XM5 earcups do not fold in, they only fold flat. XM4 earcups fold back in on themselves taking up less room when folded which is better if you are using them for travel.
I have xm3 and the space you saving is not that much. I much rather get a better build and design than have them folding

Headphone is good overall, battery is excellent but if you use it for work(MS Teams on laptop) and listening to music etc from personal phone at the same time(smart switching let's say when a call comes in), it doesn't work that well. Just something to be aware of if your use case is similar, not sure if the issue has been fixed on XM5.What'st he mic quality/call quality for these through MS Teams/Zoom/Google Meeting? I want a pair of these for making a lot of calls on and taking meetings, but also for personal use. Is the sound quality clear for the person I'm speaking too?

Very insightful and I appreciate that comparison, the difference between the 700's and XM4's was like night and day. I've always had my eyes on Sony XM*'s and Bose Quietcomfort **'s but would 700's or another line you could recommend suit me better? It will be predominately for music/office/calling/travel purposes, no sport or gaming.

Yes, I acknowledge they have been cheaper in the past (a search on here will obviously show you that), but from what I've been hearing it's a supply, demand and inflation thing.
Sure, they'll drop again towards the end of the year… but I don't see it going much cheaper (or many available at that price).
I'm not phased with the switching aspect, I rarely use that.
My one gripe is that they don't support low latency for gaming (they dropped aptX and aptX HD)… I'll likely still need to hardwire into my PS5 controller.
Xm5s (that are much better) were like $430 not long ago. I wouldn’t pay $395 for the old model. Xm5s will probably be at that price before Xmas
I needed some immediately and this is what I went with, shared for those in the same boat. YMMV. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing as well.
