto the WD deals was by a camelcamelcamel tracking email that popped into my inbox regarding the 12tb WD book external hard drive, which had sold out by the time I got onto amazon. I then checked ozbargain to confirm that they weren't trolling me with a false notification, so I saw the absolutely bonkers black friday sale that was happening.

          • @DogeConomy: What deal was this? Link please.

            • @pacificstorm: READ my comment thoroughly, I mentioned that it sold out once I opened Amazon.

…regarding the 12tb WD book external hard drive, which had sold out by the time I got onto amazon.

Aren't they all getting cancelled anyway?

  • It seems, ok. I feel like the sweet spot is 500gb gen 4 top end and then 2tb dramless gen3.

  • +1

First time I've actually seen a Kioxia drive for retail purchase

  • Is this drive deal okay, I'm considering whether it'd be a good deal since it's currently only a couple of bucks cheaper than other retailers… (and slower than the 1tb SN570 WD drive I was looking at before)

    • +1

I have the sn570, pretty good for a dramless SSD, best bang for the buck

    • +1

This one will perform better with large writes due to the DRAM cache.

      • Yes will be better for sustained writes

    • +4

SN570 currently going for $11+ more than this Kioxia

The extra cash gets you 50% more sequential read, 100% more sequential write and 200TB more endurance

The question is whether you will notice these bigger numbers in a typical Gen 3 system and if the lack of DRAM will cripple any write heavy workloads

The Kioxia can write 1500 MB/s sustained with no drop off

The SN570 can write 2500 MB/s for 2 seconds before dropping off to < 600 MB/s ie. the Kioxia is 250% faster after 2 seconds which is very noticeable

      • The main reason you would go for this Kioxia G2 is if you have situation(s) where you want DRAM on the SSD.

SN570, I have mixed feeling about it. It feels more like a rebranded, original batch of SN550 (before WD did the NAND swap). Also, Kingston NV2 1TB @ $99 makes it hard to get excited about SN570, which honestly, was reviewed a while back by most sites.

  • this price and has DRAM, actually doable

  • +1

Bought 2 thanks op, hope the dram helps my 920+ NAS build

  • what is this, 850X cancellation consolation? lol

    mine got cancelled of course

  • +2

Wow - never heard of Kioxia but looked them up on wikipedia & they are essentially a spin-off from Toshiba Memory Corp & now 40% owned by Toshiba (the inventor of flash memory) & 55% by Bain Corp (that bought Virgin Australia).
They bought OCZ some time back & also Lite-On' SSD business more recently.
WD uses their facility for making their flash memory chips.

    • I think they're more in the enterprise space as well as manufacturing for others. They just haven't forayed that much into retail consumer market with marketing but i remember LTT mentioning very good things about the company.

    • They manufacture OEM ssd for both Dell and Lenovo laptop products.
