I have this - super impressed with the build quality and how well things come out in it. This was the price I paid and about right to take a gamble if you're not sure how much you'll use it.

    • I've an AF that has trays/shelves oppose to a basket, in reality how big is this one and how practical? Like what's the max amount of food you can fit in the basket at once? Enough for 2-3 people?

      • It's about 1 average chook for size.

I put 1 and a half chickens in mine but they are smaller birds.. everyone wants a damn breast use the legs for sandwich meat..

      • Some food cooks when stacked well (e.g. fries), others need to be level (e.g. chicken breast). I would say it can cook enough for 2-3 people. What we (2 people) do is do multiple batches, e.g. chicken then fries. A multi-tier basket would be pretty useful, I believe there are some genuine accessories (hard to find) which can help with this.

    • Has the non-stick remained non-stick? I bought the Kmart one, thought it was amazing until food starting sticking (like hand cut oiled potato chips).

      • +1

Approx 2 years old , used regularly and its still as new. Hand wash most times, don't use dishwasher with it as much as wasn't convinced that the chemicals in the tablets would have an impact to the surface over time.

Anything with liquid use a container or some foil to catch it for a more easier clean post cooking.

        • I doubt the dishwasher will have any adverse affect. I've got a Tefal pan that I've only handwashed with non scratch sponges, and it's wearing out the finish.

If it's a good product to begin with, shouldn't matter.

          • @TEER3X: dishwater tablets are abrasive, wil definitely wear out the non stick coating, non scratch blue sponges are also actually too abrasive for non stick pans, i’ve experimented with this for ages, dish washer made my pans last the shortest time, then sponges.
Now i use one of those dishwashing nets for my non stick pans and they last for years, the best is to avoid soap at all and just use a wet paper towel to wipe it down and hot water to remove the grease.

I also found that if you use the pan for high temp cooking (ie any cooking that doesn’t have a lot of water content) like steak, or light frying (stir frys are ok) it will reduce the lifespan of the pan, but recently i discovered it’s maybe because i put it under the tap while the pan is still too hot and the temperature shock cause the non stick to not last as long.

While i still use non stock for steak as it’s much more convenient, i now let it cook down before i put any water on it and it has lasted 1.5 years so far

        • How do you wash the mesh without using the dishwasher?

I had an older phillips airfryer that would just shred sponges. I have found taking the mesh panel out and putting it in the dishwasher along with the basket have been really good at keeping them clean (~10 washes so far).

          • +2

@Domingo: I just use a brush soaked in morning fresh and hot water.

      • It has so far, probably used about 15-20 times. Parents have a much older one with a lot of use and that has been fine hand washed.

I suppose in buying a well known brand there's easier to find spares than with Kmart / supermarket ones.

      Life changing.

Cook frozen chips in the time your conventional oven has heated up.

Fresh food like chicken, salmon you won't touch the oven or frying pan again.

Roast potatoes and veges in a fraction of the time an oven

      You know you want one!

      • +5

I might be crazy but I bought one for our family based on your mini-review. :)

  • Bought, insane price if everything goes through!

What's this like to clean .. quick and easy, or not so? I have the Woolies Mistral cheapie and it's a pain to clean.

    • Chuck in dishwasher

    • +1

It's a pain, if you had a dish washer it would be bloody easy.

    • I pop mine in the dishwasher and after the dog has finished her "pre-wash" I use "pots and pans" mode on my Bosch for sparkling clean.

I just got the tracking email for $48.39. I will update the calculations.

    • How long it took for tracking email? Was it instant

      • +3

I received the tracking email 1hr after order placed

    • Any ideas why it doesn't stack up to 13.5%?

      • +2

        It isn’t paid on GST

  • Thanks OP. Just bought one and lodged the cashback claim with Philips.

    • How’d you get the invoice so quick?

      • +1

T&C say you can use the order confirmation

  • Is this the best deal for an air fryer? I've never owned one.

Mainly looking to cook 700-900g of chicken for meal prep.

    • +2

I bought the woolies mistral small one for $30 or so for a while to see if I liked them, which I did (including for ensuring chicken is cooking through) and decided to also buy this one a few months later. I use both now regularly, but you might perhaps like to take a similar approach to see if you make any use of it. The main advantage of this one over the $30 is better build quality, bigger (fit more food), less sticking, more even cooking (more important for roast vegetables than chicken imho), more modes. Risk is you decide you like it and want the better one and have missed the deal.

      • +1

$30 vs $250 is a huge difference hahaha

    • +3

"Best" is relative. I'd say one of these which I found on the side of the road for free is best: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/836521400638966.

I use it several times a week, there's always one on Facebook Marketplace for $20/$30, they're huge compared to air fryers with draws, particularly if it's one that came with the stainless steel extension ring, and 99% of them have the exact same bowl, just have a cosmetically different electrical top part. (So if it breaks or you drop the bowl it's easy to pick up another one for $20 from another person who doesn't know what they have.)

