YouTube Premium: Individual TRY ₺29.99 (~A$2.57), Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$5.14) @ YouTube Turkey (VPN Required to Sign Up)

8080

If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze (albeit a slightly higher cost monthly), especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address - took me like 10 seconds).

Google is increasing the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan etc. This means Argentina is no longer the cheapest and most OzBargainers will be migrating from Argentina other countries.

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Notes

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

    • had same issue with Argentina account. Did you get the turkey one to work?

      • I never had to. The India account, after many days of not accepting payment, started accepting it again.

    • Me too. India just failed this month. Also switching to Turkey…

  • Finally bit the bullet on this today. My YT vanced seem to have some mandatory update screen which I couldn't fix … so thought it was about time to switch. Worked like a charm!

  • NAB Card didn't work. 28 degrees no problem.
    Address not needed.

  • Hi all…
Still struggling to add my wife to family group (had the same issue when we were living in argentina before we decided half an hour ago to move to Turkey).
I updated both of our addresses to the turkey address in Google Payments. but it gives us the 'can't join family group' it looks like youre not in the same country as the person who invited you.
Using Windscribe. Any help would be Teşekkürler.

  • Oh shoot, I'm not sure if I did something wrong. So it's been a day or two after everything worked and now my main google account (not the one I did the payment) is showing me Turkish prices on everything (play store, in apps, etc). Anyone know how to fix this?

  • So I'm looking at installing the Samsung Trade in App on my mum's Note 9 but it's saying I can't due to the region….

She's currently set in with Argentina as her country with her card also reflecting that with the address.

Anything I can do to get around this problem while still keeping the YT Premium subscription?

I did similar with my dad and mine for YT, but my account is all Australian…. so not sure how I stuffed this up.

Is it just a simple matter of updating her payment method to reflect her real Australian Credit Details? or will that kill the YT subscription? or Can I add the card again (or another) with Australian details?

  • FYI for anyone else getting the "We couldn't verify your country" error when trying to sign up using PIA Turkey, I think Google have blacklisted or flagged the PIA servers.

Try using Windscribe with Chrome and it should work fine.

Looks like Argentina days are over. Just got the email below:

"Due to a recent change in Visa's processing policies in Argentina, payments may be declined if your card was not issued by an Argentine Bank. If you use an international Visa credit card or debit card, payments may fail and your subscription may be suspended."

Not sure whether Turkey and India also got the same news.

    • +2

Just add a backup Mastercard and it will work. Had the same issue with arg tidal and a Mastercard fixed the issue

      • Is it okay to use mastercard from westpac debit card too?

      • Would it be possible to just change the main payment method to a Mastercard?

    • Same here too just come to check.
      What should I do?
      Need to change to India?

    • Got the same email

  • +3

So I got an email today that my Argentinian account payment method was getting disabled.. so I tried moving to turkey.

Problem is, using windscribe, I can't load the youtube premium section. If i go to "https://www.youtube.com/premium", the page wont load. But going to "https://www.youtube.com" works totally fine.

I think google is blocking the windscribe IP from premium section. Is anyone else seeing this?

edit: reconnected a few times and it worked

    • Did you sign up with a Visa to Turkey did you if I may ask.

Going to try to move from Argentina to another country soon ..

      • +2

I used an Australian Visa card with Turkey Premium. No problems.

        • Just signed up for a year to Turkey, surprised it didn't ask me for an address on the card.

    • Came here due to Argentina being no longer viable and had the same issue with Windscribe.
I turned Windscribe off, loaded the /premium page, then turned Windscribe back on and refreshed.

      • I keep getting this

We couldn't verify your country. Please visit the Help Centre for more information.

Or, I either only get A$14.99 or US $11.99

    Legendary post, thank you mate!!!

    Show's over, folks!
"Update your YouTube payment method to avoid service disruption

      Read the op again mate

    • +1

I got the same email, master card might work or just move to Turkey.

    • -1

Ummm I think you commented under the wrong post buddy. Your comment is about Argentina. This post is about Turkey

    • If it helps any of the Argentinian accounts that don't work any more, migrating to Turkey was done successfully via Nord VPN.
Hola, ExpressVPN, windscribe did not work (full price was shown or payment threw an error) but Nord worked eventually.
Important to know: if whatismyip and youtube do not load, turning off threat protection for 5 minutes allowed them to load, that should get you past the payment process!
Good luck and enjoy your ad-free premium account!

