Good find, sadly code doesn't work on the newer Gen6Detect but great price on the v15

    • You mean gen5

      • +1

        He's absolutely right

    • Confused by the naming convention. Have they dropped a simple numbering system?

      • Yup, they started back at Gen5Detect.
Presumably they'll all have detect lights from now on .
Seems the biggest change is no more trigger to operate, rather it's just an on/off button

        • +1

Detect refers to the piezo sensor in the machine which converts the vibrations of debris it picks up into electric signals that help control the adaptive suction. Main idea is that it sets the suction based on particles that you can see, and that are too small to be visible so you have a higher quality clean.
Chances are: 23% more suction than v15, 2x brighter illumination on fluffy head, higher grade HEPA filter, button, redesigned interface to more clearly inform you when the floor is clean. The extra suction makes a difference mostly for non motorised tools like the crevice tool, I tried it out on my car and it is a very noticeable performance jump in suction, feels much more like a good corded vacuum in suction now

          • @Anthropomorphised: And the on /off button. 😜
Jokes… Awesome summary of changed mate, quite a leap forward it seems
Still holding onto my V11 and may jump onto the next Gen cycle in a year I reckon

      • +2

The gen5 has the 5th generation motor design, for reference v10-15 use iterations of the 4th generation design. Basically it’s just to denote that the motor design was clean sheet, enabling higher efficiency, higher suction and more power density.
I’d have loved for the v numbers to remain, but they were already becoming confusing for some with models like v12 less powerful than v11.

        • Also other manufacturers and knockoffs started using the V numbers to confuse buyers more.
          I'm good with a refresh

  • sadly, V12 is not…

  • +1

    v15 is revolutionary, must have

    • How so

    • +2

"must" seems a bit of a stretch for what is essentially an extremely expensive vacuum, lol.

      • youd be suprise how much vaccuums are just 10 years ago..

  • Great price possibly cheapest so far

  • +1

    Plus 10% Cashback ?

  • $1035.20 here in QLD. $1294 minus $258.80 discount.

    • $70 in store cash when spend $800 or more

      • +2

Yes but you can't use that to pay for the vacuum itself unless you buy a second one.

        • And you have to sign up for their digital wallet app to claim it (from my understanding). Please correct me if I'm wrong

        • yes thats the problem. but still a very good deal for v15. +10% Cashrewards maybe

        • +2

Buy a second and return the first?

          • +1

            @Royale with cheese:

Buy a second and return the first?

If you could do that you might as well buy 15 and return them and claim a free vac. ;)

    • Yeah, it was the same for me, had to opt for delivery as there was no local stock

      • Delivery option doesn't seem to let me add an address and there's no stock in SA

  • OP which store you are getting $920?

  • +11

imagine telling people pre-Dyson that a near $1000 non-commercial vacuum cleaner would be considered a "bargain"

    • -2

      Telephones?

  • +3

Thanks OP, bought one to replace my annoying Dreame T20 after less than 2yrs of usage.

    • +1

so disappointed by the dreame - after sales support was not fantastic either imo

    • I agree. I was excited about the T20 when I first bought it but it was completely underwhelmed when i started using it.

    • Mine is relegated to shed duty. Totally disappointing

    • Glad I’m not the only one how hates their t20, I thought it was just me

    • what's is the common user problems with the T20 or the Dreame series?

      • Maybe it's not so great on carpet?

I found that a corded Dyson vacuum absolutely smashes the dream T20, whether it be floorboard or carpet.

From my own experience, once you have done a deep vacuum of the floors, the dreame T20 is good for a quick daily once over.

  • +6

people who think paying nearly a grand for a vacuum is some kind of bargain!

    LOL.

    Edit: Prepping for downvotes ………

    • +1

      Suckers!

I'd rather buy 20 $50 kmart vacuums over the course of the Dyson's life!

      • Obviously very anecdotal but I don't know a single person that hasn't had issues with their dyson at some point or another, their customer service is absolutely stellar though.

