91

Came through on email as part of '5 Day Price Madness'. I've had success with the $10 port in credit in the past - try your luck if you do sign up.

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G 128GB (580945) $0 Upfront on $99 per month plan - 300GB Data (200gb + 100gb bonus) Unlimited Talk and Text (Australia). Minimum cost $2376 over 24 months.

Curious to know if anyone has managed to successfully return the phone for RRP ($1249) and purchase another device.

Way too expensive if you don't use 300gb per month, but not bad if you use between 20 and 300.

For those who have enough cash now and use as little as 10gb per month, it'd be cheaper to buy S22 for $1050 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/732191) and pay $600 for boost pre-paid SIM for two years ($300+$300, or ~$240 + $10 + $240 for those who can get discounted packs and port out in between).
Total cost is $1650 vs $2376 with this deal.

    • Minimum $1.3k right now is hardly change. Agree that's its cheaper to buy outright IF you have the cash.

Ideally I'd like to know if anyone has managed to return the Samsung for full RRP, buy an iPhone and take advantage of the port in credits.

      $1749 (iPhone 14 Pro 128) - $1249 (Samsung Galaxy S22) = $500

      $2376 - $480 (24* $20 Telstra Port In credit) = $1896

      $1896 + $500 = $2396

$99 P/M for 24 months for the latest iPhone Pro and 300GB of Data.

Yes buying the phone outright and getting a boost plan WILL be cheaper - but I don't want to take the financial hit in one go.

      • iPhone is not a replacement for Galaxy S, they are completely different devices for different purposes. But the scheme you suggest is clever :)

Word of warning: I bloody loved the S22 in almost every respect. It was so close to the perfect phone for me. Small, light, fast, amazing fingerprint scanner.

However, the battery was absolutely laughably bad. I would literally have a dead phone by 1pm with no explanation in any of the battery usage menus and a screen on time of about 2hrs. I went to Samsung and their 'solution' was to turn battery saver on all the time. Disabling not only all the premium features, but the basic features you expect in every phone these days.

After a battle I returned it to Telstra. Their system could barely handle "there's nothing wrong with this phone but it's not fit for purpose" but I got there in the end.

Your mileage may vary of course. But I would stay away from this phone if you use your phone… at all….

    • I had this at the start and looked up all the ways to improve it by disabling bloatware and putting apps that don't use notifications in deep sleep and it's great now. Full day use and 50% battery left.

BUT the camera compared to the iPhone 13 Mini I came from is terrible. Like really bad. They had such potential with the hardware but ruined themselves with the software and restrictions. I even found a way to get the Google cam on it (after 20 attempts) and even that comes out sightly better than the stock cam. Makes no sense but it is what it is. Here's hoping they realise their errors and create an update which improves the camera significantly.

      • Would you mind sharing some links or guides I can follow to improve battery life mate?
Also, I find the camera pretty impressive actually, not sure why our experiences are different in that regard haha

        • This had the best tips. I think maybe the biggest battery saver was tip #2 if you don't mind the "poorer" resolution. The deep sleep I think helped a lot too.

Here's a forum on the bad camera quality.

          Good luck!

          • @Jewdas90: The problem I had was that most of those tips disable premium features I paid for in the phone. If I want a phone with a 60hz display, lower resolution and 70% as fast processor, I can buy a cheaper phone. I think it's really poor form for people to have to disable these features in order to get a functional battery life…

            • @bobswinkle: @bobswinkle I totally agree, and tbh wish I never got it, not so much because of this battery issue but the shitty camera. These aren't the same photos as taken on different days, but in the same light and the difference in quality is very obvious. Taken with portrait mode.

Issue is I got it for $699 (256gb) through a deal like this with contract that I terminated early and now have to bite the bullet because I don't think there is any way to get that money back.

The only things I did was turn off always on display, put apps without notifications into deep sleep, and reduce the resolution and it made a big difference. The other tips I ignored.

This is not a good deal.

      That's flopus network tho.

      • When I moved to a new building in CBD I was shocked when my flopus got reception in the lifts while Telstra didn't

      • Works fine for me , your point ?

    • Says it's $249 upfront for the S22..

    • $99×24 = $2376
      vs
      $49x24+$249 = $1425

Just costs, not comparing plan and network

      • Post it! Ends 10th

I used to upgrade every two years, but finding it very hard to justify parting with my S10+ despite it being over three years old now. I feel the technological improvements have really stagnated since the onset of the pandemic, the improvements are too incremental to bother making a switch.

    • Hahaha i'm still using a samsung galaxy S4. Getting old now and reception is failing a bit. But i only use it for calls, texts and checking my bank account.
For me, this sort of phone is absolute overkill and wouldn't use it for what it's built for. A cheap phone for me it is lol

    S23 is not far away.

    • Yeah, based on rumours and past announcements, it should be announced some time in January

    Not a deal
    S22 huge fault with battery
    It’s a flop
Optus had a better deal when it comes to selling the phone and keeping the plan

  • If I port in from Optus, and I get the $1000 gift card, is that a good deal? My partner needs a new phone so saves her having to go through a contract to get one.

Or should I wait and hope there'll be a better deal for black Friday?

    • S22 is not great and yes wait till black friday

  • No i would buy outright for $850 and go with boot something for $20 Plans

  • Id consider this if it was 12 months but not 24.
Got s20fe for 0$, 99$pm 12 months 2 years ago and used the data for home internet.