I really, really HATE kneeling down to clean house ovens. These glass bowl types are dead easy to clean standing up. I only just stumbled upon an even easier way to clean them when reading the booklet of a really expensive brand (which is pointless paying more for because they all do the same thing)… You squirt dish detergent in, 1/4 fill the glass bowl with hot water (enough so the top of any racks you used are covered - turn tall racks with legs upside down so the water isn't right up against the electrical head part), turn the temp dial up a bit (I've used both 100 and 150 degrees so far), and set the timer for say 20 minutes. The fan swishes the hot water and suds in a circulating "wave" loosening any baked on splatter on any racks you used and the glass bowl. So you do the dishes when that cycle is nearly complete but don't pull out the plug yet. Timer goes off, remove and put the rack/tray/whatever you used in the dishwater, and wipe the liquefied grease off with a dishcloth and rinse. Then pull the drain plug out, tip the glass bowl water down the sink, and wash and rinse the bowl while any splatter is still soft.

Having said that I don't wash the bowl or racks every time. If I'm reheating coated things like nuggets or battered fish, I only clean the bowl once a week. With so many people selling them for $20 online I haven't bothered unscrewing and cleaning the aluminium plate on the top half yet. (It's a round metal plate with holes in it attached by four phillips head screws.)

It really only "needs" cleaning when you do something like roast meat. The rest of the time I don't bother. If it's been cleaned and I'm going to heat crumbed/coated stuff like nuggets or battered fish, I put a square of foil in the bottom first, and sort of spin it around against the curved outer edge of the glass bowl while pressing with my finger, making a curved and raised outer edge to catch oil the food was cooked in at the factory. Then I put a wire rack on the foil and the food on the rack. The foil then catches and holds any oil from the nuggets etc so the bowl stays clean longer. Toss the foil out once every week or two instead of cleaning the entire bowl every time.

It's producing the best roast pork I've cooked. Score the fat with a knife at about 1.5cm gaps, dry it all over with paper towel (then leaving in the fridge overnight makes it even better but I don't have time)… so I just wipe oil on next and sprinkle with salt. Then on a wire rack for 15 minutes at full heat, then turn down to about 180 and wind the timer all the way up again to a full hour. I've done 5x boneless pork roasts from Coles so far (about 2kg) and they've all come out cooked great. It used to take at least 40 minutes longer in the 1970s/80s house oven, required turning partway or you'd only get half the crackle, and I had to check internal temp with a digital thermometer. Now it's just 1h15m and it's always done without the temp probe needed.

As far as I can see (so far anyway) the only benefit to these digital ones in this deal is they have programs, the main one probably being one to keep acrylamide levels down (e.g. with chips) as mentioned in this video, but which also gives a manual way of keeping those levels down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqcuskaReug.

  • Hi, silly question, what is the different between HD9650/93 vs HD9861/99?

    • +1

“With Smart Sensing technology, it is the only Airfryer that automatically adjusts time and temperature during cooking for perfectly cooked dishes.”

      • +1

thanks mate, is that worth upgrading and getting the more expensive one?

        • +3

Hey mate, I've got the more expensive one and never use the "Smart Sensing" crap. Know two others with it, they never use it as well. I just set the temp, timer and done. I do admit I like the looks (literally just colour) of the pro model but it's up to you whether you want to pay extra for that….

        • +1

We have the HD9861/99. It's great but in hindsight, I would have saved the extra money and bought this one.. You do get an extra rack with the HD9861/99 but we've never used it.

This is the only AF that we've ever owned so don't have a reference point to know if there's better models out there, although Philips have a reputation for being good.

  • This is approximately 7L. Doesn't seem particularly big. Would I be better off with one around 12L so I can spread the food out more?

    • The bigger the better

How does this compare with the Aldi one for sale this week? https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-12-…

    • +1

7.3 litres capacity vs 5 litres for the Aldi one, don't know about the quality or reliability.

Are we still eligible for this cashback if we claimed on Father's day cashback before?

I’d say we are after going through T&Cs

  • +1

Finally bit the bullet so that I can make the kids chicken nuggets faster. Peak parenting.

    • +1

Stuff the kids , I cook a whole pack of Steggles nuggets for myself in record time haha

    • Microwave is faster

  • Does anyone own both and recommend the smart version over the regular version? I like the look of the smart version, but whether it’s worth $100 more is debatable.

    • +1

    • +1

I have the non smart version and it is a pain in my butt half the time.
It has an analogue rotating timer and at least half the time I'll set it to e.g. 15mins and then it will just stop ticking and turn off with like 5mins to go on the timer. The other 50% of the time it works every time!
      Regrets.

    • +1

i learnt my lesson not to buy anything with too many sensors especially in small form factor. many can go wrong e.g switch becoming not sensitive, sensor failed causing unit not to function etc, the basic model definitely is the go in my opinion

  • Damn. Used CR instead of SB
    Only getting $7.26

    • +1

Repurchase and refund the first one??

  • I notice Amazon sell a lot of extra accessories for this machine. Any of them useful?

