70-80MB/s after 1TB write as per the review.

    • then just dont move 1tb files lol. make it 999gb and u wouldnt lose anything

    • I don't understand the point of these shitty QLC SSDs. There are always posts from people getting bitten by the fake marketing speeds propped up by a fast SLC cache.
If you want bulk archival storage, just buy a HDD for less then a quarter of the price per TB. Cheaper still if cold storage (SMR) is okay.
If you need fast storage, don't get a QLC drive.
If you need to write lots of data this century, don't get a QLC drive.

So, what use are people buying them for? Is it just ITX tax for when you can't fit a 3.5" or 2.5" drive?

      • People are buying them to use as fast storage drives, quite happy in the knowledge that the number of times they're going to continuously write more than 1TB directly from another SSD is zero 🤷🏼‍♂️

        It's a total none issue.

Sequential write speeds are only one use-case of an SSD (and I would argue that it's a particularly niche use-case).

It's a pretty unsophisticated way to look at storage needs - just "fast" and "slow"?

It depends on what you mean by fast - if you're talking about sequential writes, then yes, don't get a QLC drive.

However, there are plenty of use cases where the vast majority of disk activity will be reads, or, if random performance matter more than sequential performance. For example, I often work with very large datasets. Most of what I'm doing are reads, and random writes, and only very rarely make large sequential writes.

Even on my gaming PC, I have a 2TB Crucial P1 for use as a game drive, which is a QLC drive. My games load far more quickly than if I were to store them on a HDD, and I've never once had to do sequential writes of 100GB+ in the entire time I've owned the drive.

    • Unless you're using this drive for giant backup images of other SSDs, then that's not a limit you're ever going to hit in normal use.

  • Single sided or double sided?