    • Thank you to all the other users for Agentina providing their detailed feedback, it really helped me pinpoint what to do!!

  • Thanks OP, same issue with the family membership via Argentina. Your instructions worked perfectly.

  • Had to migrate from Argentina since not using a local credit card, gets you blocked and payment declined
    Let's try Turkey instead

    • +1

On windscribe. Connected to Turkey, keeps giving me USD prices, $11.99 month

      • "We couldn't verify your country. Please visit the Help Centre for more information."

        • No idea why I can't get turkey prices.
I'm getting Turkish ads on the YT. (Words and suggest etc)

          • @Spending2Much: Keep getting either US $11.99
            Or A$14.99

Can't get turkey at all with windscribe

            • +5

@Spending2Much: Had the same issues, but got it working.

              keepsolid - failed
              windscribe - failed
ended up using Hola chome extension…

Went through the steps. Make sure you create and change your payment profile to turkey. Make sure it is connected to turkey when refreshing. Use whatismyipaddress to confirm your in turkey. Got there in the end, but can confirm was able to connect and purchase family sub at the time of writing this post.

              • @Grandpipe: Definitely getting Turkish ads on YT.
And using 'what is my IP address ' 31.210 Turkey
Payment profile is Turkish. Fake address.

So frustrating because Argentina worked easily.

                • @Spending2Much: Keep getting

"We couldn't verify your country. Please visit the Help Centre for more information."

Or A$14.99….on the app, even though I get Turkish ads

                  • @Spending2Much: Not seeing the turkish price at all? which VPN are you using?

I kept getting AUD prices using the 2 i mentioned. Then i tried Hola, which failed first time, but i think i was using Hola wrong and it wasnt enabled in the tab i was using to browse youtube. It came up with a little window at the bottom with browsing timer when it worked and it was also slow to refresh (took a minute for the page to load). If you click on your profile picture, scroll down to location and i had it set to turkey. Not sure if it mattered at the time though.

                    • -1

@Grandpipe: With Argentina, I was able to do it on mobile no issue at all

I've set location to Turkey, changed payment profile to Turkey, getting Turkish ads on YT, see the Turkish 29.99 charge.
                      Confirm Turkish IP address.
BUT….when I click on the get YT Premium via app, it either comes up with A$14.99/US$11.99
                      OR
Says, "we couldn't verify your country etc" when using webpage on Google, wants me to open the YT app.
(Same with Samsung tablet) which then, has the A$14.99 charge.
Opening the webpage says "can't verify country"

Ironically, the old Argentina charge, 289 is still there.
Even though I got cut off for not having a local card.

So annoying with how many ridiculous ads are on a short video, after using Premium for some time now

                      • +1

@Spending2Much: Finally worked after an existential amount of time, using Express VPN.

                        29.99 Turkish

                        • +1

                          @Spending2Much: @Spending2Much

Hey buddy, I’m so sorry I didn’t follow up this thread in the last few days. I would have replied otherwise. Thanks for all your comments and detailing your experience.

Next time please chuck me a PM :)

              • +1

@Grandpipe: Thanks - used Hola and worked first time. I didn't update any payment profiles or anything, literally cancelled Argentina, connected through Hola to Turkey, got the price in Turkey, and added in my credit card details, and it automatically selected my address at Turkey (I couldn't change this).

I was having the same issues with Windscribe, couldn't get a location in Turkey.

  • +2

Changed to Mastercard and it seemed to do the trick for me

    • Looks to have done the job for me now too

  • +1

Using Windscribe made my IP show up at PUNE, MH IN for some reason. But Using Hola worked like a charm! Thanks @I Smell Pennies

  • @Grandpipe Worked perfect with Hola, thank you OzBargin Family

  • @Grandpipe Also saying thanks! Even my premium VPN service did not locate me in turkey correctly! Hola worked perfectly without issue.

  • Thanks @Grandpipe! Hola worked perfectly

(Windscribe and PIA not working at the moment). Windscribe will bring you to India

  • +1

    Can confirm:
    1. PIA - failed
    2. Windscribe Chrome Extension - failed
    3. Hola Chrome Extension- failed
    4. Express VPN - worked immediately and easily

The first 3 all showed the blank page when going to the /premium URL.

