  • Hmmm tempting but i havent used mech keybaords other than blues, i hate the tactile feel and sound but thease browns are supposed to be better and this keybaord is a very nice keyboard,
Can somebody tell me from experence whats the closest keybaord to membrane but has the mechanical feel of a classic 80-90's keybaord clunk no tactile but linier ?

AFAIK you can't get clicky switches that are linear. All clicky switches are tactile but not all tactile switches are clicky. So you gotta decide between linear and tactile. TBH the click just annoys everyone else in the same and next room. Go and try out some browns (tactile) or blacks (linear). If you press them hard enough and bottom out (not recommended but who cares, you can buy another one, consumerism FTW), you can feel like you got your old school keyboard.

    • I have browns. They are great:

Tactile but there's no obvious 'click' as with the blues. Nice weighty feel to them. Personally, I'd love a keyboard with blues one day but am afraid the clicking will annoy everyone in the street….I also find it hard to justify having more than one keyboard. Not sure how those who have a collection make best use of them.

May I ask what's the appeal of this particular keyboard for you? There are just so many options out there these days beyond the bigger brands (i.e. corsair, logitech, cooleermaster, razer) and you go have a look at the smaller more niche brands, you're bound to find something interesting (ducky, leopold, durgod, varmilo to name a few).

      • I ove media keys and dedicated volume buttons as i tend to whatch movies quite a lot and i use full size keybaords for typing but i ocasinally do a little gaming but mainly typing and my current razer keybaord membrane is just way to mushy from day one, i have looked at ducky but unfortunetly they dont offer media keys, ill have a look at the other brand sugestions i really apreciate it

        • If you're after an excellent typing experience then the choice from all the smaller manufacturers is amazing. HOWEVER, if you want your media keys then unfortunately those options seem to narrow considerably. I guess the smaller manufacturers have to focus on keeping things a little simpler and creating a lot of choice in aesthetics which is relatively cheap compared to added functionality.

Although my Leopold has media keys. It's just that they aren't labelled as such!
I have the earlier wired version of this.

Now comes with bluetooth. Non-labelled media keys may sound nonsensical at first, but I can see one advantage. If you learn which ones are the media keys, you end up (muscle) memorising them and get the hang of it pretty quickly. So you have your keys, but you retain a very minimal looking without extraneous labeling everywhere. This may be important to some people who like the uncluttered look.

I actually don't use the media keys. I seem to have memorised all the YouTube and VLC keyboard shortcuts so that I don't seem to need them (i.e. space bar goes stop).

Would love a keyboard with a knob. Or a keypad with a knob AND a slider! Have no idea what I'd use it for tho.

        • see also gravelc's comments below on gamer brands v keyboard brands. I wonder if the difference in quality is because the gamer brands just outsource everything. Not to say that keyboard brands don't occasionally have their own quality control wrinkles.

  • Have had my K70 for 7 years and has been a solid keyboard

A little over the style, feel of the keyboard.

Have made the mistaker of buying 5 or 6 of these kinds of keyboards over the years (i.e. gaming brands). Usually the RGB is the first to go, where keys start displaying the wrong colours. Then something else goes wrong and it's time to start again. The K70 I had didn't last a year, so warrantied then sold.

Wish I'd discovered pre-builts from enthusiast focused keyboard companies years ago. Currently using an Akko 3068B. Far far better typing experience and cheaper than the gamer brands (this cost $130 and has wired, BT and 2.4Ghz dongle connectivity), and uses all stock parts, so anything can be replaced cheaply and easily. My other keyboard is a Logi G915 TKL and it is garbage in comparison, even though it costs twice as much.
