Oh good. Now I can make my own 70's cop show car chase scene
    …wocka wocka wahhh, wocka wahh

  • Thanks op, bought.
I was interested in an envelope filter, but for $30 this is worth a shot.

Any deals on a looper, or a ds1 equivalent?

  • I'm looking for fun or useful for Xmas. My daughter reads music and can play piano songs with practice. She also is comfortable with the guitar (understands the basics), and I think would do well if she was interested. Trying to get her interested, what is the minimum equipment for this to be fun?

Can you elaborate on WHAT exactly you are striving to 'make fun' for your daughter? Keyboard playing? Guitar playing? Both? Something else? If you ask a question (or questions) that is a bit clearer/more specific, I will be most happy to answer it. I have experience buying and playing all kinds of musical instruments, and sharp memories of exactly what did and did not work for me as a child while I was learning to do so.

One thing I will say right off the bat is AVOID ALL really cheap new musical instruments. These things are made so poorly that any attempt to elicit a pleasing sound from them is futile; and if you give such an instrument to a kid, they will mistakenly assume that the problem lies with them, not the piece of rubbish they have been given.

Any musical instrument bought for a child to learn on should at least be what a decent muso or music shop would classify as 'mid-range'. This rule holds true for just about any type of instrument, be it woodwind, strings, brass and reeds, or percussion.

    • the equipment don't make someone interested. gently introduce her to some shows/anime/whatever that feature cool musicians.

The invention of these so-called wha pedals that actually decide the 'wha' parameters (duration, attack, etc.) for themselves is a total bastardisation of the entire concept of a wha pedal. No seasoned electric guitarist would even classify this as a wha pedal. These things should be called something else (maybe 'bubble pedal', or sommat like that?) …

This toy might yield some 'fun little sounds', but real wha is only obtainable via a pedal that looks and is operated a bit like the accelerator pedal in a car. The 'Cry Baby' is the gold standard, but there are some reasonable cheaper alternatives out there (one made by Ibanez is surprisingly good).

  • Now just need a pairing Luigi pedal