    • I had same issue and creating a new browser profile with only one Google account logged in worked for me.

  • Had problems with Argentina payment, as mentioned.

Went onto my PC, used NordVPN connected to Turkey. Went to YouTube Premium site and ensured Turkish $ were sblhowing. Added Turkish payment details. Done within a few minutes.

  • What do you do if you're using Hola and getting this:
"We couldn't verify your country. Please visit the Help Centre for more information."

    • Just went through this. Hola leaves a little counter on your screen, It asks, Did this work? I had to click No about 3 times, and i'm assuming it changed the IP address in the background and then suddenly the YT premium page popped up.
Changed to annual plan, filled in CC details again and paid. Didn't input a Turkish address.

      • You sir (or madam) are a genius!!!!! The hola "no" worked on the third attempt. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • +1

My Argentinian subscription ended because my Visa's payment got declined.

Trying to resubscribe to Turkey now but I cannot get Windscribe to work. I connect to Turkish VPN (1 free option out of the 3) but still get the US$'s when I click on Renew Membership.

Any advice how can I get this to work? TIA

EDIT: All good. Read the comments after posting and I can confirm Hola worked and I'm back to YT Premium. Cheers

    • I'm having the exact same problem with Argentina and looks like there's no way in because condition for subscribing is now Argentina bank.

You got that this prompt and had to move to Turkey?

      • Yes… this is what happened

  • +2

Tried Hola Chrome Extension and it worked first time. :) Thanks AliKay!

Can confirm Windscribe didn't work after trying over several days

    • agree, hola ended up working for me. Had to click that it didnt work for me 3x before it got a good IP.
My paid PIA VPN didn't work, seems they have been black listed.

Windscribe also went around 3x IP addresses, none of them showing as turkey via whatsmyipaddress

  • +1

Hola worked for me also, nice to have a year.

  • Hola no longer working, any other ideas?

    • Try again, on Hola there is a counter where you can click that the site didn't work and it will change IP, do that until it works. I had to do 3x No's before it worked.
      Annual plan now :)

  • Thank you, nord works.

  • Confirmed halo worked for me.

  • I know this is an old thread but I am trying to renew my expired account. They stopped payments even though my card is good. I assume they are starting to cross check location against place of issue maybe.

Whenever I try and run through these I now get "We couldnt verify your country".

If anyone has a work around that would be amazing.

  • Is it me or did the price just change to 79.99/mth for the family membership?

  • +7

Please Note - there seems to be an issue with Turkey servers atm using Windscribe VPN. Server relocates to Prune (India) rather than Istanbul (Turkey), hence everyone is getting USA prices. Not sure when it will be fixed. I suggest using Hola or Urban VPN which works a charm :)

    • +1

Legend! payment method kept declining for Turkey, switching to Urban VPN fixed this!

  • +1

Argentina still works if you update payment method to mastercard e.g 28 degress worked for me

    • Gaaaah I canceled my sub because it wouldn't accept my visa, now it wont go anywhere except my home county. Wish I'd tired a mastercard. Gutted.

  • Tried multiple times with Surfshark, hide.me, hola, windscribe. Only one that worked for me was Urban, first try I might add (might be because I am currently abroad). Hope this helps.

  • +1

    Thank you for the tutorial.

My family subscription through Argentina was paused due to Youtube changes announced about a week prior.

Cancelled and resubscribed through Turkey via NordVPN and it worked like a charm.

  • As others have mentioned already. I had the same issues with 'need to verify your location'.

Note to use private browser tab everytime so there are no cookies and cache files linking you to an Aussie location in the backend!

To do this, is to use a second VPN to Turkey. They want to see you connect to the account using a different IP address within Turkey to prove you're in that country…

I initially tried Hola, it worked as far as getting to the 'can't verify location ' message, logged out and then signed up and connected using Express VPN (paid account) to Turkey, I was then able to pay the YouTube premium in TRS without issues using the same visa card used for my previous Argentina subscription. Success!

Then got in online chat with Express VPN to cancel subscription and claim a full refund for the initial payment (4-7 days max processing)

  • Logged in to say thank you OP!

