When you look at the prices of these new next gen GPU's at over $2000AUD
The Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 look like great value for what you get.

    • Because they're walled gardens.
Sony/Microsoft get their money later from XBL/PSN and a cut of every game you purchase.

That said, $424.15 seems pretty good for current gen hardware.

      • PS4 homebrew scene is just taking off now, 10 years later.

Yeah, I've read. I'm still on 5.05 but apparently the newer firmwares have stable exploits now.

They've even got a PS4 emulator which can play a couple of 2d games at 10fps now.

    • What are the specs?

    • And the rate they are going, some of these cards are going to be larger than the Series S at least.

  • Does anyone know if I can use the XZIP15 discount code and stackb it with an eBay gift card that I have?

I have a $100 gift card. Could I still use the code to pay for the balance with Zip?

    • Looks like you can pay the full amount with gift cards according to some people in the main coupon thread.

      • So my question is, Iv want to pay $100 with the GC and at the same time use the discount code to further reduce the price for the xbox

Should be fine. I'm just saying that you can pay the entire amount using gift cards if you don't want to use zip.

  • have one of these bad boys, Gumtree for $320

    pros

    • game pass is solid
    • 120hz 1080p for some games (cod/overwatch/rocket league etc)
    • tiny and whisper quiet
    • most next gen games are 1440/30 or 1080/60
    • cheap af

    cons
    - lacking killer first party games (guess this goes for the X too)
    - 364GB storage available only out of the box
    - UI is full of ads and other junk
    - non user upgradable storage for next gen games (Seagate drive is a rip off)

    9/10 well worth it tho

Also a good emulator box too ;)

I really don't see how this is a problem? Who care's if a game is first party or third party. Do you get more enjoyment simply because a game is first party?

UI is full of ads and other junk

Bit of a stretch lol. There are 3 little tiles on your home screen that are dedicated to showing details about your friends (what they're playing etc) and new content in the store. You can make your console boot straight in to your last played game and just use the guide if you want to, never seeing the home screen.

      • non user upgradable storage for next gen games (Seagate drive is a rip off)

If you can upgrade it then it is user upgradable lol.

First party games are a factor when they're God of War, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn, so on and so forth.

        • 3rd party games are a bigger factor though when they're COD/Madden/Fifa/etc. There's no shortage of games to play on Xbox.

None of those games you listed appeal to me. They're not "killer" for me. I haven't bought them on my PC because they don't appeal to me. Games like that being on xbox as first party games wouldn't make any difference to me, I still wouldn't buy them.

Can you use keyboard and mouse on games like Fortnite?

  • I've got a switch but for some reason i'm tempted to get one of these with a game pass for some reason… anyone have a convincing argument?

    • +1

Do it. See if there is still an Xbox gold to game pass conversion hack to save even more.

      I have both too.

Switch is great because of portability, but as you say, xbox has game pass. Game pass has meant that I've saved money (or spent less) on games as many of the titles I would've gotten on Switch are on Game Pass.

As example, No Man's Sky. Included with Game Pass, but $55ish on Switch.

Had I wanted to play No Man's Sky on the go, I would have previously defaulted to getting it on the Switch, but now just use the xbox as a stream machine. That is, I can remote play No Man's Sky on my phone via Game Pass and Remote-play or indeed direct from Microsoft Stream service for other titles.

My Switch is now only used for exclusive Nintendo titles - Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids.

    • The Xbox has heaps of games the Switch doesn't.

  • Noob question: I also have a switch, Can I use the Xbox controller with Switch?

And I presume we need to buy one more controller if we want to play multi player on xbox, any good recommendation for Xbox controller (or even will work with both system)? Thanks

You can use the Xbox controller with the Switch via the Mayflash Magic NS adapter (wired only).

For couch multiplayer, you'll need extra controllers and there's none that works with both consoles out of the box.

You can use xbox controller on switch, but not natively. You'll need a dongle of sorts, like 8bitdo. That will allow wireless connection too - I have one at home for use when there are many family members playing on my Switch.
