$500 refurb vs $680 brand new at TGG feels like a bit of a thin discount tbh. But a + for a well described deal!

    • +13

Thank you, it's my first time…

    • +4

The iPhone 11 as well as the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 Pro with its Max variant were discontinued and removed from Apple's website after the announcement of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro on September 7, 2022

where these stocks come from, officeworks and bigw sell these brand new iphone 11 too,

      • +6

Companies have a lot of leftover stock.

    • Paid $550 2months ago with TGG $70 concierge discount and 5% Step pay.

Only downside buying from TGG was one colour available - black.

Ive seen these before and I can assure you they are NOT REFURBISHED at all other than a quick clean
They dont even do the 32 point check, I can assure you of that too
And you will notice no mention of battery condition.
That hasnt been changed either and thats one thing you would expect to have been done with a 'refurbished" phone.

      How do I lknow?
Bought one and the camera didnt work
Sent it back after numberous emails and got a different one back with only 80% battery

It developed problems with the speaker.
Sent it back and asked for the battery to be replaced as per Apple guidance on Batteries and they refused because the phone was "working".

Worse still they only allow a single claim on the warranty which is not mentioned anywwhere

So stay well away from these "not refurbished" phones

    • $654 at JB commercial too.

  • +3

    Battery not replaced?

    • +2

30 day satisfaction guarantee. I'm guessing if you get a device with a poor capacity battery, you wouldn't be satisfied.

    • They say over 80% and the cheapest way to replace is @apple for $110 with a genuine one (third party batts are fake and the replacement done often with stuff all tools; cant recomend) ~ ALSO if it had a non genuine screen (but works touch wise, its prob LED not OLED) return for a replacement!

Not too shabby… paid around $350 on eBay last week using gift cards :)

  • +2

    Still on the X body.

    • -1

      Not great, but still decent.

      $919 - iPhone 11 Max - 256GB
      $ ? - iPhone 12 Pro - 256GB
      $ ? - iPhone 13 Mini - 256GB

…these are the decent devices to consider.
Don't go for anything below the 11 Max, in my opinion, and the iPhone 14 lineup is mostly disappointing. If you want the "latest and best" you really should wait for the Late-2023 lineup. It's what Apple is releasing for most of 2014, and these will come with a big leap in capability (new architecture, new lithography node, potentially faster/larger photography options).

      • +7

If you want the latest and best, wait 12m?

That will perpetually be true, for all tech, and you’ll never buy anything.

        • I think he means diff/year

        • +7

No, what I mean is that there are times to "buy now" and times to "wait up". For instance, the iPhone 5S lasted alongside the 6 and 6+, much longer than the iPhone 5C.

This happens because Apple rolls out updates to devices in groups, based on their capabilities. They have a reputation to uphold. The Apple A14, A15, A16, are all basically the same processor. They're in the same family. So they will all get platform updates together.

The Apple A13-Bionic was a weird one, where it's much faster than the A12 and A11, and very close to the capabilities of the A14. So I think it is a decent buy today and will age okay. Just as long as you get the Max variant, so that battery life is acceptable. The iPhone X and XS will be left behind, and they will age far worse. You can come visit this comment in several years, mark my words.

So why did I say wait, specifically, for the Late-2023 iPhone 15 ? That's because it will have the Apple A17-Bionic, which is the start of the next family of chipsets. This next-gen platform has been pushed back 1-2 years by the pandemic. What it is; it's a new architecture, and it's a full-node jump from the 6-4nm class down to the 3-2nm class.

          Apple have changed from a tick-tock 2-Year cadence, to a new 3-Year trend or possibly 4-Years. How they do this, separate their new devices from their old ones, is by spreading out the improvements into distinct groups;
          - new processor,
          - or new form-factor,
          - or new feature (camera/display/antenna/misc).

          • +1

@Kangal: This is really interesting perspective. I will wait for phones with A17 bionic processors.
            Thanks

          • @Kangal: Nice summary. I went Apple 4 to Apple 6 Plus to Apple XS. My current view is I update when the iOS updates stop.

In my case the phone is, basically, a support device for my watch and my iPad and a camera; so the thing I find most significant is improvement in camera technology.

The technology is now mature enough you don’t get, “buy one now”, improvements every year.