Was previously on Argentina family plan when my card expired and no longer processed payments..lo and behold couldn't update the card on Arg family plan even with Arg VPN.

Cancelled the membership as OP said.

Turned on my Turkish VPN via the Kaspersky VPN software (got this from my Kaspersky premium version) and added a new family plan with my NAB Visa Debit card nice and easy.

Cheers OP, live long and propser!

  • +1

    Thank you for the tutorial.
Tried Urban VPN Chrome extension and it worked like a charm.

    • Cheers! Urban VPN works for me.

  • I just did the Argentina to Turkey thing via NordVPN of all things! my jaw just about dropped to the floor. Anyway I needed to kill my Citi Bank card and use my CBA debit mastercard with a Turkey address and I got YouTube Premium again for Turkey $. I did try to buy another year of Google One with my Turkey payment method but it was no go, there must be my AU address linked in there somewhere.

  • Couldn't get turkey to work via different vpn's including the ones listed above so flew to Malaysia without issue

  • Tried a few VPNs. couldnt get it to work. Tried a few accounts. All didnt accept cc card. I cant go back to youtube mobile with ads!

  • Couldn't get India or Turkey to work for Family Premium.

Ended up signing up via Ukraine. $6 AUD a month.

  • +3

I just got it working again (switching away from Argentina to Turkey)

Verify location problem: Using Dmetal's tip from above

    • I used UrbanVPN to login to Turkey, had correct currency but signing up would give the the verifiy location problem
    • logged out of UrbanVPN, then used Hola, and then it would let me get to billing but it wouldn't accept my CC

    Billing Issue bypass
    - What worked for me, go here - https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings , delete/close ALL payment profiles. then go back to same URL, it will ask you to set up google pay with a CC - I used my credit card but used a Turkey address https://www.bestrandoms.com/random-address-in-tr?quantity=6

I then went back to the youtube premium sign up page, now when i went to billing it autoloaded my CC as a payment option and I just had to enter the CVV and I was done

I hope this helps someone else !

    • +2

Nice one! @jh084 thanks for the refresher and thanks for the double VPN tip @DMetal
      Switched from Argentina to Turkey.

    • I was having the same credit card not being accepted issue on my desktop. Then I tried adding it on my mobile, everything just magically worked!

  • +1

Like many others, my Argentinian subscription stopped working… but luckily this worked without a hitch, thank you!

  • +4

Worked with using Hola chrome extension.
I bought the annual plan in case same situation happens with Turkey like India and Argentina.
*Note if you're getting "we cannot verify your location" or AUD price, on the bottom of the page, there is a small pop-up from Hola asking is it working, just click "no" and it will automatically switch an IP, and keep switching until turkey price is showing up.

    • +2

Thank you! This method finally worked for me from Argentina to Turkey!

Also things I had to do:

Delete my Argentina payment profile and create a new payment profile Turkey based on OPs instructions,
Also - add my credit card to the payment profile (not explicitly mentioned) - otherwise the after clicking buy, I get an error.

    • +1

      thank you…this works…

  • +1

Anyone tried this with Turkey lately? The price keeps showing as GBP (??) when using Turkey payment profile, location set to Turkey and Turkey VPN (double checked its sending me to Istanbul)

  • +2

Worked easy for me- used Citibank debit card and NordVPN no issues. Just paid for the annual subscription so I don’t have to worry about payment fails later.

  • +1

Worked easily with Hola after failing using X-VPN and getting the "We couldn't verify your country" error. Thanks so much OP!

  • +2

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP and others that have contributed to the thread.

Just purchased a year from Turkey.
Didn't even need a Turkish address either.

Used Hola and switched to Turkey. Finally got Turkey currency showing.
    Chose annual.
Used my Amex. Detected my location as Turkey - no address entered.
    Went through successfully.

  • I'm away on holidays. Don't have access to a computer and am unable to get passed google can't validate my location (before even getting to TKY payments). Has anyone got this working from a mobile (android) perspective?

    • It should work - I did mine on iPhone (web browser I think)

    • Had the same issue on PC in Oz. Successfully got past this issue by using the youtube music site instead. Goto https://music.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your profile (top right of screen). Choose "Paid Memberships" and proceed from there with VPN set to turkey.
