  • Anyone know the conversion rate for amex points to qantas points?

    • +2

Usually something like 2-1 for most airlines, but 50k is pretty low and not worth the trouble.

  • you can't transfer points earned on Amex explorer to Qantas.

    • +1

You can try your luck converting to Cathay (asia miles) and booking a Qantas award flight that way. Or cop conversion to Marriott then out to Qantas (only worth it if there's a crazy bonus)

Pretty shite deal if you only after points.

    • Yeah the ANZ black is far better for points if you are after QANTAS, however most airlines are pretty bad at the moment, with people almost losing their velocity points and QANTAS just being a poor service. Last few times I have flown Virgin you dont even get a cracker.

  • Try the referral links: just checked and my current one (in the referral system) is for 70k for the referee. You can see what the offer is when you click through, so just keep going until you get one of the better ones.

    • Same as mine.

      This is the way.

Was 240k the same time last year.

…thanks Mr horse, good to hear it straight from your mouth.

        • Points bonuses have changed, don't expect the good old days anymore.

      • Will be very surprised to see 240k anytime soon.

  • I got given 120k points just to renew my membership for a year. 50k seems very sub par

    • How did you get the retention bonus points? I need to try.

      • +1

Be real about actually wanting to cancel. Go through cancellation and when asked why u signed up initially. Say cause of the points. Then see if the operator would offer you to stay around.

        • did you wait until your annual fee is posted?

        • @Frozensage Is this on the phone call with the CS or on chat and how long ago was this.

Stinker of a deal, in my opinion!

  • 70k points last week. Hoping for 240k like last year but don’t think it will happen anytime soon.

  • +1

I have had this card for years now, it's pretty worth it generally if you travel and spend everything on this card.

    • +1

Also has the phone screen insurance. Amex via Chubb covers 90% of the cost. Claimed on this last week, claim approved within an hour. Nice perk

18 month cool off period before you can reapply for Amex cards. The 50k point deals are horrible. Wait for the 100-200k point deals.. they come around a few times every year.