    720p screen I believe

      1792x828

Same as XR but it's fine IMO. My mum has the XR and I've never noticed the low resolution when I've used it for technical support.

    • if anything it's preferable for better battery life

      • Actually the Pro versions all have better battery life despite higher resolution.

        • yes but if this device had higher pixel count it would affect battery

          • @Raynes: Max version also has a bigger battery and in the end it last longer. Btw, Apple iPhones has the best battery management comparing to other phones.

        • AFAIK, iPhone 11 had better battery life than the pros.

          • @OldSchoolHarry: No it isn’t.

            Battery capacities
iPhone 11: Up to 17-hours, wireless charging
iPhone 11 Pro: Up to 18-hours, wireless charging
iPhone 11 Pro Max: Up to 20-hours, wireless charging

any deal for iphone 12 or 13 128gb?

The Antutu benchmark score of Apple iPhone 11 is 507833 points. It is better than 88% of the mobile phones as of 18th October 2022.

  • +16

I feel like this should be cheaper considering its age and the storage space.

    • -6

It's an iPhone. Will certainly outlast any Android phone from the same year.

      • +13

Can't believe there are people that believe this BS.

        • +6

Apple's marketing team doing well it seems!

        • +9

Is it BS? Most years for the last while Apple's flagship processor has been the fastest, plus they have had longer software update support than any notable Android vendor.

        • +30

iPhone 11 released in 2019 - iOS 16 just released with support for iPhones from 2017, so most likely another two-three years of iOS updates to come for the 11.

Lets take a look at some Android flagships from that era to see if they are getting Android 13.
          Samsung Galaxy S10? - Nope.
          Pixel 4? Nope.
          Zenfone 6? Nope.
          Honor 20 Pro? Nope.
          LG G8 and V50? Nope.

Say what you want, but Apple supports their devices for way longer than Android suppliers.

          • -2

@ltotapeking: U cannot upgrade limited hardware. My old Galaxy Note 4 (>8 years old) has more features than current iPhone: replaceable battery (just sent 2 spare 2 my father O/S), S-pen, microSD, IR remote, SpO₂ sensor, file system, cheap durable back replacement (fantastic plastic ;), etc. The S/W still works.

            • +3

@taki: Ain’t no way you’ve been using a note 4 for 8 years and your screen isn’t burnt in beyond all (profanity) clarity.

          • -7

@ltotapeking: But a OS major version update for Android is a much more significant change, then an IOS update. Apple are excellent at drip feeding updates (both on hardware & software) which is why they're good, because less goes wrong.

But you can't really compare the two just on OS updates. Where you could be arguing is on security updates which is where Apple wins hands down. Google only offer security updates for 3yrs are the release date. Apple is around 6yrs (so iPhones released in 2017 & beyond get IOS16).

But having said that, Apple suck, Android rulez nyer nyer nyer nyer 😝

            • +1

@M00Cow: Android updates are my pet peeve to be honest.

They change so many things in the UI that learning how to do basic things all over again is a real pita.

Just my experience, yours may vary.

          • +1

@ltotapeking: I'm not sure how we've ended up where people associate 'updates' to relevancy of your phone.

Do you not see how distorted that has become?

I got an Android phone from late 2017 that I still use. Battery health is 80%+.It doesn't need updates because all my apps are still updated and functional. I have even expanded the usage of it via third party app stores.

What would I be missing from any further phone updates? My phones not going to stop working because Google tells me it's game over.

            • +4

@plmko: It’s mainly security updates that are important, since so much personal data is stored on phones these days.

          • @ltotapeking: Pixel 4? Nope
Agree with your points, but pixel 4 will get android 13 (just not the beta)

        • +3

Still rocking an XR with the latest update.

        • When I showed my Galaxy Note 10+ battery status, today 87% with >3y intensive use the Apple store staff was stunned - "our phones' battery last much less"
Then with S-pen, micro-SD, & many other extra features, it should be 2x the price of iPnone11 & newer.
          I'm only thinking about S23 Ultra due to 2x Universal Flash Storage 4. & 200MP sensor ~ quad-pixel binning =50MP for advanced low-light photos.

          • @taki: You're lucky, I owned Note 7 got replaced/repaired 3 times within first 3 months then got a recall with credits back, phew no more Sammy..

