Looking for something sub 1k for my 13 year old son for school. Any good or something better?

    • +1

It's an unusually good deal for these specs. Yr 13 yo may want to game, and if that's the case then something with dedicated graphics will be better and more versatile. Can be done under 1k with 16gb and an i5. This would be fine for schoolwork and web browsing tho.

Nah he can make do with his ps5 the turd

        • 😂

        • +4

          I'd make due with a PS5, if I'd ever seen one…..

        • +3

LOL. I always wondered why parents here are support to give a fk if the laptop they're giving their kid is good for gaming or not.

          • @dumdum2: I wouldnt expect a sub 1k laptop would be any good for gaming. Besides, thats what part time jobs are for right?

            • +4

@Herb Utsmellz: Yeh parents should be trying to reduce the gaming not accomodate it. Buy a laptop suitable for programming, video editing, something entrepreneurial. Although video editing capability could equal gaming haha.

            • @Herb Utsmellz: I mean, you can definitely find a deal or two once a while that has dgpu at 1k.

            • +1

@Herb Utsmellz: I guess that depends on how you define "good for gaming". Generally no dedicated card = complete crap, so it's probably fair to say anything above that could be "good" depending on yr budget and expectations.

There was an Acer Nitro 5 15.6-inch i5-11300H/8GB/512GB SSD/GTX1650 4GB Gaming Laptop $795 on here a few weeks ago. Note 4gb vram. 1650 is not a terrible gpu. That's not going to give you 4k but it will definitely run a (profanity) load more titles than CPU graphics will.

Thanks, pulled the trigger on 2. $832 delivered… cant be too bad for the price.

I've never used the UK site, do I need to create another account and will they ship to Australia directly?

    • +4

You can sign in using your AU account and it works fine! If you have your address and card payment details saved it will transfer across. Only thing that doesn't is your Prime membership.

  • Does this have GST on invoice therefore can be claimed if travelling within the next 60 days?

    .

    • -1

Maybe no extra tax if under 1k?

    • +1

It wouldnt as Amazon UK is the one selling it direct to you.

  • +6

This laptop is usually $500 at Bing Lee, maybe wait for black friday for something bit better

    • +2

Yeah and the UK keyboard is unfortunately not for me.

  • Wondering if one can buy from Amazon.uk through amazon.com.au but deliver somewhere else in Europe?

    • u wanna buy something that comes from amazon.uk but using amazon.au? there are a lot of things where u buy on amaz.au that come from uk, however if ur gonna send it somewhere else thats not even in australia, wouldn't that incur additional shipping fees, that is if it can even deliver to Europe in the first place?

If ur sending it to someone just let them buy it through their own amazon then wire the money to them, or something.

    • +1

You should be able to do it. On my app I change the country, buy with my usual card and they deliver in that country. Have done it in 2 countries already with no issues.

  • +11

Australian's use the US keyboard, this has the UK layout. The most obvious caveat is the lack of a $ dollar symbol.

    Difference between US/UK keyboards

    • +1

      Can function it into$or no?

      • +2

Yeah just change the keyboard layout settings

    • Yeah but it just means the stickers have the wrong label essentially after you change the keyboard layout.

Not a dealbreaker for everyone i guess

    • +1

From that image $ dollar is in the same place for US/UK keyboards.

  • +1

Ryzen or go home, still a very good price.

  • Why i3

    • +3

The same reason why it's less than $400 and not $4000 dollars.

    • +1

These processors are designed with cheap price points, while still retaining the power of the Intel Core line. As such they (along with Intel's i5 series) are often found in laptops and low-end desktop computers.

  • 1.8KG and 10th Gen

Comparable pricing is $598 at the House of Gerry

For $434, a decent clearance deal

    • +1

      Do you mean $900?? Thanks.

  • Is there free shipping with Prime ?

  • What is the exact number of the i3 processor ?

    • I would guess i3-1005G1

  • +2

GUYS THERES A $89 DELIVERY FEE

  • -1

DO NOT BUY these. The keyboard is in UK and it has pound and two symbols are in the wrong location.

    • I think the @ is not in the usual place.

  • also its a dual core