        • I often wonder if that's the business model? Charge a lot so there's enough cash to cover this level of customer service? I suppose that's not a bad deal hey? It's a bit of a pain to have to drag a kmart vacuum back in every few months to dispute that it sucks badly…

        • I've got two and only experienced wear and tear

        • -3

Yeah they created a new market for an overpriced item that already exists. I got my corded vacuum from cash converters for $80 , 20 years ago… still superior in every way except the cordless feature

          • +2

@Vomo: Oh man old vacuums are disgustingly good at what they do. My mum has a 20yr old nilfisk, theres like two places in the city that sells the bags for them still but she refuses to get rid of it because it does such a bang up job.

            • @doobey1231: Indeed. If people are struggling financially an old vacuum cleaner is definitely a wise decision. Not a complicated piece of equipment.

        • Anecdotally the vast majority of machines I have come back have been abused or poorly maintained. Weekly, customers bring in a v6-v8 units where the filter has gone unwashed in 4+ years of ownership.
The main issue other than that is battery degradation, which occurs most commonly in machines where users only use boost mode. This is one of the reasons most now have auto mode, it gives the best clean while managing and extending the battery’s healthy lifespan.
Don’t get me wrong, there are absolutely units that come back with genuine faults, but these make up the majority of instore issues needing remedy.

          • @Anthropomorphised: I have no doubt plenty get mistreated, seems to be the way with any serviceable product. I can confirm that these units are looked after (with the complaints starting with "I clean it out after every single use!"). Nothings infallible but at least they look after their customers.

          • @Anthropomorphised:

I have friends who had no idea the thing on top of their V6/V8 was a removable filter.

          • @Anthropomorphised: My old corded vac has a fixed material filter that I just bang out into the bin. Maintenance zero. No washing needs , no battery. I just don’t understand the modern world lol

            • @Vomo: Those filters just catch larger dust mostly, they don’t capture the smaller particles that people typically react to like pollen, pet dander etc. No hate to either way, it’s just a matter of priorities and needs

      • +2

But then you'll just be going through 20 crappy vacuums that don't suck nearly as well as the Dyson, lol. + the waste as well!

        • Yeah I was being sarcastic. Quality over quantity, unless it's for the in-laws

      • +2

And you get to spend the remainder of hookers and beer. :P

    • +2

For a stick vac that'll last 2 years..

      Crazy…

    • There's a sucker born every minute.

      Prepping for downvotes too lol.

    • Same with ppl thinking iPhone at $1300,1400 is a deal ? Crazy ppl

They must be the same people who think $2,950 for a 55" TV is a deal. :)

        • I didn't buy it :)

@botchie: You thought it was a good deal so you posted it. Crazy ppl :)

  • +1

Looks like the price for breville BES980 is jacked up too high. I should have bought it at 1700. Now even with a code its 2200.

    • maybe look at delonghi next time that one ozbargainer figures out the next 40% off corporate combination?

  • Is it worth going the absolute?

  • -1

I would not recommend to buy any of there Dyson stick vacuum due to their battery issue. We had two of those before, after few months, you start having issue of charging the battery. Paid premium for a cheap quality.

    • My V8 has been going well for several years now.

    • +3

Found a very good solution - makita/dewalt/etc to dyson adapter!

      Example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/394247688431

      • Damn i wish I had known about these before I replaced my V6 battery

      • Can anyone see a Ryobi equivalent? Searching for one is yielding adapters that convert other batteries to Ryobi tools

      • These work? My V7 animal pulses when on turbo and I don't want to spend $1000 on a new vacuum.

        • +1

Make sure you’ve washed your filters, and checked to make sure nothing is blocking airflow in the machine. That sound is the blocking protection and is designed to automatically kick on if there’s rush of damage to the motor from clogging.

        • I've ordered one - will report back when I get it.

I've recently purchased a similar Dewalt to Makita battery adapter to allow me to swap my batteries around (I have both Dewalt and Makita tools) and they're working really well for that task.