          • +1

            @taki:

When I showed my Galaxy Note 10+ battery status, today 87% with >3y intensive use the Apple store staff was stunned - "our phones' battery last much less"

Then everyone clapped and Albert Einstein gave you $100%.

      • There's a difference between outlasting and having a good experience.
Corolla outlast any BMW on the planet.
If this phone had a 1080 OLED display the same as 12 then it would be better than 95% of Android phones at this price range.
I prefer a second hand iPhone 12 to a brand new iPhone 11.
11= XR with an extra camera. Literally the worst
value iPhone ever if bought brand new.
Dim LCD display made me hate this phone.

"Includes AC Wall Adaptor" ahh the good ol' days….

    • +2

Next year USB-C enforced by EU - better days are coming ;)

      • Thank goodness Apple finally have to give up rubbish lightning. Slower, proprietary and limited.

        • +1

But lightning was better than micro USB when first released.

        • -1

Apple's connections are what they do best. Small, reversible, snug fit. USB might be a great standard, but the implementation is terrible.
I ended up having to charge my Xperia wirelessly because of a crap connection, and I know it's a commonly replaced component on phones.

      • Hope that they remove the port

      • +1

        Not until 2024 I thought.

      • They might replace lightning with Thunderbolt 4. Equally not compatible with USB-C….

Who would buy this? I got a Iphone 13 on Ebay for $680 this week on the Shop back deal.

    • +2

Can you please share the link? Which model of iPhone 13 you got? What’s the storage capacity?

        • calculated on the GST inclusive amount for some reason

That's always the case with eBay domestic purchases (international is exclusive).

        • Thanks for the update.

          • @buddysayshi: click through the link on Shopback and you should be fine

    64 gb……

    • 128 minium is whats needed and its worth $25 in chips

      • How did you calculate that? According to my unsubstantiated view it should be at least 37.5TB.

  • Also saw the Segway Go kart @2459!

$499 for a refurb iPhone? Pixel 6A suddenly feels like a bargain.

  • +6

A iPhone that has not had a new battery replaced is not refurbished, just reset!

  • -3

And why would we buy this if they stop supporting the software by next year?

    • Anyone familiar with iPhones know they won't.

    • A13+4GB RAM will get IOS updates till September 2025 at least, and probably Sep 2026. Plenty of life left.

  • No face ID unlock for wearing a face mask, I will get one when it drops to $399.

  • +2

I just snagged a iphone 13 off of ebay for about 700. If you look around, people can be selling their phones for much less than these. Ive seen iphone 12s go for 550~600. I did have to bid for weeks though. Good luck though

    • +1

Just be wary on eBay I've bought a few not as listed, either international models or had been repaired prior poorly without disclosing. Hope you got a good one though for the price

    • +1

Used phones are different from refurbished phones

  • +2

Bought iPhone 11 64GB as 128GB was out of stock when it was on sale few months after it was released but now regret buying it. Go for 128GB at least unless you are buying for your grandparents.

    • What do you regret about the 64gb? I have a ipad mini 6 cellular with 64gb and i use it with external portable hard drive. But for day to day use outside the house I use both iphone xs and 12pro they have both 512gb. Just curious to know why 64gb for an iphone is bad, I just bought a iphone se 2020 64gb second hand for $160 recently for sibling and it needs a replacement battery which i bought on ebay for $20. I have some experience changing batteries myself for iphone 5 and 7.

      • So you want me to take external portable hard drive with my primary day to day phone? You couldn’t live with less than 512GB for your day to day phone while asking me what’s wrong with 64GB iPhone. And this isn’t iPad either.

        • I’ll see if my sibling can put up with it. Before the iphone xs and 12pro I had the iphone 7 32gb and iphone 5 32gb and it was okay at that time. Not trying to make a debate. I just came from 32gb phones before is all :)

  • iPhone 11s are pretty solid phones, yes old and specced out for around this price but if you need something reliable with good updates and don't want any pwm with decent cameras you really can't go wrong.

  • Good deal for old people

    Bought my mum one

  • +4

Why people always having ios vs Android arguments? I have used both iOS and Android phone, just buy whatever you like and lets others choose their own.
