Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6400 Graphics Card $195 + Delivery @ Crox

110

This bad boy is a low profile single height graphics card, good for 1080p gaming.

Shipping is standard $10 or Express $15 to Sydney

Advantages:
- Low profile single height can turn your dusty Dell refurb into a budget gaming PC or optimise your 5L SFF build
- No extra power connector needed, only consumes up to 55W
- Fits in one hand and doesn’t burn down your house like a 4090

Disadvantage:
- Does not have encoding capability but this may not matter to some if you have a CPU with integrated graphics already e.g. 5600G.
This would affect streaming e.g to Discord or to Twitch but playing most videos should be fine.
- Only 2x ports HDMI and DisplayPort 1.4
- Not amazing value when compared to current full size GPU prices unless you really need this form factor

Supported Rendering Format
HDMI™ 4K Support - Yes
4K H264 Decode - Yes
4K H264 Encode - No
H265/HEVC Decode - Yes
H265/HEVC Encode - No
AV1 Decode - No

For the same price u can get a 6500 xt that gives %20+ performance

    • +11

If you care about price/performance, you would buy neither. This exists solely for being a low profile card, whereas the 6500XT has no reason to exist.

      • +1

        I second that.

But seeing how price shouldn't be a problem for ITX builders, getting something like the 3060 Aero itx card is a much better choice. ITX builds aren't budget and i dont see why you need to buy a crap card.

Or if budget is tight, perhaps get the gtx 1650 LP. A little more money for much better performance

        • +5

It's not just for ITX; this will go into one of those cheap second hand office PCs that are advertised on here every other day; and if you don't mind playing older games then you've got a 1080p gaming solution for about $350.

@jong: Ah i see. Didn't think of that

          • @jong: I wonder how much better this rx6400 (edit: at pcie v3 bandwidth) is compared to the iGPU in the common dell optiplexes, eg i5 6500, 7500, etc. If it's not significantly better i'm not sure it would be worth it - the i5 7500 in my optiplex runs older games and emulators fine already.

            • @ssfps: I was thinking more about this and looked up a few benchmarks, I see the rx6400 is actually considerably better than the intel iGPUs from that era.
Intel HD 630 on pubg @ low settings, 1080p: ~25fps avg
              RX6400 on pubg @ low settings, 1080p: ~75fps avg
So, i guess it does make a big difference for SFF builds.

    Worst deal.

    Try this rather (6500XT $195): https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-radeon-rx-6500-xt-mech-2x-4…

your alternative is not a low profile card.
(deal) 170x56x17mm vs 172x112x42 mm (yours)

Not everyone has regular size desktop PCs. This is currently the best low profile single slot card you can get. Good for those Dells that due to their stupid PCIE slot positioning only let you use a single slot low profile card, for example.

      • omg, i hate dells/hp so much for doing this sort of crap.

  • +2

For those wanting a decent card for a single slot, low profile machine, this is about the best card you can get.

So trying to push people to a 6500XT is not an option for such users.

I bought one for my HP EliteDesk SFF, and paired with an Intel i5-8500 it does a stellar job. The fan managent is excellent, and it works a treat for all games (although some more modern games at lower res/quality)..

I'm wondering if Nvidia will refresh their low profile this generation, maybe a 4030 GTX (non RTX).

  • They need to bring down the prices of these LP cards..

1650 LP is around $250, how does this compare?

    • +4

The 1650 is better as it has a video encoder and won't suffer from running on PCIE 3.0, whether that's worth the extra cost you have to decide.

But this does highlight the reality that trying to turn a cheap ex-office SFF PC into a gaming PC isn't as cheap as it initially seems

  • I bought one for a 3L PC build, but it was the xfx model. The card actually does run well, especially when you get FSR running. It is extremely loud though.

AMD reportedly got rid of the Review program and launched this card silently to avoid embarassment after the 6500xt.

For the most part, it is beaten by a GTX 1650 from 3 years ago. Especially if on an older system (PCIe 3.0). Which you'll probably be on, if this is your only option.

Overclocking is apparently also disabled, so forget about squeezing more out.

Normally a fan of AMD's cards, but given the RX 6600 (non LP) is (too expensive) at $299, more than doubles the performance, and doesn't have bandwidth problems or limited overclocking - this is an awful choice IMO.

  • Hi Guys,
I am looking for a cheap gpu that can be used on pc with a 4k screen (Dell s2721).I use it every now and then for editing small clips from Sony A7iii.
    Thanks!

It beats a 1050 Ti low profile by a fair margin at least. Loses a lot of performance if not paired with PCI-e 4.0 like all the old oems you guys paid $100 for now want to soup up for a portable gaming PC. You should probably just hold out for a low profile 1650 to come near this price though, as even now on EBAY they are one coupon away from being very close.

Currently $248 delivered with code PLUSFLASH2 Link to ebay listing

Even at that price I'd go the 1650.

After all that being said, you are severely gimped going low profile. I've got one and i can tell you it isn't that great except for being a portable rig. Unless you need a cheap backpack PC, just forget about it.

    • Agree the 1650 is generally the better buy, though it doesn't exist as single slot LP which may be required for existing SFF office PCs.
I know for sure many Optiplex SFFs only have room for single slot PCI-E card, even with two spaces on case back.

  • will this work in the DELL 3040 i5-6500 | 8GB | 128GB ?

    • If its the SFF version (with dvd drive) then yes it should work fine

      • Thanks op! Pulled the trigger!

  • So I run a HP desktop i7 8700 with the onboard card connected to my LG CX Oled will this increase my viewing pleasure watching downloaded 4k videos, prime videos, YouTube etc? As I still find if I use the inbuilt TV apps or stream to the TV inbuilt media player the picture is crisper.
    thoughts?

    • Your 8700 already supports 4K so it should not be any crisp-ier with an RX6400.

It looks like the 8700 onboard card supports:

      Displayport: 4K @ 60Hz
      HDMI: 4K @ 24Hz

I would first check the PC display settings are set correctly for 4K. Else, try a displayport to hdmi adapter cable from PC to TV and see how it goes if you aren’t already.

      • Purchased it any way hopefully Ill see a performance increase and I assume ill get 10 bit color with this as currently I only get 8bit

  • This is perfect for a cheap Linux build on an old office machine. It's for when you want to run Proton on Steam but where integrated graphics won't cut it.
Linux support is all the more important on older desktops that won't go beyond Windows 10
AMD's graphics support on Linux works out of the box. Nvidia, not so much…