    • And what are they?

    • We use the snack cover, and the double layer shelf a lot (often both at the same time). The baking tray is very handy for things like lasagna. The pizza tray we use only sometimes, but works well when we do. The grill and skewers we rarely use. Don't own the breakfast kit.

If I had to buy them again, the snack cover, double layer, and baking tray, are the ones we'd buy again for sure.

We use the airfryer more than our oven though.

HD9651 vs HD9650? Anyone know the difference?

  • fantastic. bought one. can i leave my old philip air fryer at salvation army? do they take used kitchen appliances?

    • +1

If they don't, I've had a good run with giving old appliances away on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. You'd be surprised what some people want.

    • +2

If you’re on Facebook your local buy nothing group might be another place to offload.

    • +1

You can leave it at my front door. I'm not proud.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Was going to purchase, but luckily I checked here otherwise I would have missed the cashback.

  • It has over 1,000 reviews on there!

I spose it must be worth it over cheaper ones!

    • They are very solid built and has higher power when compare to others so cook things more evenly and gives you better results.

  • +1

Given that an air fryer is basically a heat gun on a bucket, can someone explain why this costs $400 when you want buy cheapos for $50. What does it do different? Not trolling, trying to work out why its many times the price.

    • -2

You get what you paid for. And this one is $250 not $400.

      • That doesn't explain anything. What exactly does it do different or better? If the answer is it's "better made" - what does that mean? It performs better, looks nicer, will last longer?

I ask because as a device they seem very basic and cooking performance doesn't seem any different as far as I can tell.

It's normal price is $400. That is how it is normally valued, not some amazing discount price.

  • Bonus cashback has ended unfortunately , probably be back on sale during black friday.

I spose I'll wait for Black Friday or Boxing Day, I'm in no rush

    • I must be reading it wrong? "The promotion commences at 9:00am AEDT on 1st November 2022 and ends 11.59pm AEDT on 24th December 2022 (‘Promotional Period’). All claims must be submitted (online) by 5pm AEDT on 24th January 2023."

      • The rebate from Philips is still in play, but Shopback was also offering bonus cashback on top that finished at 4pm AEDT

  • Is there a list of stores with the $100 cash back I can purchase from? Can't find any lists.

    Is amazon on it?

    • +1

Go to the website and start a claim, there's a dropdown which I'm assuming is a list of eligible retailers.

    • +1

yes amazon is on the list

  • I was tossing up whether to get the smart version (for auto cooking chips, fish, drumsticks, whole chickens) but went with the regular version. Bought the XXL Grill Master Kit and XXL Party Master Kit with the $100 I saved. Both accessories came to $78.40 (20% off using the promo code FRENZY) + 6% cashback from ShopBack.

  • May be worth asking TGG to price match against Amazon, and pay using either Ultimate / TCN gc purchased at 10-15% discount? Although the cashback for TGG is only 6% as opposed to 13.5% (Myer), but may work out roughly 2.5%-7.5% cheaper overall?

Also am very happy with my purchase on this AF, strongly recommended!

  • +2

The cashback from SB seems to have ended at 4pm

    • +1

yup, i just checked SB cashback finished at 4pm.

  • Thanks for sharing it and the insight from the rest, bought the one that's noted as "Click & Collect" along with the accessories to go with it from The Good Guys with the saving made along the SB…!! looking forward making use of it to enjoy a "healthy" home made meal :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Missed the bonus SB cashback but bought one anyway. :)

  • Missed this deal.
Any idea I can get this at $399 today?

    • +1

      Amazon is $389

    • +1

David Jones also has it on sale for $399. You can also get cashback via CR or SB.

  • My Philips cashback claim is validated. Will take up to 8 weeks to get the $100.

    • thanks for reminder. I will get started on it today.

    • my claim got rejected, did you pick up your order or deliver? I chose deliver and I only got the 'Your Order Is On Its Way' email. Haven't received any pdf invoices

      • Mine was delivered. I received the order confirmation not long after placing the order.

      • Ordered online & claim for Philips is also approved.

      • Does your Your Order is On Its Way email have Tax Invoice up the top of it? I used that one rather than the order confirmation email and mine was approved.

        • yeah I used the Your Order is On Its Way email I guess you guys did it earlier. I submitted the claim this week after I received the order. See the last comments in this page

          • @RichardF89: I just had claim money deposited in the account today

            • @s0805: Me too, much quicker than I thought it was going to take. I haven’t even unboxed my air fryer yet!

              • @Chickenleg: lol…same here. Still haven't opened if in Black Friday i get cheaper may return this one…

  • Oh they jacked the price 🤣

Just wait for a Black Friday, it may even be cheaper!

  • Been eyeing for a while, finally pulled the trigger! Thanks OP!

  • Sent my order confirmation as the claim but got rejected even though it has all the details listed. Anyone else get this?

    • same here. order confirmation is the only thing I got and contacted the customer service this is the only thing they can give

      • I think we missed the invoice number