I can't see why they wouldn't work well for the Dyson - and you can hot swap the batteries rather than waiting for it to recharge.. May need to consider cooling down time for the motor (not sure) between batteries (just thinking out loud here).

    • +1

Sort of agree. However, the last 2 I grabbed from hard rubbish were simply jammed with hair behind the roller.

So the thing is working over time. But there is nothing wrong with the battery. Once hair is out it lasted around 25mins continuous…sounds about right?

Absolute crap design that allows stuff to get back there in the first place (hands off to Dyson for marketing such stink). I mean its all plastic. Would cost $25 to produce.

I paid nothing for two of them, and still not impressed. V8 ish generation I think (says Animal on it). Just picked up another (orange colour). No idea what model..same issue.

Sir James Dyson is one of my favourite people as his designs are so economical. Uses hardly any screws or metal anywhere..cost of production is bugger all..yet RRP through the roof. Genius…love the bloke!

      • +2

Absolute crap design that allows stuff to get back there in the first place (hands off to Dyson for marketing such stink).

If you think hair tangles is a Dyson-specific problem, wait till you see how poorly others perform.
Dyson has developed anti-tangle heads which looks like it works well.

I mean its all plastic. Would cost $25 to produce.

Many people don't seem to realise there's far more to the cost of a product that simply the cost of manufacturing a product. Things like R&D, prototyping, staff salaries worldwide, insurance, tax, manufacturing equipment, warranty support, shipping, retail margin for resellers… all that cost a lot of money. They also have to make a good profit as they're not a charity.

        • And those anti tangle heads are now standard across the entire core range too.
R&d alone is over $1 billion per year for reference.

  • +2

Get on this quick, the site states the code shouldn't work so technically a price error if you can sneak it through

  • Could someone comment on the experience of using this considering this is still above $1000 item? Thanks

  • Great deal thanks OP.
    Sold out in South Australia.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Ordered for pickup at Tempe and already received a txt that it's ready for collection. Also just received the cashrewards tracking emailing.

  • +1

The people saying $1000 is expensive don't take into consideraation just how much you use this this vs your old corded vaccum, the pure convenience of this thing has got me to use it slot more than I ever did with a corded vaccum cleaner.

    • +1

So is a $350 Dreame, they are just as convenient if you compare with traditional corded vaccum cleaner. However sometime it's just hard to justify the that kind of expense for a vacuum cleaner.

      • Haven't looked at them lately but pretty sure those cheap ones are imports with little to no warranty and last i checked no way to get replacement batteries, at least this was the case a few years ago when i was considering of of them.

I see now they have an Australian website https://dreame.com.au/products/dreame-t30 but $599 is not $350 and the replacement battery is also more expensive than the Dyson, no idea which is more powerful and which battery last the longest.

        • If you set the dreame to vacuum at a medium speed, it will last for about 30min or more. A high, I can get about 10-15min.

  • +2

Can someone help me understand how the price of these things is justified? I look at the amount and am just stunned that anyone is paying this much for a vacuum cleaner, particularly one that if it relies on batteries maybe has a year of peak performance before it starts to seriously dwindle and the battery needs to be replaced. What am I missing here?

    • +1

My DC16 served me for 18 years on everyday use, It died due to my stupidity - I didn't wait until it dry completely after I washed the unit, The only parts that I replaced on the DC16 was the charger and the higher capacity battery.

You tell me if Xiaomi will also serve me for 18 years?

Bought the V12 back in September 2022 deal around $845 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727462 and very happy with the V12

      • DC16 came out in 2006… So 16 years, which is still phenomenal.

    • We bought the V12 after launch, dyson rep wasnt at good guys, so we got the good guys employee to match kogan.
I think main this is the normal level is pretty much designed for tiles and laminate, you need to use high suction on carpet. Its good but only gives you 7mins to vacuum before battery dies.

Would say the V12 is about the same as a $100-200 corded vacuum, our old V5 was pretty much a $28 kmart vacuum. I assume the V15 is better still.

