  • Not a bad price for a mid-motor bicycle but take note that the manual says "Mantus MTB bike is not suitable for off-road driving"

Looking at the Q&As on another site it's potentially not road legal either, I assume because it can be run in pure electric mode.

      • Specs look legal. 25kmhax under pedal assist power and 6kmh using the throttle alone.

  • Reasonable price for mid-drive, I have seen these go for around the 2.5K but first mid to go under 2K with built-in battery makes it a good buy. They are coming down all the time so expect it to drop further but at the moment I would say its good value. Good components and probably wont compare to a 5k mid but for the price at 2K its good value and as above not an off-road bike but for on road commuting cant go wrong at this price.

    • Hope they keep coming down. Would love a mid drive ebike but just can't justify more than $2k from a purely financial standpoint it. Keen for a hybrid bike though, not a mountain bike.

Also, in regards to this, I didn't think mid drives could do a 'pure electric' mode? I thought mods required pedalling at all times

    • Yeah, the geometry looks very much like cross country, not downhill as much.

    • Reid Cycles often put on sale mid drive bikes under $2000

If only there was some kind of engine…… a "search engine" if you will, that could be used to find this kind of information.

Yes, needs to be a pedellec 250 watt or power assisted to be legal. I see lots of people on my rides on mod powered hi-watt ebikes that are illegal which maybe fine until you run into someone and then end in litigation or prison. Power override are allowed in bursts supposedly as long as it is below 25km / hr maximum to get across traffic lights but they operate on a spring return button in most states. Legal pedellecs are great as they help if you live in a hilly area as I do!

  • Looks similar to the HIMO C30R Electric Road Bike on sale for $1889 from panmi

edit: except not a mid mounted motor

NO! big difference is this is a MID-DRIVE, the link you provided is a rear HUB drive. I spent around 1K changing my rear hub ebike to a Mid and would have gladly purchased this for 2k as it cost me loads more than that to get a mid-drive.

      • why is mid drive better than hub motor?

        • Mid drive allows use of gears.
          Better centre of gravity.

        • Mid gives some advantage, some say its more like normal bike riding but I had a HUB 9 speed Ebike with bottom bracket torque sensor, so really didn't make any difference for riding changing to a Mid, but know that now after trying both. A mid has a normal wheel at the back so puncture repair is easy with normal tools, a lot more difficult getting a HUB wheel off. Really minor advantages and probably after trying could have stayed with the HUB but reasonably happy with the Mid-drive hype as being overall better for DIY replacing components.

  • I have owned this model bike for a year or so. I paid $2700, with a bike lock and helmet inc, from Electric Kicks (very good to deal with, Melbourne based)

The quality is ok. For $2k, it's a good price.
There are very few reasonable quality ebikes for under $3k. If you can afford more (i.e. $3k up), I would not settle for this brand. We own a Lekker ebike (not off road) that is far better quality. But was over $3k. I have converted my old GT mountain bike with a mid drive. 1000W BBHD bafang. It is 1000x better than this bike 😉. But the conversion alone was $2500!

It's is street legal in all states and I have not been able to 'hack' the 25km/h limiter.

    • If I were to use this for commuting to work, because it doesn't have guards would I be covered in mud and dirt when I got to work?

  • I have converted a number of mountain bikes using mid-drive motor conversion kits. With a decent mountain bike as the donor, the cost has been over $2,500 so this looks to be a good deal. Main issue I have is I cannot find any specs on the fork or the motor. I am guessing it is a cheap coil fork and the motor is probably a Bafang which are reliable although they are not torque motors which in my opinion are superior. This bike is an OK starter e-mountain bike but with a cheap fork and no rear suspension, is only suitable for riding milder trails.