      • If you’d like a better balance of performance and battery life, hold down the silver button for a few seconds, it’ll then show a menu where you can select motor sensitivity. If you turn that too high, the adaptive suction will boost the power more regularly but will help avoid you needing to manually set suction to boost mode. This should give you a deeper carpet clean and improve your battery life and extend the battery lifespan compared to using boost mode all the time. For reference v15 was the highest suction cord free vacuum of any brand when it came out, with 53% more suction than V12, which it’s much more intended for smaller apartments and those willing to sacrifice performance for light weight.

    • V11-15 use a 91Wh battery which has minimal degradation compared with older models due to the higher capacity and extra battery cells. Anecdotally I’m still getting 60-70 minutes of hardfloor cleaning with these batteries with the fluffy head, and no noticeable loss of battery life on higher modes than when new 3 years ago. If the battery did die you would have 24 month warranty and ACL protection for a reasonable period too.

  • Great find! They also have the Dyson Omni-Glide for $435 with code FRENZY. This is Dyson's hard floor vacuum, and it retails for $699.

I'm in Sydney and the only locations for pick-up are hundreds of kms from me, but if you're in a less populated area you might be able to nab one.

  • -1

Steer well clear of Dyson. Poor quality for the price you’re paying. Completely over-engineered and overrated, with poor quality battery and performance.

Edit: I own one of these

    • I own a Dyson V8. Quality is fine for a vacuum. Works well, battery still works after several years, performs much better than my old Electrolux and my Bosch 18V cordless vac.

At work we needed some cordless vacs to supplement the Dyson V6 we've been using for years. I thought I'd try a Bosch Series 6 and an Electrolux Ergorapido. The build quality on the Electrolux was poor - it wasn't long until the stick flexed so much that it lost electrical connectivity to the detachable vacuum itself so the vacuum could not be switched on from the stick. The Bosch just didn't suck very well. We went back to Dysons.

      • -1

I second this, I got a Dyson v8 for home 6 months ago and just the other week got a v8 for work and they're both great. Had one part (wand) break (due to misuse actually…) And Dyson sent a new one no questions asked for free.

Great product and exceptional service, shame @Jigram had a bad experience. Did you reach out to Dyson to resolve an issue you were having? Or have you found a cheaper, better performing alternative?

  • -1

Not available to pick up here in western Melbourne.

  • +4

Just purchased the Dyson. Tracking for cashrewards is showing straight away.

Wasn't available for delivery, closest store was 85+ kms away.
After placing order, called store and they were happy to have the item delivered for $10.

    Might help someone else.

  • I had just bought the V15 and it is excellent but have to say when the Gen5 came out I returned it within the 30 days. The Gen 5 has a much brighter light and solves the problem of having to press all the time.

In saying that the V15 is awesome and think started the revolution of vacuums. You can see so much stuff with the light and awesome to vacuum in the dark/at night, also easy to clean. Countdown timer on battery is also awesome.

For me I can’t wait to the Gen 5 is discounted. Also want them to release spare batteries asap.

Just to comment further based on comments above.
    - my comment is based on hard floor use but assume it is fine on carpets.
    - It is very easy to use/store etc. and of course quite light.
    - agree on the comment that you use it more. The light is revolutionary - hard to explain but even when you think a floor is clean, this will show you everything (that you cannot typically see) and makes it a lot more focused in terms of cleaning, etc.
    - got a spare battery and found it v useful but it is not compatible with the gen5detect.
    - is it worth $1k? Not an easy question for me to answer, I’d say the gen5detect is worth what it is but the ozbargainer in me is waiting for a discount. If the gen5detect was not available I’d take it for 1k in a heartbeat.
    - I went into a Dyson store to look at the gen5detect and they put it side to side to V15 and compared light etc. Whilst newer model is brighter, it is slightly heavier.
    - you maybe ok with the v15 trigger rather than button - I have RSI and there’s devices to hold the v15 trigger

  • Since I need a light weight vacuum for mainly hardfloor / light work
would wait for v12 to come under $800 mark

    • Waiting for the gen5 to be about same price as this one. Maybe when the gen 6 is out
